But France is very much the same or wants to be the same

I would like you to direct me to reports in the French press where the government is intending to remove the rights, previously granted, to an immigrant married to a French Citizen by increasing the family income requirement to above the mean national wage.

We can start here…

https://www.vie-publique.fr/loi/287993-projet-de-loi-immigration-integration-asile-2023

That is not directed at British folk on a gîte wannabe. But it applies to them.

The French government is also looking to restrict immigration from certain countries.

The number of French visas issued for Algeria will be reduced by 50 percent

The French government’s plan was announced on Tuesday in response to North African governments’ refusal to take back undocumented migrants sent home by French authorities.

“We will reduce the number of visas very significantly,” Interior Minister Gerald Darmanin said in Paris on Wednesday.

The number of visas issued for Algeria and Morocco will be reduced by 50 percent, while visas granted for Tunisian nationals will be reduced by two thirds, he added.

The minister said the step was taken because the three countries refused to take back some of their own nationals, who were expelled from France because they had committed crimes, had become “radicalised” or had no residence permit.

And that is the point.

Those of us who have got mixed up in this shît are left in limbo.

We pay our taxes, pay our way, don’t break the law, live out our lives peacefully and integrate in society.

We get left out in the cold.

We can’t move anywhere.

It makes me soo mad.

I have read both the above articles and neither cover the scenario I have given. The partner of a French National, living legally in the country, applying for a renewal of their visa and having it refused for no other reason than that the family income isn't the same or above that of the top 25% of the country.

And the intention for that partner to then be deported.

You've said in the past ALBF that you don't have French Nationality. I wonder, by what right, you are allowed to live in the country.

That is a very good point…but in the good old days of the EU you did not need French nationality. But when I moved in the 90’s…you did need to have a CDS to exist. Which were a longer bigger in size Norman…lol. That was fair enough.

I don’t want or need French nationality. I’m not French, will never be and we are all happy to coexist on that level. I have a CdS. If I break the law then withdraw it and send me packing. I’m happy with that.

How do the thousands of French exist in the UK ? They all don’t have British nationality.

Same with me but what if, when you came to renew it, they said you don't earn enough ( not that you're claiming any state aid just that your salary isn't good enough for them )?  And because of that you had to leave. You haven't broken the law, you've paid your taxes, your children are French and ( perhaps ) you are the main provider.

How would you feel?

If they were there before Brexit they would have applied to remain under the EU Settlement scheme. Post that it'll be one of the various visa schemes. If you've married a UK citizen or someone who has indefinite leave to remain the new income limits apply.

I am certain that having applied for, and been approved, for the issue of a CDS, having declared your income when you origially applied for it, there is no requirement to establish your income level upon the occasion of your CDS renewal.

In other words, having been issued with a CDS you are entitled to renew it for the rest of your life.

That's true for most CdS but we were talking about the situation in the UK.

I remember a year or so back meeting a couple on the BF boat who told me they got their CdS in France by pretending they had a main residence….which was actually their mates gite in Brittany. They provided other documentation to support their application such as a French mobile contract they took out at said residence.

They do not live in France…pay tax in France just like going to France for a jolly at French tax payers expense…..with their CDS in hand.

Moreover, one of them was a recently elected politician in the green party in the UK.

Sometimes you can’t make life up.

That is a true story folks.

Anyway, I can’t find out how an French anglo family can ‘retire’ to the UK. I have been through all the websites but can’t find an answer.

It's all a bit fluid at the moment but there is a way where you can get a spousal visa by having savings rather than income. There are conditions on how long you need to keep the money sitting in a bank account and it's not cheap. I think the current mininum is 67,000. That no doubt will go up as well.

Have you thought of moving to Ireland?

We have had two fabulous holidays in Ireland recently.  Really nice people, friendly, fun and welcoming to talk to.  Did the Wild Atlantic Way and it lived up to all its hype road wise (deadly but in a good way as a local told us) and visually.

The only down side, like the equally glorious west coast of Scotland, is the weather.  Wet.

No…TBH. Northern Ireland maybe.

I don’t want to live again in a country/place where I don’t belong.

So in my case (if I won the Loto)…I would seriously consider London.

That is where I am from originally and have always felt at home there.

South Kensington is owned by the French so OH would be happy.

BTW….in a forum not so far far away in the galaxy….they have stolen this thread.

Think up some of your own threads muppets. Lol.

Why not the UK ? There is nothing wrong with the UK ? It is a fantastic country.

Why do peeps who have moved to France don’t want to live in the UK ? Or spend their time on forums (not you or anyone else on this forum btw) criticizing the UK.

I am betting most would choose to live in the UK rather than most places in France. Why is that me wonders ? These people live in France but never ventured out of their rural village. That is NOT reality France. They know nothing about France but for them France is better than the UK. What they are saying is their bubble in France is better than would they could achieve in the UK. It is nothing to with France as a country. But that bubble won’t last forever.

I can live anywhere in France. Rural, suburban, estate, city and have done. It does not bother me. These muppets couldn’t.

That is my rant over for the day…lol.

I'm glad you excluded me from the whingers 😉.  Um, isn't it obvious why, if you've taken the plunge and left UK, then unless you're hijacked by the pull of family or the need for comfort-zone health care in old age, you wouldn't want to go back? This is just my personal opinion, obviously, but it's a complete ****hole with an even bigger bunch of crooks running it than France has. Life here, again in my opinion (which can never be the same as yours because our situations are so different), is better than it would be there. I feel at home here. Sorry, but that can happen.

As for forums, the best laugh I've had today is reading someone's claim that France is a Socialist country . She lives here..........Still chuckling over that one......

I’m glad I am still box office on forums.😀

Del boy used to call Rodney a muppet.

Muppet is an affectionate London term. I call me kids muppets all the time.

Look, I can post pictures. The two at the front remind me of……ummmm
