  1. At our other house in the Turks and Caicos Islands we often get mail from Europe thats gone via Turkey.
  2. I think you are a little misinformed about the slave trade.
  3. It's true and I've got the bruises to prove it.. We spent the day at the beach ( not normal for us in August). and at least 15+ women hit on me, some very sexy, given I'm mid 30's, is this normal behaviour, please say no. My wife kicking me is getting rather painful. (maybe i need to go to the beach on my own!!!!!)((( Very large Divorse Settlement Springs to Mind)))))) lol . I never knew French women where so open minded. O' to be young free and single.
  4. 'duty free' It's just one of those scams the ferry/chunnel run. If you want to save some money on the way home head up to Belgium or better Lux. Down south we get ours from Spain, which is far cheaper than France.
  5. Get an 80cm dish and phone the local guy who does canal+ installs. HE WILL KNOW WHAT TO DO.
  6. We spend a couple of months each winter at our house on Providenciales. In a few years when we sell up in France will will move there full time and than buy a holiday home more equatorial, Indian or Pacific Ocean.
  7. The large supermarkers, Giant, Carrefour etc have loads of them in the there computer sections.
  8. I seem to remember a friend telling me there was a Jewish deli in Montpellier.
  9. Our's works fine in our stone house but works even better outside. We get about 25m radius from the base station. I think a lot of it comes down to brand and price. Buy cheap, get cheap.
  10. TU I think i read it was about 85% of the population. Being able to afford to return to the U.K. Well for us it would not be an issue, but i think a lot of people will find it hard. They will have sold there U.K. payed of the motrgage, car, credits cards etc. Then purchased with cash in France. A lot of people would be/ have been better of getting a second mortgage and then renting out there U.K. house long term or buying a small place in the U.K. and a small place in France. I know a couple who moved from there house in Croydon ( 3 bed semi) and now have all there cash tied up in a 120h of land and a massive house in need of major restauration. A trap a lot of Brits fall into.
  11. "Well I think that example is a little extreme. I am sure there are priests who will conduct a wedding that isn't too overloaded with religion and maybe that would do instead. Perhaps a service similar to a C of E blessing." What kind of priest would that be?? A de-frocked one maybe?
  12. Not to many moons ago i was subject to a not disimular scam. For the period of about 3 weeks i was getting 4000 unique page views per day more than normal. I only check such things once a week or so. I thought WOW, 30,000+ pages views in a week, ummm seems rather odd that they are only to the home page, and there is no increase in site income from ad's. Not long after this i got an e-mail from some company called direct hits or such like, saying they could not only substain the new unique page views but increase them to at least 10,000+ new unique page views per day......ALL FOR A VERY SMALL FEE OF $30 PER MONTH. After i told them to go F@!K OFF I'm now back to 1,200 unique page views per day on average.
  13. It looks like they got you down has a mark and are trying to get you to buy all variations of your domain, not quite cyder sqatting, more like cyber idenity theft. You should buy ( if pos) panomidi.net/org etc and sell it to them.
  14. We use the mother-in-laws when she visits. There are loads of bays in towns, and the police are very good about them. One market days we would pull up next to a copper and show him the badge. They would either stop the traffic behind us ,so the mother-in-law could get out, or let us double park.
  15. It always seems to me that PD is on 70 kph roads. If i see a car that may just drive out i flash my lights in a very rapid fashion, to let them know i will give no quarter, which is far safer than being hit up the rear, which I witnessed not long ago. a renault fly's out from the right ( very minor road) and the saloon car on the main road had to break VERY hard, it was a shame the car following did not break in the same fashion. I understand that the PD is a very major cause of accidents in towns and also counts for a lot of deaths of pedestrtians, driver looking left and turning right at speed.
  16. I've i long list of translation boo boos from our wanderings. A good one was 'Live Chicken in boiling water' at a restaurant in Toamasina/Tamatave in Madagascar. It was meant to be chicken stew, made with fresh chicken ( opp, the tin stuff which is 'FOUL'). The best are always the clas'sic' Britist dishes. English Breakfast. Ground up bits of meat with chips and egg. Malawi Fish and Chips. Frieid poatos and fish in soggy flower...Galle, Sri Lanka
  17. I've started to get the odd one or 2 in French now. I must admit i rather like these scams, they are rather Monty Python in nature and hearing about people who have been taken in by them, 'one born every second'. Greed seems to get the better of a lot of people. If they take part in these scams they deserve to lose all there money.
  18. Keep the romance going and visit Milan, clothes, food, wine. Always seems to work for me. :-)
  19. There is a very high crime rate on the Coted'Azur. Lot's of houses owned by second homers are targeted, plus there cars.
  20. The thing you need to remember is the cost of living in Francce is equal to that of the U.K. It's just adding up all the costs and not looking at the cheap things. Domectic bills are far higher, no road tax but then there are tolls ( we spend at least 300€ a year) on the motorway. Water can be very expensive depending on your location/supplier. Health cost can be high. Insurance 50€ ( a good package) a month and this will not cover illnesses you already have if moving here. If you plan to work, income tax is very high. Even for low wage earners.
  21. I use a Mac so not 100% sure for PC but you should have a options menu/systems menu where you can set screen res, and other defaults. This menu should also show options for mouse and keyboard and you can then set the mouse up. i.e scroll, cursor speed and functions. You should be able to cusmtomise it for differnt applications.
  22. I think to main thing stopping 7 shopping days per weeks is the fact that there still are a lot of small and medium sized businesses that are family owned, unlike on 99% of U.K. high streets. There is little reason for the chains stores to open if only 30-50% of the high street is open.
  23. Here's the tourist offcie site for Ceret http://www.ot-ceret.fr/ and i've got photos of Ceret and surrounding towns on my site.
  24. He wants proof of income, so just show him your last year of so's bank statements.
  25. The is a serieis of fictional novels by dennis wheatly(?) about a british spy in revolutionary france and onwards. There was also a novel out in penguin classics by a French author about the revolution but it slips my mind. oh and lets not forget Dumas.
