After a ten year gap I have started watching TV again and am horrified at the generally unwatchable trash that is being pumped out. Am I missing something or has that wonderful medium sunk so low? Personally I only watch news and local programmes, the main TF1 is showing things we saw in the 70's and 80's in the UK and the dubbing over is attrocious. YCCMB Posted February 13, 2006 Share Posted February 13, 2006 ...could be worse - I was stuck in a hotel in Rome last week, with the choice of Italian TV, (even though my Italian's very limited, I can generally recognise c**p even with only a tenuous grip of the language) F2 or CNN. In the end I read 2 books in 3 evenings, and am still trying to work out why the story of the French woman with the transplanted face was the lead story on CNN for THREE days!!!!!!!!!!!!!! F2 was undoubtedly the lesser of all the evils, although that's not saying much. Cat Posted February 14, 2006 Share Posted February 14, 2006 I agree with Opalienne, Arte/France 5 often have the most watchable programmes, only last night they screened the film Bloody Sunday, which my french OH found very enlightening. He said that he, and many other french friends, had never really understood the troubles in Northern Ireland. I had to admit that, even though I might know the basic history of the problems, I didn't really understand the violence either.Other than the odd decent film, I always watch the local news on France 3, then turn over at 8 for the TF1 news. I like the documentaries, but loathe the reality shows and dubbed American shows from the 70s, 80s and 90s.I can't claim that all my viewing is "high-brow" though, as I'm also a total sucker for A Prendre ou à, Laisser, it blows poor old Noel and his UK version right out of the water [:)] Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Very sad about that because it was easily the best. I watch the news and the weather in the evening, and sometimes Thalassa, which is always beautiful and informative. I'll also watch any French film after 8.50, the odd documentary, and very occasionally Sous le Soleil which is a soap set in/near Cannes; all beautiful pouting glamourous career women in very high heels and very short skirts. It's normally on at approx. 4.45 in the afternoon but seems to be off for the olympics at the moment. I agree with the other posts about the poor quality of programmes but also like Thalassa. I watch the newsbecause I feel I ought to, some of the documentry stuff (Envoy Spécialeis usually pretty good) and the odd one-off drama. I quite like [:$]some of the police dramas, especially Soeur Therese.com that one withthe nun who used to be a cop and keeps getting dragged back into theline of duty to help her somewhat dim ex husband do his job. It was onagain last night. It is complete pants. My children sneak in and watch"à prendre ou à laisser" when they can get away with it, but they don'tactually grasp what it is all about.
