washroom” . ( is toilet a bad word in the US ? )

Why?

I wouldn't like my kids to call me Mother. I think of my mother as mother as she was cold and special, some women are 'cold and special'.

Seriously though it would depend on the setting, but I personally don't find it patronising as a general rule. There are lots of things on this earth that I do find patronising, but not this.

Waitperson

Inflated job titles such as ''refuse disposal operative'' for dustman.

''Your call is important to us..............'' Well, if it's so important answer the f-ing thing then!

Watershed when used for anything other than that particular geographic feature.

Spiralling as in inflation, prices etc.

Scenario (and, in the same vein, situation).

Back in the day........

''Like'' when used other than as a comparative as in ''it was, like, raining, yeah? And I was like 'no way'.''

No way. And even worse the reply 'yes way'.
