  1. Access is will handle that sort of number, but it is a fairly primative db only for small scale use, for large stuff something a bit beefier is needed. S
  2. That is so true I1, I see this all the time when IT drives the direction of support and not the Business. S
  3. I don't want to dampen your sprits further Dick, but to meet GSI (Government Secure Intranet) standards, bluetooth connections are not allowed on networked devices (I know it's crazy, but that's how OGC want it).  If your kit is part of GSI, you will be breaching GSI rules and your network people will be displeased. Regards Simon
  4. Hi Dick Smith, You are right of course, having 2 Jags is OK; having 2 jags while wanting everybody else to get out of their car and take the train/bus/walk/cycle is not.  Why does ODPM have an enormous car park under Eland house? Regards Simon
  5. Nice place Cuba, I must visit sometime... If there's evidence bring them to trial, if there is not then that's tough.  We can't just lock people up for no justifiable reason, this living in fear cr&p is a con.  An afraid public cling to a strong government, both Bush and Blair know this, don't fall for it. S
  6. I don't care about his love affair; I don't care about the love child; I don't care about his blindness or struggle to the top. As the Home Sec I do care that he didn't know the rules on official rail tickets and government cars; I do care that 1 or 2 visa applications were "a bit quicker"; I do care that people are being held indefinately without trial (3 cheers for the law lords; didn't the French Gov get a kicking under the same human rights legislation over holding eta suspects) I'm very glad he's gone. S
  7. Most reputable firms will do the required paperwork for you. S
  8. You can check your link here http://www.numion.com/ Despite upgrading to 2mbps, you should remember that contention is likely to have a big impact on the speed of your link.  I'm not sure but I guess that France is the same as the UK and that standard contention is 40:1.  Contention is where the connection is shared between links at the telephone exchange.  i.e. up to 40 other people could be sharing your 2mb link.   Simon
  9. Ok, so I accept that it is part of the UK culture (ah if only we had some...), but it is a question of depth.  I watched Mastermind because it was a serious quiz, and I don't accept that football, pop trivia, and the latest movies have a place in that.  Surely there are enough fora for those nonacademic subjects elsewhere.  What's left otherwise, University Challenge, and, well, that's about it actually.  As for snooty, not the word I would choose, but my question is why not have an intellectual quiz, or are we all too thick?  I for one just want to watch something that I feel exercises my brain once in a while. I really feel that the lower scores are to do with the quiz no longer being the challenge it was and therefore attracting those only capable of high scores in their petty specialist area.  I remember the girl who took the Harry Potter movies (the then 2 movies mind you not even the books!), scored very badly on the general knowledge. We should be raising our game as a nation not playing to the populist, soap and reality TV watching masses all the time.  What was it that TB said, education, education, education... S
  10. Is it just me, or is Mastermind more about who can choose the most trivial specialist subject.  Answering questions on football, or from the last series "the Happy Potter movies" is frankly laughable.  It's clearly not just the UK's exams that have been dumbed down...   S
  11. In the beginning, God created the earth and rested. Then God created Man and rested. Then God created Woman. Since then, neither God nor Man has rested. S
  12. I see that ADSL is finally available to the village , and to spare me searching through the websites looking for a deal, can someone help me by suggesting some ISP's that will give me a cheap, and I mean cheap, connection.  Preferably under €20/month, I'm not too worried by the speed, anything over the 56kb will be a bonus, (8mb would be nice...dream on!), and I'd like a free fixed IP address too.  I have all the kit, just need the service. Simon
  13. If you fancy a bit of a drive you can't beat the Centenaire in Les Eyzies de Tayac. Simon
  14. Yes, BN is best used to clean the sink. S
  15. I'm very fond of the LeGrand Mosaic range of sockets as they seem better constructed than most of the French items, and you can have all sort of different connectors in the same double/triple point eg 2 power and a TV/telephone/rj45 etc.   I used to get then at Brico, but the supply is inconsistent at best.  Is there an online retailer? Simon
  16. These arty types like to suffer!   Simon
  17. Alcazar, oh dear!  Have you thought of switching to a different supplier for support? S
  18. For a few quid you can buy a qwerty keyboard and plug that in.   S
  19. Basically, the cost of an equivilent car in france is hugely inflated, the cost of swapping to the carte gris including changing the headlights still worked out at an huge saving.  As a bonus the servicing costs, at the main dealer, are a fraction of the UK cost too. Simon
  20. Quite often local craftsmen are the best and cheapest, ask your neighbours who is in your area.   Simon
  21. Does it matter even if she is a witch!  Religion is a personal choice. Simon
  22. If memory serves me correctly, CLIP/R can be available on French ISDN, but is a supplementary service.  You may find your provider doesn't offer the service at all or you have to pay extra.  Don't take this as gospel as it's a long time since I looked at this. Simon
  23. Customs really annoy me, why people legally buying stuff within the EU having paid the TVA/VAT at the store, transported it at their own expense to their own homes or businesses should theorectically give Gordon Brown a cut just for crossing the channel is taking the mickey.   S
  24. You know what they say of bad workmen... I have French bottom burning ovens both in France and the UK, no problems here.   Simon
  25. "Bland stuff like Bath buns, Bath Oliver biscuits..." So what's wrong with Bath Buns?   Outraged of Bath.
