Having read of the guy who drove through knocking over one rather than be hijacked by a knife wealding robber I wonder if I would do the same ....The Police advice may be to keep doors locked and driving slowly and indicate your intention not to stop ..but ...what would a French court be likely to do if one went under the front wheels ? Clair Posted July 21, 2009 Share Posted July 21, 2009 I have found only two references to this in the news, in the Daily Mail and in the Express.This leads me to believe it is not (yet?) a common occurence.A couple of years ago, some travellers started using a similar technique on one of the main roads to town.They would fake a car breakdown and stand in the middle of the road waving their arms, trying to force oncoming cars to stop. Anyone who stopped would find himself surrounded by a group of menacing-looking blokes who would demand money to let the car pass.As they had picked a bend of the road where there was no mobile signal, the driver and passengers would be unable to call the gendarmes. My father slowed down, realised something was very wrong, then accelerated again and got us out. It was quite a large group of men, and it was very scary indeed. He reported it the next day and the gendarmerie already knew about it.It was obviously not Calais, not immigrants, and not 2009. Not nice, wherever and whenever it happens. Pirating is a terrible business, that rises out of desperation. Going out to kill them is however 1000000000000000000000000000 times worse in my book. I felt sick when I was told by my SIL.it seems those 'cruises' are organised by Russian operators, who also loan weapons and ammunition, and guarantee at least 2 atttacks. And how do you know they have no plan to support themselves; if they shove £200-300K in the Channel Islands plus a nice little autoentrepreneur job, plus a pension, they are doing ok.They are however releasing existing resources and not arriving empty handed as are many of these (mainly) young men. They are illegal immigrants in France who are attempting to enter another country illegally and now beginning to commit serious crimes. It is the job of the French to pick 'em up, feed 'em and bung 'em back where they came from. Even if they remove their fingerprints, footprints will do!!Immigration has to be controlled.
