  1. Fay, you come up as an advanced meber, and Patmobile you come up as a senior member. When I mentioned this the other day i was told that apparently we aren,t supposed to be seing this now as the format has changed.  janey
  2. We don,t charge any extra for the bed linen, it,s changed once a week. I just knock on the door politelyfor the guests that are here for 2 weeks, ask if they,d like the bed linen changed..some do... some don,t. I don,t provide towels though, and I do all the cleaning/washing/ironing myself. Janey
  3. I,m finding it   r e a l ly   s  l  o  w...  no...painfully slow Janey

J,ai besoin a savoir..a) Est ce qu,il est en bon etat?                             b) Est ce qu,il est jouable toute de suite?                              c) Est ce qu,il y a un bon qualite de son                              d) Quelle ast la la derniere  fois il etait accorde Is it in good condition..is it playable staight a way..is there a good quality of sound...when was the last time it was tuned I,m sure someone else might have a better translation for you Pat,( and maybe better grammar/spelling, can,t find dictionary ) but this will get you your reply. 5. It,s taken me ages to get on. finally got the hang of it, like all the little smileys What do the little grey boxes mean ie forum guru..supreme being etc ? Janey
  6. Most of the French ones just seem to hang, some have a nail for you to tap into the ceiling and then you wind a piece of string from the rose to keep it there. You can use the English ceiling roses as we,ve done. Janey
  7. My brother and his French wife are about to put their house on the market ( in France)in order to move to another area. But the problem is they haven,t got the money to put down as a deposit for the next house, all eaten up by their business! Does anyone know how you can overcome this, there must be other people who find themselves in the same situation. When you are buying your second home is it always necassary to have the deposit. They can,t get a loan from a bank. Janey
  8. Can,t help Julia, but I hope you find a lovely home for them. Janey
  9. Frederic, I might be wrong, but I thing it,s age 14. But I,m sure that between the ages of 14-16 they have to have passed a test first. I know that between age 16-18 to ride a 50cc moto/scooter they don,t have to take lessons or take a test ( just asked for my own son ) as they are considered mature enough to be sensible on the road. Don,t know about the tractor but I can only imagine it,s not legal on public roads. There must be some-one else on here that knows for sure? Janey
  10. An opportunity has arisen for hubby to finally work in France, as for the past 3 yrs he has continued to work in England coming home approx every 2 weeks. In England he is a senior site manager/projects manager earning a very good wage. It is now possible he could work for the mairie doing all sorts of maintenance/building works in our village, which he is more than qualified to do.He is also the safety officer on each site he goes to and at the moment is being used as trouble shooter. Problem no 1...he doesn,t speak French..is having lessons and now understands more than he did..not a huge problem, can be overcome Problem no 2..the post is full time BUT the pay is terrible ! Approx 8-9000 pounds. We haven,t got a mortgage, don,t owe money to anyone and I could get a part-time job. My sister-in-law who is french has said to me, the more you earn in France, the more that gets taken away from you. The less you earn, the more help there is available. So, does anyone know..would you pay tax on that amount of earnings ? Would we automatically qualify for child benefit (ages 17 and 12 ). Is there any other aide available for families on low earnings ? By the way I,m not asking this thinking to myself..lets get whatever,s going..no way. But this is the first chance that has become available for hubby to be here with us full time, he needs to be here in order to learn French and we need him to be here. It,s a huge step to take, but it has to be taken at some point, and it,s a start. If anyone can answer my questions I,d be really gratefull, thankyou. Janey
  11. I think you,ll find you can use Lazure..it treats the wood and protects it. Janey
  12. Unless I,m wrong Mal and I could well be, I think it,s the people staying it rather than the building itself..ie..does someone live in a particular house/building fulltime, is it their permanent home?( in other words not a holiday home ) Janey
  13. They,re the ones that get hidden in the wardrobe Val for when the kids are out ! mmmmm Janey
  14. How sad! I always liked him. Janey
  15. Castorama and Leroy Merlin. Janey
  16. Di, for the past year I,ve been plagued with hot flushes. Went to the doctors recently to say I wanted to loose weight and he put me on a diet. I,m not allowed bread, poatoes, rice, sugar and alcohol. The good news is in 16 days I,ve lost 81b and ...hardly a hot flush in sight. I am stil having night sweats but I,d rather have them than hot flushes during the day, in the supermarket, in the bank in fact just about everywhere that you,d rather not have them! janey
  17. Could anyone tell me please,do you normally pay for the Norton Antivirus. It came with the computer when we bought it (new) and I,ve received notification today it runs out and i have to renew it. But you have to pay to renew it,is that normal? Also is there any other anti virus stuff just as good as Norton but for free? Thankyou, Janey
  18. If anyone from the forum is joining Wendy for the walk, you,re welcome to pop in and say hello as I live in Dions. Let me know by private message to make sure I,m there. Janey
  19. I know this isn,t strictly related to France but I,ve got a 12 yr old here crying her eyes out because somehow shes blocked her phone. Her phone is Nokia 3410 and she,s been playing around with PIN codes..told her not to and now all her phone say,s is sim card rejected. I haven,t got a clue what to do so I,m just hoping that some technical experts out there might be able to help. Thankyou Janey and a teary eyed Chantelle.
  20. Saligo bay, neither do I ! Can,t you just tell the joke about the snake again coz that really made me laugh. Sorry, fed up and p....d off today, need something to laugh at...the snake joke was good! Janey
  21. A friend of mine lives on top of Quillan and there are LOADS of English people there and in the surrounding villages. When we were there a couple of months ago I was surprised at how much English I heard. In her tiny village alone (forget the name but it,s on top of Quillan ) there are at least 6 English families. Janey
  22. Apparently there are some funny goings on with user names Georgina, mine wasn,t being accepted, I,ve had to re-register. janey
  23. Frank, if somone has sent you a message and you are replying to it, you can go back and check that, unless you,ve deleteed it, but how you check what you,ve sent yourself I don,t know, would be very handy to be able to check it. janey
  24. Sarah, we registered all of our kids out of school times and didn,t have any problems.
