Tete de veau

I had soom tete de veau  to-day [+o(]. How on earth does anyone eat the stuff? My French friend was gobbling it up. Just the thought of it makes my stomach turn over. Does any "ex-pat" like it, or am I just odd?

Sorry, I posted this here having seen the "France on a Plate" thread, it should probably be in the Food and Drink section! [:$]

Well I think you are brave, and are to be congratulated. Tête de veau is quite common in Morbihan on the menu du jour and it does seem to be much appreciated. My OH - who enjoys meaty dishes but not every day, tried it once and said it was interesting but he didn't feel it warranted a second round.
I love it - especially the kind that has cornichons in it.
The eyes are the best bit though. [;-)]

I assume we are talking about the actual boiled calf's head, not the brawn-like 'fromage de tête' which is an entirely different and very palatable thing?

Most of the time, this is how it is prepared, everything is taken off ( bones, etc..) and it is rolled ..

Accompanied with potatoes, and the famous sauce gribiche.

Let us be here balanced and thus whatever you wish to eat is simply a process that you (in the collective term) are comfortable with.  That is the process and your rights are to be protected.

In the alternative think before you go to your bed tonight the way that veal is raised.  Then I am sorry but there is no excuse for eating the end or by product.  Be it here or in Holland or wherever.

In line with the hunting season it is something that you have to accept but not necessarily agree with.

It disgusts me but then so do many other things and I for balance again probably disgust other people for I love Welsh cawl cockles Welsh rugby and wines from the Rhone.  But veal sorry.

I was once driving in North Wales and a trailer was in front of me with live calves they were not going to market and thus to their end they were going live the whole distance of Wales down to the Channel Ports and thus on to a fattening contract for they would not be accepted here in the dead format.

How can we as a so-called civilised society allow animals to be transported hundreds of miles in cramped conditions to a so called humaine process in a foreign land.

Toss the grenades and I will defend.

That is the purpose of an open respectful society.

I hear what you are saying, but all veals are not raised this way .

I try to buy meat from animals that have been bred in a respectful way.

Anyway, I said I didn't have tête de veau, but I just thought I would explain how it is prepared.

I think almost everybody on the forum knows I am an animal lover, but I am not vegetarian.

And I know what I'm talking about, my dad's from Britanny, my grand parents had a farm, and my cousins still work in agriculture.

Tha fact that C Aznavour is not French " so what does he know" surprised me a bit .

Aren't you British yourself ?? [Www]
