1. Will he be telling us about the 'conditions, citizenship or residency' which the Guarantee Fund doesn't appear to know about.....?
2. ......and as three year old cars, they will meet EU type approval so there'll be no problem obtaining EU certificates of conformity for them. Don't forget, you'll be liable to the eco-malus which is due on cars first registered abroad from 2008 onwards and which are being registered in France for the first time. You can find their CO2 emissions value from the official ADEME Enviroment Agency website Once you have that, you can use this handy calculator to work out the overall cost of your carte grise. Do it whilst you're sitting down.......[:-))]
3. The insurance company will appoint an expert to examine the car and provide an estimate of the cost of repairs.  If the cost is acceptable, the insurer will instruct the repairer to proceed with the repair. If the cost of the repair exceeds the Argus value of the vehicle, the insurer will write it off.  If so, then they must make you a total loss offer within fifteen days of receiving the expert's report.  You then have thirty days in which to accept or reject the insurer's offer. The variable in this time scale is the time it takes for the expert to organise his visit to the repairer to examine the car. Note that if you have any recent high value receipts for work done on the car, then if you pass them to the expert, he will adjust his valuation upwards to take the 'improvements' into account.  In the case of my own accident, I had recent receipts for a new set of tyres and a replacement turbo and the repairer's receptionist told me to drop them in to her and she'd make sure the expert got them.
4. STOP in Nigerian means 'Here's my PIN number'..... I'd be inclined to ignore it.
5. Bilingual example of a constat amiable: http://www.naccess.fr/objects/custom/public/21/FILE-a9b0e6ff0fe2a0c1f8de61f381e43b63.pdf
6. Check out this useful guide to completion of the form ESA 50 as part of the Work Capability Assessment: http://www.nawra.org.uk/Documents/Cardiff_Mar_10/Fit%20for%20Purpose%20%20A%20Guide%20to%20Completing%20the%20ESA50.pdf. It has been written as a guide for workers such as support workers, social workers or other professionals to refer to when completing the form with clients, but will also be useful if you are completing the form for yourself.

Fireworks

Our SuperU had boxes of fireworks on sale for the Fête de St Jean.  If you're thinking of 5th of November, I don't think it is celebrated over here.
8. Your GAN policy is marketed as Complémentaire Santé which is a top-up insurance, also commonly known as a 'mutuelle'. Your current policy covers you for up to 100% of the standard tariff plus an additional margin of 40% to cover any dépassements.  As most treatment providers tend to be conventionnée, you could opt to reduce your cover to 100% and fund any occasional dépassement out of your own pocket. We are insured with Groupama with 130% cover and apart from having to pay part of a dental bill this year, we've never had to pay anything to obtain treatment.
9. " changes to cgt tax on second homes........would not affect sales of British properties of French residents". Difficult to comment on a truncated quote.  What wording was replaced by the ..........?
10. The EU type approval number is shown under section K of the V5C. However, I've just done a quick search and according to MCN, production of the Moto 6.5 ceased in 2002.  That means it probably doesn't have EU type approval therefore there'll be no e* number on the V5C. If this is the case, then it's back to Aprilia.....
11. One of our favourite areas for holidays is the Vosges and we always have a day trip across to Freiburg im Breisgau which is a delightful university town in the Black Forest.  However, it now has an emissions restricted Umweltzone in the town centre which has effectively barred us from visiting the town in our old diesel camping car.  Having since sold the camper, we now have a DPF equipped Mercedes Benz which is Euro 4 compliant and I can obtain a green E4 windscreen vignette from Dekra France which will allow me to drive into the town without penalty.
12. The certificate of conformity that Aprilia will give you confirms that your particular motorcycle with VIN number XXXXXXXX conforms to EU technical regulations.  A copy of a certificate relating to someone else's motorcycle is useless.
13. If I remember correctly, the 5€ per day HyperU Panda is based on a long term contract hire agreement, not a daily/weekly rental.....[:(]
14. I think it does, Andy. It's the familiar case of people not realising their property tax liability arises as of 1 January.  They think the bill that arrives in the autumn (ie, for the current year) is for next year's taxes.
15. As always, you should complain in the first instance to the company who sold you the equipment. However, you may wish to check your actual EDF contract - their website indicates a contract for energie photovoltaïque is reimbursed at a rate of 30 c€/kWh, + prime d'intégration au bâti de 25 c€/kWh.  No mention of any price differential between a 3kw and a 4kw system. As regards liability for income tax, the Impots issued a rescrit (n°2007/20 du 29/05/2007) aimed at producers: http://impot-service.blogspot.com/2007/06/rescrit-situation-fiscale-des.html
16. Blimey, a bit of Outer Limits going on here with this resurrected thread.....[:-))] My engine diagnostic warning light came on last night just as I was putting the car in the garage, so this morning I popped into our local Mercedes concessionnaire to ask them to have a look at it.  Told to drive it straight into the diagnostic bay, Patrick the technician standing by to plug in the diagnostic computer. After downloading all the car's system reports, it appeared that it was either the diesel particulate filter which was clogged or its little pressure sensor which has gone   Patrick then regenerated the filter via the computer and the light went off.  Touch wood that cures it.  Asked them how much to pay - nothing....[:D] Mrs Sunday has since been down to SuperU to pick up some stuff - you've guessed it, the light is back on.  Looks like it's going to be back in for a new sensor......
17. All explained by the tax office here: Vous êtes propriétaire de votre résidence principale ? Savez-vous que, sous certaines conditions, vous pouvez être exonéré de taxe foncière ?
18. I think you'll find your abattement personne invalide based on your work accident is a reduction against your income tax. In order to obtain reductions/exemptions against tax fonciere, you need to be in receipt of l'allocation aux adultes handicapés which is a different benefit altogether.
19. If your son has a medical condition which affects his mobility, then your GP will be able to issue an ordnance for the supply of a wheelchair without cost to you.  Your pharmacie won't actually keep stocks of wheelchairs themselves but will order one from a medical equipment leasing company.  If you explain his situation, they will offer him the chair most appropriate to his needs. When Mrs Sunday broke her ankle in our car accident, she was prescribed a wheelchair for six weeks and when we explained to our pharmacie that arthritis in her wrists would make it difficult for her to wheel a heavy chair herself , they came up with a neat lightweight model.  When it arrived, one of the pharmacie girls popped the chair in the boot of her Twingo and delivered it to us in her lunch hour.....
20. http://www.peche86.fr/federation-de-la-vienne.html La Carte Personne Majeure entitles you to fish on sites which are part of the Vienne federation. La Carte Interfédérale Majeur entitles you to fish on sites in neighbouring federations. Vienne is a member of the l’Union Régionale des Fédérations des régions Centre-Poitou-Charentes, so you'd have loads of choice with their Interfédérale card. You can buy your carte de pêche on-line here: http://carte-de-peche-ehgo.fr/index
21. If your friend occupies the property as his principal residence, then he will have no capital gains tax liability upon sale.
22. Only applies to red VFRs, Sid.....[:P] It's all about the pollution free urban zones that they are planning to introduce like they have in Germany.  They are looking at a three year trial project involving nine cities where vehicles will have to be Euro emissions compliant in order to enter the zone. http://www.developpement-durable.gouv.fr/spip.php?page=article&id_article=22322 Clearly a bit of an over-reaction on the part of MAG......
23.
This is the only time of the year when a crime is committed!!!
Perhaps you'd be better off writing to Hercule Poirot rather than the maire.....[:P]
24. Just to clarify the situation, the Place at L'Absie consists of municipal gardens and a large public car park and is bounded on two sides by public streets.  The properties on the remaining two sides of the Place (where Wiggy's house is situated) have no vehicular access other than via the public car park.  As per PPP, the maire will have issued the arrêté municipal closing off the car park for the duration of the fair. Best approach would be to get all the affected residents together to submit a joint complaint to the maire.
25. Not sure about your interpretation of the OP's intentions.....
For the foreseeable future we are planning to base it in our house in Pezenas and use it for our, and family visits.......
Seems like he was looking to take the car across to leave at his 'holiday home' in France and get it registered and French insured...[;-)]
