URGENT APPEAL: Boy missing in France

Recommended Posts

What of the families EU rights? free to travel throughout the EU but no local law in the UK claps them in irons and tells the Spanish to do the same. What threat do they pose to other members of society?  I hope they sue and use the money to pay for the treatment, this could be quite embarrassing for the UK.

Of course the press painted their usual sensationalising headlines and it looks like the family have all given up being Jehovas' not to mention the eldest Son showing us all the mobile charger they have for the feeding unit so no danger of the batteries going flat.

I don't sign on-line petitions either, Pommier, but somebody make it clickable quick.

Teapot, I too heard this morning that the eldest brother, Danny, could see him but that was BEFORE the court appearance.  This afternoon, it was back to NONE of his family could see him.

Heartless, disgusting, unbelievable?  Yes, all of those things.................what a total nightmare[+o(]
This is surely not how European Arrest Warrants were supposed to be used, is it?

There doesn't appear to be any crime that his parents are supposed to have committed. Not so much "nanny state" as "1984" - caring for your child is apparently criminal neglect.
Precisely, hopefully with a decent lawyer they will get compensation sufficient to pay for the treatment required and show up this travesty for what it is.  Seldom has such a farce been played out for the world to see.

I've seen a couple of examples on TV today where the treatment this family want for their son has been suggested by a NHS consultant and the NHS has paid for the children concerned to go to Oklahoma to receive it.......

It seems like the treatment is available on the NHS .....so the question remains why it was not offered or the family not supported if they wanted to fund it privately.....

Very true RH, dare anyone say postcode lottery? local area health authority decides who. I just cannot find a reason to blame these parents for trying every avenue open to them, waiting to be corrected.  Hopefully those at Calais will see it and change their minds and head for another country and leave a little of the NHS for those that have actually contributed. Now I am getting all harsh.

Just watching the tissue of lies, half truths, and coverups developing on tonight's Newsnight coverage.

The CPS apparently issued the European Arrest Warrant based on "Cruelty to a child under the age of 16" with no evidence except what they were told in the Hants Constabulary's version of the hospital's tale. All probably done in a panic over being seen to do "the right thing".

A mealy-mouthed member of the medical profession repeated the hospital's assertion that there was a "breakdown of communication" with the parents.

He also said that the situation in Spain would be easily sorted out if it was in the UK, completely ignoring the fact that Spain is legally obliged by Treaty to execute the Warrant, and their courts have no authority to decide on the legality of it.

Almost every time the video of the father is shown, what he is actually saying is inaudible because of a voice-over giving a garbled version of events.

What the father said early on in the video is that when he tried to discuss alternative treatment outside the UK the staff threatened him with obtaining a protection order for his son, and that was the last straw which made hime decide to remove him from the hospital.

I tend to believe the father's statement, which seems to have been completely ignored in all the discussions.

The fact remains that no crime has been commited, but the parents are in jail and the child is only visited by his brother only when he pleads with the hospital authorities. Fortunately he can speak some Spanish.

Nomoss, I have been following this case from the early stages and it's bothered me greatly.

There is only one small point where I hope you are right and my information is wrong.  I read in the Telegraph today that no family member is allowed to see the child without judicial permission and that no judicial permission has so far been given.

I do hope the eldest son has been able to visit and is able to comfort his other siblings.  Perhaps he could give his parents messages too through their own lawyer.

I never thought to feel such sadness about a family I have only heard of through the media but, there it is, some things just grab you by the throat and you find yourself suddenly caring very much indeed.

The CPS is considering whether they should drop the case. hmm let me see, no grounds for arrest as no neglect, UK could be more guilty of neglect by not providing this service whilst the EU can and we are in the EU.

Hospital in Prague, Czech Republic is ready and willing to treat Ashya and work out the bill later on. At least they know the meaning of care which Southampton doesn't so obtaining a ward of court as "specialist medical attention" was being carried out it seems isn't that special compared to other countries. Shameful behavior from the UK.

It may well be RH but only within the constraints of what it can provide, the world is now a much smaller place and it takes only a few minutes to find out that better treatment in this case can be obtained elsewhere and then some jobsworths decide it was not for Ashya so the parents voted with their feet. The whole episode is just embarrassing and almost certainly more costly than the treatment would have been.  Let alone the stress it has caused.

It seems as if they had thought it was appropriate they could have provided it, certainly other places have, so now we'll have to wait and see if it is truly because of the 'postcode lottery' or if there were other medical reasons that made the specialists think it was inappropriate and how communication with the parents broke down.

In the meantime it seems that the little boy is still alone in a Spanish hospital....[:(]
One just hopes that the little boy will survive this ihhuman treatment by the Spanish hospital.
I would be very surprised if the hospital has any room for movement. The case against the parents is for neglect (allegedly) which I feel sure will cover abuse once translated into Spanish. Hence protection of the child would exclude family members who could be complicit.

The villain is not the hospital, it is someone in the UK. We will probably never find out who and even if we do I think we can be sure they will be free to repeat the debacle in the future.

Meanwhile, can I plead with EVERYONE who agrees that the child and parents should be re-united, to PLEASE sign the petition so ably provided by Pommier and on Page 4 of this thread?

The man behind the organisation of the petition is going to be taking it to Downing Street, I think this afternoon, so the more signatures he has, the better, one hopes.

Time could be critically short for all of us to have our say, however small our individual voice might be.

The main thing is that hopefully Asher will receive good medical care, but also be returned to the care of his loving family.

What worries me the most about this case is the apparent erosion of the legal rights of parents to decide what's best for their child. All this sensationalism about child abuse seems to have made the "authorities" extra cautious.

It now seems that common sense has prevailed.

Neglect translates to negligencia or abandono.

Abuse is abuso, as different in Spanish from neglect as it is in English.

In any case, according to the BBC report from the UK Court, the parents were charged with cruelty.
