  1. Google Shiply We have just used them and they were excellent and really cheap.
  2. Maybe they wanted to read it before passing it on to you.
  3. We recently went into our local agents to pay our car insurance which was due for renewal the following week. I happened to mention that I thought it was very expensive, having gone up by about 50 euros since last year (when I also thought it was very expensive for such a titchy little car and two old fogies who have never had an accident in the last 40 years). The girl in the office said "leave it with me over the weekend. come in on Tuesday (day before renewal date). Bingo - she came up with a different policy, same cover exactly, 70 euros cheaper. Her words were (but in French) "That company wouldn't reduce the amount demanded so I cancelled the policy and took one out with a different company" Tout est possible I suppose. And there was me thinking I was stuck with the old one. Just lucky I suppose.
  4. I think American has to be your mother tongue but anyone can have a go. I plumped for labelled but was told it was wrong. Checked and found out that either one "l" or two is correct - but not in America apparently.
  5. At the risk of being boring, the answer to the original question is - until 2nd August
  6. "obese, foul-mouthed character" Can you just clarify please? Did you mean Rooney or Fergie?
  7. But, Betty, I always thought you WERE Peruvian. I know photos can be misleading.
  8. Thanks for that. Beautifully explained in few words. Even I understand it - I think.
  9. I have just had a nasty bite or cyst - or some unidentified horrid object that was very inflamed anyway - cut open and cleaned out. I now have to visit the nurse at our doctor's surgery every 48 hours for dressings/wick to be changed until it is deemed safe and can be left to close up. Any idea what each charge is likely to be for visiting the nurse at her own little room? I thought the initial treatment by my doctor was very reasonable (26.60) as it included spray anaesthetic, injected anaesthetic and use of scalpel!
  10. Are you allowed to say Poms, Nick? pc and all that.
  11. We changed over to French licences recently as our English ones were actually out of date! It was very straightforward. All we provided were our old licence and two bits of proof of living here (elec and phone bill) along with two photos (we found them in a drawer and they were at least 4 years old!) No tax stuff at all was asked for. We filled in the form at the local Mairie. Three weeks later we had a note shoved in our letterbox to say that the licences were ready. No charge. Big smiles all round. We couldn't believe our luck.
  12. Who do you bank with then, Dog? Is there a better way?
  13. This makes me wonder about something. We moved permanently to France before we were of pensionable age and so are not eligible for the Winter Fuel Allowance (from UK) Are we eligible for some winter fuel payment from France? Actually, we have been thinking of putting the heating on today - that tramontagne is blowing like billy-o and it is freezing here.
  14. A bit of useless information. I just found out today that the Spanish for username is "Nick" Thought I'd share it.
  15. I had a book delivery which did not turn up. I wrote to Amazon and they refunded my money. I think they said you are allowed three refunds. Mind you, nobody ever claimed to have delivered it or had it signed for. Let us know what happens please.
  16. What about the Woodywoodpecker song. (I was reading your post in wildlife and nature)
  17. Yes - just desserts. Well, not quite. They shouldn't have been there in the first place.
  18. That's a coincidence - there was a bit on (UK)tv this morning about moles and the problems they cause. I didn't pay an awful lot of attention at the time but do remember them saying that the mole population is now so great that there is one mole for every human! Mole catchers are doing great business apparently.
  19. Blimey - 2.5euros for a baguette!!!! Which part of France do you live in for heaven's sake? Must avoid it. We are right near the Med in 66 and our boulangerie only charges 70 cents, even to holidaymakers!
  20. Try Shiply They do part loads - they have just taken mine - and can be VERY competitive, especially if you are a bit flexible over dates.
  21. When our 3 children were little we always drove all the way down through France to our place in France (in a 2CV!) We thought of it as a great adventure. We invariably found that restaurants didn't mind at all serving three set menus and giving us 5 plates. We found that a good idea was to go for the upmarket menu with 4 courses so that there was a good variety of food on offer and we would let the kids have first choice. I still beam when I remember, at the end of one of our family feasts, a French couple at the next table made a point of complimenting us on the excellent behaviour and table manners of our children! (They would have been 3,6 and 8 at the time) Little did they know what horrors they could be when they weren't being fed!
  22. What a true gentleman you are, Chancer. So refreshing to see someone ajolopise!
