2. My Larousse Anglais defines it as "to plough along" [:)] (quite appropriate for cross country, I'd have thought)
 3.
We chose, so get on with one's choices and stop expecting stuff that was done for our native shores and not even mention the extreme warm or cold, wheresoever else we chose to live. WE CHOSE!
I think you're missing the point. You could never have claimed the allowance, because when it was introduced, people already living abroad were not entitled to claim. But people resident in the UK were entitled to claim if they moved abroad, after they had been paid at least once. Now , for whatever reason, they are seeking to cut costs and people who were once entitled no longer are. Excerpt from House of Commons Library : Winter Fuel Payments update                                                                        Standard Note: SN06019                                                                        Last updated: 1 November 2013                                                                        Author: Steven Kennedy                                                                        Section Social Policy Section 6.1 Winter Fuel Payments for people resident abroad The Winter Fuel Payment was not originally payable to people resident abroad, but following discussions with the European Commission the Government accepted in 2002 that it came within the scope of EC regulations on the co-ordination of social security systems and was therefore “exportable” within the European Economic Area (EEA). 31 So people who qualified for the Winter Fuel Payment in Britain could continue to receive it if they moved to another EEA country. However, they could not claim it for the first time if they were already living abroad. In 2011-12, 74,685 persons resident abroad received a Winter Fuel Payment. Almost half (33,815) were in Spain, followed by France (18,155), the Republic of Ireland (7,155) and Cyprus (5,420). In total, £12.8 million was paid to people resident in other EEA states in 2011-12. 32
 4. You may not require a 'permis demolir' [:)] I have demolished a building in the last year and having checked with the Mairie, was told that no permit was required as the structrure was not within 100m of any historical monument ( we only have one here, the church and it's 2km fom us) You may want to inform the tax people afterwards to update tax fonciere and the cadastral plan. (or not [;-)])
 5. Italians shoot any bird, whether they are allowed to or not [:@]
 6.
However, I am trying to think of one french person I know who hasn't got some sort of pride about 'french cuisine'............ the ' on mange bien en France ' syndrome.
But isn't that the same for everything in France for a French person? "Why do I need to go / eat / buy anywhere but France, this country is the best in the world for everything"
 7.
Has anyone heard of these and if so what shops accept them for a purchase? I've never heard of them myself
Google is sometimes your friend [:)] http://www.ticket-kadeos.fr/beneficiaires/Pages/Nos-Cheques-Cadeaux.aspx
 8.
Mr R Reindeer?  Aren't all santa's deer ladies?
"According to the Alaska Department of Fish and Game, while both male and female reindeer grow antlers in the summer each year, male reindeer drop their antlers at the beginning of winter, usually late November to mid-December. Female reindeer, however, retain their antlers until after they give birth in the spring. Therefore, according to every historical rendition depicting Santa's reindeer, every single one of them, from Rudolph to Blitzen..... had to be a female. We should have known this.... Only women would be able to drag a fat man in a red velvet suit all around the world in one night, and not get lost." [Www]
 9. Apologies to woolybanana for going slightly OT, but this, to me, is one law that France should get a grip with and change now. http://www.lepopulaire.fr/limousin/actualite/2014/12/16/une-arme-de-chasse-derobee-par-un-enfant-de-12ans_11260540.html "Au mois de novembre, un Limougeaud s’est fait dérober son arme de chasse après un vol à la roulotte dans sa voiture à Limoges. L’auteur du vol a pu être identifié par la police grâce une vidéo.  Sur les images, un jeune âgé de 12 ans, frère de la “terreur” de Limoges, est clairement vu en train de s’enfuir avec l’arme en question.  Le mineur est irresponsable pénalement en raison de son âge. Quant à l’arme, elle est toujours dans la nature." They know who the 'child' is but can do nothing?[:@]

 11. The AA says; "Free-flow charging may eliminate toll-booth queues and reduce congestion in the short term but most users have no choice about the time and place they cross the Thames. This is one of the most important motorways in Europe and it needs more capacity, not easier ways to pay." [:)]
 12. This LINK  (about a French fishmonger closing for good in New York) says it's a type of sea perch! [8-)] This LINK is what it looks like!

 16. The stuff you use to make cake icing soft. Where can I buy it in France? Please, do not answer with "Have you tried...........?" I just want to know where people have bought it, if at all. Thanks [:)]
 17. We have a 16 Amp CB in our panel, but that's for the an electric oven and gas hob ignition.
 18. I don't want to put you off at all (and welcome to the forum[:)]) but you do realise the post you have answered is 7 years old?
 19.
In no way denying what happened or that it should be forgotten but at the same time just when does a current generation get to break free from the sins of it's antecedents ?
or cease to benefit from any compensation?
 20.
Does anyone really think that France will pay up ? They would be foolish to do so IMHO.
Indeed, BUT The French military captured the pirates on the Somali coast in two operations, after the hostages had been released for ransoms of $2.1m (£1.3m) and $2m.
 21. The European Court of Human Rights says France violated the rights of Somali pirates who had attacked French ships and has ordered compensation for them over judicial delays. The nine Somali pirates should get thousands of euros because they were not immediately brought before a French judge, the court ruled. One is to get 9,000 euros (£7,000) and the others sums of up to 7,000 euros. The judges faulted France for keeping them in custody for an extra 48 hours. The pirates had held French citizens hostage after seizing a French-flagged cruise ship and a French yacht in 2008. 23.
Like yesterday having paid over £2 for a bottle of Listerine in a big UK nationwide chemists We then went into a 99p shop and found loads of the stuff twice the size ... I think we might just be making a habit of looking in 99p shops now .......How do they do it ?
Seems to be cancelled orders, change of sizes and quick management decisions [:)] Have a read of this http://www.thisismoney.co.uk/money/bills/article-1705321/Revealed-Poundlands-secret-to-success.html
 24.
It would help nectrine if you told us what you WILL have available as opposed to what you won't, a tablet or iPad for instance ? BTW at a sensible but still respectable 1600x1200 a 32gb card will hold 1000 pictures anyway, it's tempting to use the highest resolution your camera will manage but there is no real advantage to taking pictures which are bigger than the screen you can display them on or printer you can print them with. You may find that you don't really need any additional storage [;-)]
Also, some cameras can download straight to a USB drive Will you be shooting in RAW? Response to above; if you shoot at the maximum resolution , you can crop the result, gaining an extra "zoom" in the process [:)]
