  1. Well you nostalgic bunch of readers-what is the longest time you have saved  to buy a dream? i remember when i was 16 wanting a byke ----but a new one. salaries were pathetic in newcasle  in 1953  and i was at home ,on board and saved for 4 years before i had the third deposit necessary for credit. youngsters dont know there born now. i bought a triumph 21 350 twin and by the time i paid off what i owed in 2 years found i was offered a job abroard and my girlfriend wanted to come. yes you guessed it sold byke for peanuts and bought things for the house!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! are there still any of these bykes still around? back end looked like a scooter or inverted bath. at my age maybe a bath-chair would be more suitable according to my wife.   goodbye memory lane.
  2. I WOULD ASK TAX OFFICE SINCE THEY GIVE YOU A REBATE OF YOUR TAX. IN 2001 -2002 IT WAS POSSIBLE TO CLAIM FOR INSULATION AND DOUBLE GLAZING . I HAD DOUBLE GLAZING INSTALLED AND RECEIVED REDUCTION  IN TAX AS I ELECTED TO BE TAXED IN FRANCE AS I AM RETIRED  AND FOUND IT SLIGHTLY MORE BENEFICIAL TO ME. I BELIEVE TOILETS/BATHROOMS COULD NOT BE GIVEN A GRANT UNLESS YOU OWNED A BLOCK OF PROPERTIES TO RENT.
  3. put in some lttuce seeds and you will have stacks in a few weeks. french beans also will germinate we live in haute vienne. buy a book or viit garden centre and they may have some leaflets on what is ok now.
  4. check chlorine level and if correct try a coaggulent which will stick the very small particles together and make it possible for the filter to remove.the fine particles are start of algae most likely and due to insufficient chlorine and with cover on more prone to occur. if still problem buy stonger chemical  to kill off stubborn algae and keep pump on 24 hours a day especially when pool temperature above 25 centigradebut only after speaking to your pool installer as different pools can need diffrent additives.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ---- ---------------------------------------------------------------------- let me know how you get on
  5. you should ask pool installer as it can be different.i use 4000mg/litre=4g/litre=4,ooog/1000litres=4kilos. therefore for 75000litres use 75000divided by 1000=75x4kilos=300kilos.or12 bags 25kilos. you need to check salinity every 2-3 months and top up salt maybe 1 bag each time.
  6. at charles de gaule i use n104 which is like m25 going round london as far as distance is concerned but has less traffis is dual carriage way and links up with a10 to orleans. have used it 4 years and never a delay and it is getting better all the time.adds a 30 +KMS. to direct route .

    Sheep Wool

i once used wool as a mulch but beware as if you cut the grass and some gets onto the cutters then you can get the belt slipping badly and a chance of burning it.
  8. what is diference between chlorinated pool and one using a chlorinater?
  9. a  friend of mine (english) may be able to help you .please send me a tel. contact  and i will pass  info. on as they are not on this forum.
  10. probably the best thing sky ever did was to stop viewing reception of commercial t.v. stations-their is so much c*** on and repeats a return to reading or doing something more usefull with your time could pay dividends.,even get some jobs done which are on long list outstanding.
  11. what logistic problem-?????????????????? surely if you buy a giraffe just pay for wrapping service and home delivery-surely the americans say they can do anything ----well thats what they say --so why not put them to the test. if they can transport tanks etc. by air what's a little giraffe problem.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  14. if water for swimming in does nitrate level matter.it  is an expensive fill  -you are not swallowing it all the time.just worth checking with analyst and pool experts. i filled mine from a natural souce and never tested it although it is probably same as my well which is drinkable at last analysis.
  15. i have a hydrolastic suspension cutter which raises it self if you start cutting too low.i did have damage to cutter but this was due to imbedded branch in ground. another trick is to cut half height required on first cut then go over area with cutter dropped -at least you might find rocks or recently fallen branches.etc.before the main cut
  16. are you not allowed to use your well water when town piped supplies are banned? if so you best invest in some watter  barrels and collect off roof. i use a plug in my pool outlet overflow to prevent unnecessary waste due to overflow when people jump in or swimm very fast .-it is quite a saver then when it rains remove the plug,so level not going too high.
  17. my wife has broke her ankle in 2 places and i am now chef, cleaner, gardener ,dods body,chaufeur....... need i go on.i now appreciate what my wife has done in the past. i think she wished i had been on a cookery course. bloody sandwiches ,soup. their are no carry -outs.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! if she was a horse they would have shot her with a broken ankle. anyway i now know 10 ways to make a chicken sandwich.
  18. 19.6% IN 2002 WHICH IS A LOT OF MONEY IF IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN ONLY 5.5% I WOULD LOVE TO KNOW IF I CAN GET REBATE.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  20. I have similar depth and when i bought house the pump had been in service for 30 years .!!!!!!!!!!!! although not every day use in recent years as it was a holiday home owned by a frenchman who worked in varios areas of france and wanted a home near original family. There is an injector at bottom of well  and in my cave a 3 phase pump pulls water up 13 metres +travels to cave at opposite end of house about another 15 metres! It is stored under pressure in cave at 1.5 atmosphere and when yiu turn tap on in kitchen etc., water is drawn off and when it is reduced in level an automatic trip switch ,air operated, starts electic pump until water level restored.there is always a head of air in the tank to push water to the taps. we operate 1 sink 2 bathrooms and 2 toilets. we have had origonal pump repaired a bronze impellor had worn after 30 years.you can buy cheap pumps made of plastic but i doubt the lifetime will be half as great. when i was going to have anew one fitted the plummer who fitted the original said a repair was £300 while a new one was £1000 as they are 3 phase required to pump from greater depths. i do not have town water as it is due this year in my hamlet.i have run dry once due to over use in garden but well is only 1metr diameter and water level also same.

  24. The point i was trying to make was that if you have company and old age pensions you can pay tax in uk or france.however you must do a french tax return and let them know how much you receive and amount of tax as there is double taxation agreements between both countries. i found it was slightly less tax here and opted to tell uk i would like rebate and i declared this to french office who in turn collected the tax locally.
  25. I assume you mean 2047 and not 2074. if so 2047 is declaration made by etranger  the first year in france and you sign bottom of 2'nd page. you also fill in form 2042 and in subsequent years only this one is required.
