1. Hi, Unless you saved your Word 2007 documents in Word 97-03 (.doc) format you won't be able to open them in an earlier version unless you download and install Microsoft's 'Office Compatibility Pack' see link below: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=941B3470-3AE9-4AEE-8F43-C6BB74CD1466&displaylang=en As for the Freebies try http://www.download.com/windows/  apart from the Anti-Virus and other security software, you will find free photo editing software such as IrfanView and Paint.net to name but two. Best of Luck with re-building your Programme portfolio.   Regards
2.
I tried the expensive wipes but shadow? still there I thinkit is behind the glass tv 3 years old thompson flat screen.any comments?
If you do have a glass protective screen then you may have a small area of moisture behind the glass.  If there is no glass screen cover then the following info may be of interest.  LCD screens have a protective coat applied at the factory.  To clean them you should not use abrasive or chemical cleaners just a soft damp cloth.  I would suggest that the 'shadow' is where you have rubbed the protective coat off the screen.
3.
Try a pop up blocker such as THIS I use Firefox and never have problems with them, if you use Internet Explorer it may be time to change. Have you got all the Microsoft updates?
I have seen this problem with Firefox and Opera.  The problem is most likely a Trojan and nothing to do with Internet Explorer.
4.
Anybody got any of the free virus protection systems to work with Linux Lite?
http://www.avast.com/eng/avast-for-linux-workstation.html http://www.pandasoftware.com/download/linux/linux.asp   Regards
5. Hi Clair, Excellent links for Vista. I used this link http://www.tweakvista.com/VistaInterfaceTweaks.aspx  Plus using the Help section of Vista.  I think one of the greatest improvements Vista has over previous versions of Windows is the 'Search' facility on the start menu.   Regards
6. Hi Rose, I have set up many notebooks in the past few months for people not sure how to register and use.  Makes varying from Sony Viao, Acer, Toshiba, Dell etc.  All seem good value for money.  I have my own preference but suffice to say my present notebook is an Acer. The reason I am posting is why do so many contributers have a downer on Vista?.  It is an excellent operating system.  My notebook, and one of my desktops run Vista, another runs XP Pro.  and when all the bells and whistles have been disabled on Vista it is a hundred times better than XP.  When XP was launched many people didn't want to change from Windows 98se, now it appears the same ones don't want to change from XP to Vista.  The cost of an OEM version of Vista Home Premium is much cheaper than XP. Best of Luck with your search   Regards
7. Sweet 17, You are confusing us all!.  You don't connect to the interner using MSN, MSN is not a browser,  Internet Explorer, Firefox, Opera etc are. If you mean your HOME PAGE when you are on the internet is MSN, and you want to remove their tool bar, check out the link below and follow the instructions for your operating system and toolbar. http://www.vretoolbar.com/news/2007/01/23/remove-delete-uninstall-toolbar/ To change your home page start Internet Explorer, on the menu bar click on Tools>Internet Options>General - in the Home Page window (existing one highlighted in blue) the website you want to use as your home page i.e. http://www.google.co.uk , click on apply bottom right then OK.  Your home page is now set. Best of Luck
8. Hi Sweet 17, To remove the 'Sidebar' all you have to do is move your mouse pointer over to the Left or Right (usually on the right of the screen) under the clock or whatever you have installed.  Right click and left click on 'Close Sidebar' ---- GONE! Regards
9. Hi, Where is the 'noise' coming from?, your speakers?, if so turn them off unless you need sound for a specific reason i.e. music from a C.D. or the computer. It sounds (no pun intended) to me that the jackplug connection from your speaker(s) to your soundcard is loose or dirty.   Regards
10. Hi Woody, Yes they do, see link below for spec. http://www.microdirect.co.uk/(37728)Sandisk-4GB-Cruzer-Micro-U3USB-Flash-Drive.aspx   Regards
11. Still can't access Orange France website, no problems with Freesurf or Free in fact with any French website, just Orange.  Complete mystery.
12.
Working fine at present for me.
If it is working your side of the Channel it must be a routing problem over here.  My ISP 'Be' show no routing problems (at least none they admit to) and I use Open DNS with no problems accessing other sites, so it is a mystery. Many thanks anyway
13. Is anyone else having problems accessing Orange France website?, I have been trying to log onto a friends webmail account (he is in hospital) but the website is not available.
14. Your PC seems to be infected with Malware, run your Anti-Virus, and any spyware/adware programmes you may have to detect and remove the offending malware.
15.
By the way- I don/'t know if there is any connection but AVG is tellling me there has been an invalid update cointrol CTF file which affects my Anti Virus and spyware.
If you are using AVG 8 Free the message is telling you that the update manager is invalid, ignore it, just keep trying to update, it will eventually correct itself.  The problem is too many users are accessing the update server at the same time so you are timing out.
16. Hi, I miss Old English Spangles, Pear Drops and Prickly Pear Drops (Sherbert in the centre) and many of the Fry's, or Rowntree products that have been discontinued by their present owners Cadbury's and Nestle.  All of my favourite chocolates have disappeared from Nestle's 'Quality Street', now a bland collection of chocolates no different from any other.  Sad to see the demise of Rowtree/MacIntosh. As an aside, flying saucers are still available, my Grandchildren love them.
17. Hi Maude, The Broadcom 440x10/100 integrated controller is the network card controller.  It is unusual for there to be a problem with only one function of the network printer/scanner.  Normally if there is a fault with the controller you can't connect at all.  You indicate that your computer is a Dell, try searching the Dell UK website for an updated driver for the controller which may solve the problem.  It costs a fortune using the telephone helpline. http://support.euro.dell.com/support/index.aspx?c=uk&l=en&s=dhs&cs=ukdhs1&~ck=mn I can't check the website on your behalf as I don't know the make and model of your computer. Best of luck
18. Hi Chessie, Your present system just isn't worth trying to upgrade, for the same cost bite the bullet and buy a new one.
19. Hi Deauville, I see your are computer savvy, however have you done the most basic check for a slowing down PC - Defragging? Apart from the defrag shipped with the operating system there are many and varied programmes that will do a quicker and better defrag including the free one on the link below: http://www.download.com/UltimateDefrag-Freeware-Edition/3000-2094_4-10582157.html?tag=mncol&cdlPid=10840833 Or try this freeware: http://www.download.com/Advanced-WindowsCare-Personal/3000-2086_4-10407614.html?tag=mncol;pop&cdlPid=10890240 Best of Luck
20. Hi Cat, I am afraid there is no solution to your problem.  Adobe discontinued support for Photodeluxe in 2002 so I can't find a way for it to work in Vista.  Take a look at the links below which are two FREE image editors, both are loaded with tools and will cost you nothing.  You can download one or both, try them and if not happy delete. http://www.download.com/GIMP/3000-2192_4-10073935.html?tag=mncol;pick&cdlPid=10892557 http://www.download.com/IrfanView/3000-2192_4-10021962.html?tag=mncol;pop&cdlPid=10865169   Regards
21. Hi, I think your modem is trying to tell you that the Computer is at fault not the modem, if it works perfectly with another P.C. then I suggest you check the settings on the original P.C.  Not knowing what your P.C. configuration, operating system or model nor your Modem make and model it would be difficult to suggest a solution. Regards
22. Oops, sorry Anton and Pierre,  saw the thread and didn't notice the date.
23.
My friend has just bought a Nintendo Wii from Amazon France as she cannot get one anywhere over in the UK. Suey
Hi sueyh, I don't know why your friend can't buy one in the UK, I have checked the stores and there are plenty around from approx £180 to £185 at a  large supermarket chain and also Electrical store (no names)
24.
I used to be a first-aider in the UK, so am not too squeamish, but do wonder how I'd cope with the really awful stuff.
Hi Cat, Go for it, the really awful stuff is rare.  Can't speak for the Pompiers in France but spent 30 years Full time operational Firefighter in the UK   Regards
25. Hi, Try Tools>Options>Advanced then click on the 'Maintenance' button, tick the box 'Empty messages in the Deleted folder on exit', Close>Apply.  Now exit Windows Mail, restart Windows Mail and check the 'Deleted' Folder. I use this setting all the time because when I delete a message I want it deleted, I don't use the deleted folder to store messages.   Best of Luck
