Calais immigrants stop/rob Brits

Recommended Posts

Having read of the immigrants forming a human road block on the aproach road to the port to stop and rob returning British tourists . Having read of the guy who drove through knocking over one rather than be hijacked by a knife wealding robber I wonder if I would do the same ....The Police advice may be to keep doors locked and driving slowly and indicate your intention not to stop ..but ...what would a French court be likely to do if one went under the front wheels ?

I have found only two references to this in the news, in the Daily Mail and in the Express.

This leads me to believe it is not (yet?) a common occurence.

A couple of years ago, some travellers started using a similar technique on one of the main roads to town.

They would fake a car breakdown and stand in the middle of the road waving their arms, trying to force oncoming cars to stop.

Anyone who stopped would find himself surrounded by a group of menacing-looking blokes who would demand money to let the car pass.

As they had picked a bend of the road where there was no mobile signal, the driver and passengers would be unable to call the gendarmes.

Someone did make a note of the car registration and they were stopped soon afterwards.

About 40 years ago (or was it even more?), this very thing happened to me while I was a teenager travelling with my parents,  driving in the hills just north of Marseille - it was the middle of the night too. My father slowed down, realised something was very wrong, then accelerated again and got us out. It was quite a large group of men, and it was very scary indeed. He reported it the next day and the gendarmerie already knew about it.

It was obviously not Calais, not immigrants, and not 2009. Not nice, wherever and whenever it happens.

in Marseille in the 60s it was very probably immigrants - just different ones.

I don't think desperation is an excuse, but perhaps -  an explanation.

I heard last week that men hunting trips are illegally organised to take groups by boat to Somalia, lie in wait until attacked- then shoot. Pirating is a terrible business, that rises out of desperation. Going out to kill them is however 1000000000000000000000000000 times worse in my book. I felt sick when I was told by my SIL.

it seems those 'cruises' are organised by Russian operators, who also loan weapons and ammunition, and guarantee at least 2 atttacks. It might solve the pirate problem - but it is sick, if true.

That's exactly my feeling..

Well, if they are that desperate, perhaps they should apply for asylum in France or any other EU country they passed through on their way to Calais.

But unfortunately they have all seen and believed the rubbish published by the rightist UK press about the imaginary free handouts they will get if they get across the Channel. Ironic really.

"chancers who seek economic betterment"

Isn't that why people sell houses in the UK at vast prices, and buy in France with no plan to sustain themselves except the idea it will be 'mortgage-free'

I'm sure I don't need to search for the threads..

Well done Normie, thought you might be watching!!

Market prices Norman, market prices. And how do you know they have no plan to support themselves; if they shove £200-300K in the Channel Islands plus a nice little autoentrepreneur job, plus a pension, they are doing ok.

They are however releasing existing resources and not arriving empty handed as are many of these (mainly) young men. They are illegal immigrants in France who are attempting to enter another country illegally and now beginning to commit serious crimes. It is the job of the French to pick 'em up, feed 'em and bung 'em back where they came from. Even if they remove their fingerprints, footprints will do!!

Immigration has to be controlled.

Immigration has to be controlled - good luck

The best form of control is no control - you need to tackle the demand not the supply. Think how successful the control of drugs, pornography …… and anything else has ever been.

What is required is correct government policies. Free housing/support should not be available period.

The handouts are not imaginary , just this week a new program has started "How the other half live" . A single mum from Zimbabwe living in a London flat with 3 kids gets £240 a week and some rich English family is giving her cheques to pay off her debts.

You can guess what the letters  to Zimbabwe will be telling the rest of the folks back home to do "get over here its really great"

When wars, oppression, myths of a European eldorado and terrible living conditions are not so widespread, their numbers will decrease............................................................................................................................................................

Although this thread is about British people being robbed, it might put it in context to know that Moroccans returning via Spain with presents for their family are often robbed, as are sometimes Eastern Europeans returning to places such as Bulgaria or Romania, after working for a season.

The point is if Mr Griffin thinks it it ok to sink boats full of immigrants at sea, how do you think he would deal with immigrants at Calais?

Fairly? Humanely? Legally?

I certainly don't.

The title of this thread is  " Calais immigrants stop/rob Brits". What has sinking boats to do with this ????

As to how he would deal with them, positively would I guess be a good word to use. Do you think it is OK for them ( immigrants) to act in this way at Calais then????

Puzzled,

Perhaps, as you seem so keen to defend those people who "rob the Brits at Calais", and  seem to value them so highly, perhaps you could accommodate a few in your property in France. I am sure the Great British public would indeed be most grateful to you.

I would see this as a win win situation, you would be living with the people you love, they would have a nice place to live, and us in the UK, well you don't have to be a rocket scientist to guess the next line in this sentence. [;-)]

It is forbidden to accomodate them in France.

Anyway, what they want is THE UK, not France.

They know here it is really difficult to get papers, a job, benefits, and they ve been told your country was a real eldorado..

Who s to blame ?

[/quote]

I guess the current UK government is to blame. Perhaps the reasons you list above as to why they cannot stay in France is something that attracts people from the UK to France.
