1. The air vent pipe in the floor is a legal requirement if you are going to have a fuel burner of some sort, it would usually be done at the time of laying the rest of the plumbing pipework into the concrete foundation, it would add very little to the cost. The €1500 you paid would be about the right cost to fit a chimney normally a ready made to fit type, you may not be able to see it from inside the house it's  suspended in the loft space and the hole through the ceiling to connect the fire to the chimney is made by the person fitting the fire. You should of course be able to see the chimney from the outside coming out from somewhere in the roof, if you can't then you need to speak to your builders.

9. Don't forget if you want to exchange your UK licences and want to keep all the groups on it (Towing larger trailers or a caravan for example) then unless you have a medical certificate you will not be able to transfer these groups. You will not have to take a driving test in France if you hold an EU licence, just do the licence exchange before your 70th birthday, if the rules change, I am sure that you will get plenty of time to make a decision on when is the right time to change.
10. I posted a link to this site for car related translations, French to English / English to French sometime ago, here it is again. http://the.burgund.chez-alice.fr/trad_cadre.htm

14.
Thanks, I would not have thought of using the word provinces. Further  -- I have briefly looked at your link and still the midi does not exist. I once had a French teacher who said she was born there. Where?
Southern France From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia • Have questions? Find out how to ask questions and get answers. • Jump to: navigation, search Southern France (or the South of France), colloquially known as Le Midi, is a loosely defined geographical area consisting of the regions of France that border the Atlantic Ocean south of the Gironde, Spain, the Mediterranean Sea, Italy, and Switzerland south of the Jura. The region includes: AquitaineMidi-PyrénéesLanguedoc-RoussillonProvence-Alpes-Côte d'AzurCorsicaRhone-AlpesAuvergneLimousin This area corresponds in large part to Occitania; that to say, the territory in which Occitan (the langue d'oc) – as distinct from the langues d'oïl of northern France – was the historically dominant language. The name le Midi derives from mi (middle) and di (day) in Old French. Midday was synonymous with the direction of south because in France the Sun is in the south at noon, like all of the Northern Hemisphere. The synonymy existed in Middle French as well, where meridien means both "midday" and "south."
15. You might find the answer here. http://www.coderoute.com/home_flash.php?MODULE=DemoTest
16. Well I am still 'kin confused, there appears to be lots of message editing going on, every time I look at the thread most of the post have changed from the original without any reference to being edited.
17. I am a little confused, has your post been edited? It looks like Claire has answered your last post even before the question has been asked[8-)]. Also on another thread you said that you had sold your property "I too just sold my house and in spite of having 5 Immobiliers showing it on their websites (and doing nothing else!!) I managed to sell it myself with a little advert.  I was willing to spend about £70 for a web advert to (unlike imobiliers). My only worry was the Compris which I thoght the Immobilier drewup...."   This would imply that you now know the ropes.
18.
Gs Think you are right, having spoken to the HMRC help line who say that the R85 does not apply to non UK residents. It looks as though I have to come down to earth and accept that every year I must claim tax in a proactive way, like asking for it, or does the HMRC system eventually work out that you have overpaid and eventually send you a refund? Sick and tired of tax matters, and having posted off my forms, I'll try and get on with life. BobD
Despite what others on this forum say about claiming tax refunds on building society interest payments. I fill out form R43 and send it off to Nottingham (if it's a joint account you will need separate forms and each claim half the interest paid). It's very simple and the tax is refunded quickly.
19. Interest on savings.  We have to declare interest on savings from two sources - an offshore savings account where the interest is paid gross of tax; and a much smaller amount from our UK current account where tax is already paid.  Is the total amount of interest (gross) entered in box TS of form 2047k regardless of whether of not tax was paid in the UK (the FAQs suggest you can then request your UK bank to pay interest gross in the future) The answer is Yes, add all the interest together and enter it on the 2047. Claim any Tax paid  back  from the UK in the usual way.

21. For future reference, this is a quote taken from the FAQ's  on the Total France forum it may be of use. Following extended discussion on another thread, I provide the following extensive post from Mr J H Punchard - www.direct.gov.uk/motoring; Thank you for your email. Foreign vehicles brought temporarily into the country by a person resident outside the UK for their own use, are permitted to circulate in the country for a period of 6 months in any 12 month period provided they are able to satisfy the authorities that the vehicle is licensed and registered in the country of normal residence and they are resident outside the UK. The Motor Vehicles ( International Circulation) Order 1975, as amended, provides temporary exemption for vehicles which comply with the provisions of Council Directive 83/182, from licensing and registration requirements during this period. Normal residence means the place where a person usually lives for at least 185 days in each calendar year. Drivers may be asked to produce proof of their place of residence to the authorities of the country the vehicle is being used in. If at any time a vehicle being used here on foreign plates is stopped by the police, it is the responsibility of the keeper to demonstrate that s/he is eligible to use the vehicle here without registering and licensing it. Should you require an extension of the 6 month period allowed, you must immediately contact your nearest HM Revenue and Customs Advice Centre giving a reason as to why you wish the vehicle to stay in Britain. It will depend on HM Revenue & Customs whether or not you will have to register the vehicle under the British registration and licensing system. If an extension to the 6 month period is not allowed, you will be issued with a HM Revenue & Customs status certificate (C&E386/388). On receipt of this certificate, you should apply immediately to register and licence the vehicle at your nearest DVLA Local Office.
22. Tinabee Please excuse me for being so dense, but I can't see "autres renseignements...." on the last or indeed, any, page? This was on the last page  of last years form 2042 but not on this years, there is  on page 2  "E" Reseignements Complémetaires maybe you could use that.
23. I can send a fax for you, if you give me the details.
24. Why make it complicated ? declare the euro equivalent of the monies paid into your UK account, in just the same way that you would if you had received the money in France  in euros. I am not an accountant.
