I fancy that all my prowesses will be to no avail as neither the Icon facility nor the Hyperlien facility seem to function with the French Version of Internet Explorer 8 Beta 2 on a French Version of Vista SP1.

But any help you can offer will be gratefully received and acknowledged.

PS The rabbit thing which has upset you is an implied reference to "standing up Microsoft at the Virtual Cyber Altar.

" poser un lapin à Microsoft"

Apologies I promise not to use the word "b***y" again and to avoid gallic subtleties.[:)]

EDIT

PPS Nor the quote function either...are you forcing me to use FireFox!!

Pity Version 2.0.0.19 has no Phishing Protection though; still it is the last time it will be updated; so an auspicious moment to graduate to Version 3.

In accordance with well established custom the availability of the Microsoft security update coincided with the commencement of the Press Release at 13:00 ET; 19:00 CET.

The KB 960714 update has been available on the French Microsoft Server now since 7 P.M.

In my case involving a 4.8 MB download covering Internet Explorer 7 and Internet Explorer 8 Beta 2.

A reboot of the PC is required to complete the installation.

Has anyone using Google Chrome tried to downlaod Adobe Flash Player. It insists on closing Chrome before it can be done. Are there any other flash players about?

Also Pitstop have recommended that  Microsoft XP Service Pack 3 should not yet be installed. Any one done so and has it caused any problems

[quote user="Clair"]I have just downloaded and installed 2 security updates (IE7 and IE8 Beta).

Was it the update for French IE7 or English?  My Windows updater says I'm already up to date (French Vista).  It hasn't rebooted so I know I've had no automatic updates this evening, and I can't find it it to download it manually on the Microsoft site [:(]

Edit:  found it by searching for KB 960714

Default plug-in Java Flash, but first update Chrome to 1.0.154.39, available on Beta News as a manual download.

I thought everyone was on SP3, never had any problem with it.

For Flash info open Chrome Help and enter Flash in Search Option.

Am I alone in thinking all this is a bit of a storm in a tea cup?

Does anybody on this forum know anybody whose actually been affected by this security issue?

And why don't we get news items on BBC TV when security vulnerabilities are found in Firefox or one of the other browsers?

Just today patches have been issued to fix serious security issues with Firefox. Why aren't we hearing / reading lots of scare news stories about that?

Seems to me there's a whole body of people who love any opportunity to pour oil on the fire when negative stories appear about MS. And incidentally, do people realise it was Microsoft's own security team who broke the story in the first place. So hardly an exposé at all!  \end rant

Yes I knew of someone who was affected , and it appeared to come from China as Microsoft suggested

It was me who started the thread and it was done out of concern not

scorn; my OH uses IE6 on his laptop as it is the only browser he feels

at ease with. But I am involved as I am the one who has to keep his

computer up to date and functioning correctly so that it is safe for him to use.

Absolutely and they said they would be releasing a critical update and they have.

Sue from what I read of RJPs post he was talking about the great wide world loves kicking M/soft. None more than me at times, but that goes for any big organisation. There will always be someone who is going to knock M/soft, quite often because they don't know it and use something else?

I don't think he was 'having a go' at you...
