  1. Flybmi operate a scheduled route from Manchester to Toulouse BUT you have to be flexible in respect of your dates of travel to get the lowest prices. I had a quick look at their site and found that for this route, their prices varied between GBP 57.00 and GBP 238.00 and that was just ONE way.
  2. This begs the question as to WHICH Astra your dish is aimed at - is it the one located at 28.2 degrees east of south and known as Astra 2D?
  3. Still a good deal dependant of course upon how far you have to travel to/from the ferries on the French side. I hope that you enjoy your fortnight.
  4. There is an alternative: Hold down the ALT key and type in using the NUMERIC keypad 0128 and then release the ALT key. On my keyboard it produces the € sign. The other alternative I have discovered but does not work with my set up is hold down the ALT key and type in, again using the NUMERIC keypad 0136. On my set up it produces ˆbut it may work on yours.
  5. Looks like I have found it at http://www.canalshop.co.uk/acatalog/Other_va_dvd.html
  6. Perhaps it was a production fault with the keyboard. However whether it was or not is neither here nor there, at least you now know how to get the € sign!! Happy €€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€
  7. To rest the defaults go back to ADD CHANNELS and once there you will see an instruction at the bottom of the display marked by a red box which then states Rest Symbol Rate & FEC settings. Assuming that you have a SKY remote, aim the remote at the digibox and press the red button. Then use the BACK UP button to escape right out of the system. Just as a thought, you say that BBC2 appears in the EPG on 102 - what happens when you select this? Do you receive BBC2 or not?
  8. Mick Is this a French or English production? The reason that I ask is that I am not fluent in French so if the DVD has English dialogue I would be very tempted to buy it.
  9. That sounds like a good deal. Are you travelling mid week or at the weekend?
  10. Baz What OS are you using? And more to the point are you using an English keyboard or a French one? Is the € sign on the right hand isde of the letter E key? If so is there an ALT GR key to the right of your space bar?  If so, then try the ALT GR key and the E key together.
  11. Port it, port it, port it. Anything that fellow members can assist with - even down to writing a cheque correctly - I have no doubt will be greatly beneficial and appreciated by those who are currently moving to France and have to go through this experience for the first time. Although I cannot see this programme (Micro$oft user), well done and well thought of.
  12. And make sure that the foundations - if any - are sound. Is the ground around the building susceptible to flooding? If so will this affect the building? If yes, then what will it cost to rectify?  And just one other point - why has the building been allowed to fall into rack and ruin?
  13. Chris You are trying to show pictures direct from the hard drive on your PC. You need to enlist the facilties of one of the free hosting sites and upload your pictures to there so that you have an http:// address to link your pictures onto this forum. That way everyone viewing this particular topic will be able to see the pictures.
  14. Dave You will have to enable "sharing" before the rest of us can see the pictures.
  15. Found this item on a newspaper site from the Costa Blanca. The item was published in 2003 Visible motorists for 2004 Motorists will be obliged to carry a reflective jacket and use it at night in case of breakdown from May next year, according to new traffic legislation. Road accident studies show 800 people were killed by other vehicles last year as they left their cars to assist accident victims or repair their own vehicles by night. Unlike the fiasco when emergency triangles were made compulsory, no shortage of stocks is expected – although this has not prevented prices from rocketing in the past weeks. Consumer and motorists' associations advise motorists to shop around as jackets are currently priced at between 10 and 14 euros and they have six months to compare prices. Jackets must be officially approved and carry a 'homologacion' number. And then this item appeared on 23rd July this year: A NEW TRAFFIC LAW OBLIGING DRIVERS AND THEIR PASSENGERS TO WEAR REFLECTIVE VESTS WHEN EXITING VEHICLES ON PUBLIC HIGHWAYS AT NIGHT COMES INTO FORCE AT MIDNIGHT TONIGHT (FRIDAY) - WITH A WARNING FROM OFFICIALS THAT ONE IN THREE VESTS ON SALE TO THE PUBLIC IS NOT SAFE TO USE. Motoring organisation RACE and the Ministry of Health carried out trials on a selection of reflective vests currently on sale to the public. They found that 34 per cent did not comply with EU standard EN-471 and did not have enough reflective qualities to protect the user. They also found they could not be seen at distances greater than 150 metres. Other failings were a lack of information on how to use and maintain the vests and incorrect labelling. The head of the DGT Traffic Department said that unlike warning triangles and spare bulbs and fuses, drivers cannot be fined for not carrying a vest in their vehicles, but if they leave their vehicles without wearing the vest they would be breaking the law and could face fines of up to 60 euros. The use of the vests is obligatory on inter urban roads regardless of whether the area is illuminated. The authorities have not released the brand names of those vests that failed the tests, saying only that manufacturers and retailers have been told to withdraw them from sale. Approved vests carry a label stating that they comply with directive 89/686/EEC and that conform to EU standard EN-471.
  16. What's the name of the cheese that is barred from being carried on public transport in France?
  17. Bob I don't know if the same applies in France however, I have ADSL here in the UK and the phone number that it is shown in my dial up is 0000000 (7 zeroes) - the area code is left blank. As ADSL is always present on the telephone line, the ADSL software automatically connects to the line on start up. I then open my browser and upon doing so, the dial up box appears. As my account name and password are already present all I have to do is click the OK button and I am on the Internet.
  18. Extract from the DVLA' site about these Stingray cameras will detect unlicensed vehicles that are on the move. The camera vans will operate from lay-bys and over-bridges. They will read the number plates of passing vehicles, check them immediately against DVLA records, and store electronically the images of those found to be unlicensed. The new Stingray cameras will act as a powerful deterrent to those who may consider risking driving whilst unlicensed. Not having a current licence disc is illegal and could be expensive. Offenders face a fine of up to a £1,000 for a private car or motorcycle and up to £23,000 for a heavy goods vehicle. In addition to paying a fine, convicted offenders will have to pay backduty penalties from the date the vehicle was last licensed. The new Stingray automatic number plate reader has been type approved to the highest standard by the Home Office. It is a computer that collects images of unlicensed moving vehicles from digital cameras. The evidence collected by Stingray is totally secure and tamperproof. The system and vans are DVLA owned and supported by the manufacturer, Futronics Ltd. DVLA staff will operate the Stingray system. Stingray is capable of working day and night with vehicle speeds in excess of 100 mph.
  19. Or if you check the French Embassy website it quotes this: Exchange of the British Driving Licence in France According to the European Community Directive (91/439/EEC), since 1 January 1997 British Nationals taking up residence in France for more than a year do not have to exchange their British licence for a French one anymore. However if British Nationals wish to do so, the request must be done at the "Préfecture" of your place of residence. The issuing of a French driving licence implies the withdrawal of the national driving licence, which is sent back to the issuing authority (Driver & Vehicle Licensing Authority).
  20. Terry Am I to presume from this that the bull got the better of you? If so, I hope that your injuries are not serious and I wish you a speedy recovery.
  21. Quote Teejay: On the other hand, it is illegal to publish racist material, Are the laws clear regarding racist material via the internet?  Or is it up to the forum administrators to lay down their own rules and hope that they are observed? End quote. According to the Internet Watch Foundation it all appears to hinge on where the website is hosted. This link will explain what I mean  http://www.iwf.org.uk/police/page.22.39.htm And for those who cannot access it, the text reads: Public Order Act 1986 The law covering criminally racist material makes it an offence to stir up racial hatred against a group of persons in Great Britain defined by reference to colour, race, nationality (including citizenship) or ethnic or national origins. We can process reports on UK hosted Internet content which users believe stirs up such hatred.  This act makes it an offence for a person to use threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour, or to displays any written material which is threatening, abusive or insulting, if;-  (a) he intends thereby to stir up racial hatred, or (b) having regard to all the circumstances racial hatred is likely to be stirred up thereby.  The Act also covers the crime of Incitement to Racial Hatred Incitement to Racial Hatred is covered by the following: PART IX RACE RELATIONS ACT 1976 INCITEMENT TO RACIAL HATRED 70.-(1) The Public Order Act 1936 shall be amended in accordance with the following provisions of this section.   2) After section 5 there shall be inserted the following section:-   5A.-(1) A person commits an offence if- (a) he publishes or distributes written matter which is threatening, abusive or insulting; or (b) he uses in any public place or at any public meeting words which are threatening, abusive or insulting, in a case where, having regard to all the circumstances, hatred is likely to be stirred up against any racial group in Great Britain by the matter or words in question. 22. Kevinmc I wondered what the "catch" was. George Congratulations on getting the £49.00 booking. I now see that the company's site redirects to the Ferry Sale site advertising the fares.
  23. Now one would have thought that if ferry sale were advertising them at that price then Hoverspeed would do the same. I have just checked Hoverspeed's site and treid two test bookings. The first one is for Sautrday to Saturday:     departureroutevesselarrival19/03/2005 10:00Dover / Calais81M SEACAT19/03/2005 12:0026/03/2005 14:15Calais / Dover81M SEACAT26/03/2005 14:15descriptionpricequantitytotaloutward journey   Adult0.0010.00Car (up to 1.6m high)89.00189.00return journey
