What about the sticker in the windscreen? Or maybe your vehicle was exempt from a CT at the time you bought it. I believe that the rules are changing now though.

Go to a broker in the UK, they should be able to sort out the insurance for you, online companies are not geared up for anything out of the ordinary. You will have to get your car registered in the UK, but that should not be a problem. Did you keep the old headlights? You can keep your French driving licence it is valid until aged 70 or for three years after becoming resident, whichever is the longer period.

Use Tyre, http://www.tyre.tk/ It is now part of the Tom Tom HOME program

Well a quick Google shows this for a start. http://www.caradisiac.com/php/auto_pratique/pr_droits/ct_achat_voiture.php Or here, http://www.utac-otc.com/fr/ctvl/vente.asp#obligation

I disagree, a CT less than 6 months old is a legal requirement unless it's sold to a car dealer/garage, It may not always be done this way, if the buyer and seller agree that the buyer will obtain the new CT before registering the vehicle. However the buyer will always have a good claim for his money back, if he finds any hidden defects if it's done this way.

I think a little pouf will be along soon.

I think Cathy had it about right. Pour éviter une procédure judiciaire longue, je suis disposé à vous donner une transaction amiable de €*** pour solde de tout compte'.

Try a search for Chape autonivelante or chape liquide.

"As far as I know (and I stand to be corrected in this) hunting with a bow and arrow is illegal in the whole of Europe, and this includes shooting fish with a bow and arrow. It is possible to buy hunting equipment though (eg broadhead arrow tips) so I imagine it does go on." Obviously not, because according to the text it was legalised in France in 1995.[:(]

It obviously would depend on age and any health issues, my advice is, to create a new email address with GMail or similar, you can then delete this address after your quotes come back, otherwise you will get spam forever from these online companies.

Change of driving licence - sorry, again

If you live in the Lot et Garonne you will be required to have your foreign licence even an EU one, officially translated into French, this is not necessary in all depts.
This is clearly in total contradiction with current legislation and should be challenged at the first available opportunity. This alone would make me want to move there just to prove them wrong! [:P]
Claire can I take you with me the next time I try to exchange mine[:D] -
The standard documents required for a change of licence are the same whichever departement you live in. Only the local fee may differ - in some cases, it's free. Simplest way is to check your prefecture website or visit the Service-Public portal....[;-)]
If you live in the Lot et Garonne you will be required to have your foreign licence even an EU one, officially translated into French, this is not necessary in all depts. -
The large sacks (Big Bag) are available from some builders merchants, sand and gravel mixed for concrete, ask for (gravier à béton) but the delivery will cost. You can have it delivered in bulk, again for a delivery charge, priced by mileage and weight, it would be better in my opinion to buy a trailer and collect it yourself, even cheaper if you have a local quarry, the trailer will pay for it self over the years and you can get things when you need them.

The connection to the main sewerage pipe can only be made by an authorized company, usually it's the local water company. Mine cost around €1300.

I think that basically, it's a 9 month suspended jail sentence.
Thanks everyone for your replies. Shame I'm not there at the moment to take advantage of the sales. I've not heard of SAV, I'll have to look that one up. Regards.
S.A.V. Service après vent (after sales service). Not a well known phrase in France, buy from a local independent source and you may get some S.A.V.[:D]

No requirement for a COC. You will be able to buy all the bits here to make your own trailer, if it's under 500kg PTAC then you will be OK. I guess in theory you should have a plate made up with the weights. But check out the next cut up van/trailer you find and see if they have a plate. -
All notaires whether English speaking or not, should work within the law and ensure the government receive their entitlement they should not be biased in favour of either the buyer or seller. You can find one HERE
