Firstly renewed thanks for all the added advice and suggestions.

crabtree, I have PM'd you and I am already with Sosh but I only get about 2GO at the moment and I pay the same amount as some of the other sites you provided.

Lehaut, that is new info to me....thanks!  Didn't realise that if you used "autre vendeurs" on Amazon, provided it is sent by Amazon, you got the same benefits for returns.

So is it free returns as well as returns with virtually no conditions attached?

Be careful with the other sellers on Amazon, they can be difficult with returns and refunds. They do not come under the same conditions as Amazon themselves, especially if they are French (we know how the French are so good at customer service). I know from personal experience with other sellers and I only buy from them is there really is no other option.

Betise, I have just read your posts, thank you.  That does look an excellent site and I like the fact that they specialise in these types of electronic products.

I don't want to spend a bundle of money on a phone because I am unsure whether I'd like it!!

We have experience with Amazon regarding refunds for goods sold by Amazon supplied by third party sellers.

Long story short, we bought a high end Dell laptop from Amazon and had a long trail of woe with it including remote operation/diagnostics by Dell, reprogramming, 2 home visits from Dell engineers replacing hardware etc etc. During one interaction with Dell we found out that the device was on their records as a refurb, but it was advertised by Amazon as new.

(Always keep a screenshot of the amazon webpage that advertised it & where you bought it from)

Within less than a week we had a full refund of the cost - around £500 and they didn't want it back.

The absurd thing was by that time the laptop was behaving itself and we carried on using it for 3-4 years after that!

Great story, Harnser!😄  Goes to show that nowadays, you could never be too careful!

Gone are the days when you could ask to "speak to the butcher and not the block".  Apparently, these days, you fill in a form on line and your request is answered by a chatbot or a humanoid who is about as sensitive and responsive as a chatbot!

Eg no bank manager to speak to, no hotel manager on site, no one to whom the buck can be passed.  We don't need AI, we need REAL intelligence but, where is it to be found?

  • 9 months later...

At last, I have grasped the nettle and actually bought a Samsung Galaxy A25.  Have been playing about with it today and find I keep typing in the wrong letters.

Now I remember why I didn't want one of these phones.  I just KNEW I'd have problems with the keyboard.  Still, am forcing myself through the "getting to know you" process.  At least I am trying my best to get to know the phone but I am not sure how hard, if at all, it is trying to get to know me.

The reason I am posting this is to alert fittersmate to get in touch with me if she wants to know more.  I shall send you a message fittersmate, if you are still about and have the same details.

Menthe,

I presume you can change keyboards (ie French or English, or something else) I find that helps .. also if you turn the phone on its side, the letters get larger!!  At least they do on mine!  Good luck.

No, don't want to change keyboards.  It's just that these on-screen keyboards do me no favours as my clumsy fingers keep tapping the wrong key.  I could touch-type and OH says that's my problem right there and that I just need to type with one finger at a time.

Yes, everything does get larger if you put the phone on its side or use two fingers to stretch the text.

Anyway, I chose a pretty blue phone and my battery has died on my latest wrist watch so I tell OH I have bought the phone so that I could tell the time.  A lot easier than trying to change the battery on the watch!

I have that problem too, Menthe, as I can touch type too .. yes,you need to learn to type with one finger only, sadly!

If I may suggest another approach.  Try finding the "microphone" on your keyboard.  On my android phone keyboard it is  above the comma.   Press that when you are composing an email or SMS and speak slowly and clearly into the phone.  The words will appear in the document.  The same when using google search, tap the microphone on the right of the search bar and pose your question.

Mine voice input spells much better than my finger inputs!

Had no idea Lehaut.  I'll certainly give it a try.  I've just looked at Whatsapp and they have the same option.  Never noticed any of this before.  My age showing..

Yes, being an Apple person, I have that on my devices too, and I find it very  useful, even though I can touch type within reason, though it doesn't seem to understand French words, but then I'm working in English .. so if I changed it to French maybe it would be OK then.  Certainly worth investigating ..
