the change is done and thats that, was the old forum better than this new one?MrO
We won't really know for a while will we but just as I have to wait to see if the present Chelsea side is better than last seasons side, only time will tell, on both scores but as in both cases, it sure looks to be better

Can someone help a lady in distress?  How does one reply to a specific posting?  On a previous thread, I thought I was replying to Richard but my comment appeared at the bottom of the page.  Is this still possible?  I dare not ring James again, he'll think I'm a complete idiot...  M

Margaret, the posts now appear in date order, so the latest post will always be at the end.

To reply to a specific post, use the "Quote" option at the top right of that post.  That copies the whole thing into your new reply, and you can edit it as you see fit.

If you have a look over on TotalFrance, you'll see it all in action.

Hey Miki,

I hear that my Blues played your Blues off the field last Saturday - but I s'pose it is the score that counts in the end

Deby

Forum Admin,  How can I see who is posting/replying - do you know have to put your name in after the post?

The new layout is different from the old - more in line with the majority of forums. It may take some getting used to, I agree, but I think it will prove a more logical and easy to follow system once we are all used to it.

Regarding 'quote' - if you highlight the particular text you want to quote before hitting the 'quote' button you should get only that text in the reply; that should save editing.

Your name should appear with your reply (in the top left hand box). If you want to add your name or web link or any other little (non-commercial advertising please) tag you can do it by the 'signature' in your profile, like the old forum, but with more possibilities. You can also add personal and contact information, and an 'avatar' (the little picture under your user name beside the postings). One big benefit of the new software is that it is much more secure, and nobody can find out your e-mail address from the forum, unlike the old system.

We know there are a few minor bugs, and are grateful to members for bringing these to our attention, and for your comments. The actual job of migrating old postings to the new forum was very difficult, because the old forum worked under a totally different system, and I think we should congratulate James (Forum Admin) for what he has managed. We know it's not perfect yet but are sure it will settle down smoothly.

Some of the old postings don't actually appear in the new forum. We don't think they are lost, just floating around in the system looking for a home, as they seem to come up if you do a search. So if you remember posting a particular gem to the old forum and it doesn't appear here, probably the best thing is to find it by doing a search on your user name, or a key word in your message, then when you find it you can copy and paste into a new message.

Hello Will

Thanks for the info - however in the left hand box there is no identity, just Forum member/Senior member/newbie etc.  There is no signature i.e. Will or Miki etc.

Is there something which I need to set etc?

Thanks SB.  I never could quite figure out what was going on at TF, suppose that was one of the reasons I never really took to the site.  I have a dreadful mental block when it comes to technology.  M

I hope the posting from the couple who had never actually been to France, didn't speak a word of French but were planning on moving there permanently made its way in the migration.  M

Janey, it sounds like you may not be looking at the latest version if you can see those words because those were changed a couple of days ago. The problem is that because the domain name was moved and now points to a different website (the new website) it takes ISP's a few days to show the new site as they have saved versions of the old. Should sort automatically soon though.

The new format will take some getting used to but as long as the same people are around and continue to post it should be good. One question - some of the recent postings are missing. What has happened to them? I put a question on "difficult neighbour" on the Legal forum about two weeks ago and had about 8 replies. Now there are only 4. Pat.

Hi

http://tlp.netfirms.com/flamant.gif

a few comments :

1)Because latest posts always appear at the bottom, posters will need to be more disciplined. The old board could cater for splinter discussions within one post, but that is now more difficult.

2)I've lost my animated signature. And how can you insert an image ? Can't see how to do this.

3)Looks cleaner & more up to date

Peter

Got the birdie back, thanks !
Miki this just isn't fair! I go away for a few days and when I come back everything's changed AND ALL MY POSTS HAVE GONE! How can I catch up now?
Dick,

Please have some decorum.

I am now an officially titled  member and as such I would like to referred to as

Senor Miki

Oh merde, it says Senior, sorry Dick, it's still plain old Miki then.............

As I said before, we are expecting big things from you this winter and SB is slowing down a bit, so with the right training, you will pass her total around January I reckon!

Senior Miki (NOT Senor )

OK what you need to do is insert <img src="http://tlp.netfirms.com/flamant.gif"> into the html not the Design reply. When you post check at the bottom of the post area and you will see what I mean.

As for missing posts the migration was difficult and the threaded style of the old forum made it worse. In some cases the replys are there but the numbering says there are less than there actually is and in other cases the replys are in the search but not in the correct place on the forum system.

Be serious, Rubberduck!!!

There's a - ow you say - "friendly rivalry" between LF and TF, you know, like between Saints and Pompey.

LivingFrance has been referred to as "The Dark Side" because sometimes we get a bit enthusiastic (French?) in our discussions, and more sensitive souls get frightened.

TotalFrance for a while was regarded as a bit of a Sunday School, everyone awfully nice to each other.   Slightly more animated recently, because someone said they liked McDonalds, and that let loose the hounds of war

Many people now frequent both.  It's a truce of sorts .

Yes, I couldn't take to TF because of this method. I don't like it. All the flow of the threads is lost and I think more people will take to sending private messages, because it's tedious when you end up replying with a quote to something that is on page 2 and your reply appears on page 7. Surely the reader hasn't a clue what is going on. I found TF very tedious and haven't used it. The only reason I'm sticking around here is because I feel part of a great group of people. But, the only way to be involved in the flow is to check twice a day. I think if you leave it more than a few days, then anything you've been discussing will be completely lost with the lack of flow.

On the other hand, I do like the way that when you hover the cursor over the heading of a topic, you can actually read the first part of the posting. That way it saves you clicking on something and finding it isn't of interest.

I also feel that what has been written in the new introduction as a message to new people, warning them about hoaxers and other things not being representative of LF is very good. It's what many of us have been saying for a long time.

I am disappointed though, that my Private Messages haven't joined me at the new forum. I had quite a few messages stored there and I do feel we should all have been told the date when it would happen so that we could set our message boxes etc in order.

What does it mean on the bit that says "add attachments to this post"? What sort of attachments?
