1.
WBB: Can you paraphrase the Le Monde article for those of us whose French isn't on a par with yours?
If you open the link then right click the mouse somewhere on the page. Then choose "Page info" and then "Translate page into English" Google will give you a reasonable gist of the text

Ice Crushers
Anybody seen any? I've looked in Carrefour, Geant, Darty etc but can't find one.  I'm looking for a table top on by the way not an industrial boozer size one!
Try a search on Broyeur à Glace.
3. I think Quillan wanted a 12v tyre inflator + digital gauge the link looks to be for digital pressure testers only. Have a look HERE
4. This website will give you an idea of whats available and a price guide. BATTERIES
5. Why don't you try the Citroen agent in Duras? or you could ask "Roady" at Miramont De Guyenne to order one for you.
6. Tyron bands They do work, I have seen them twice in action fitted to an heavy caravan and with a blowout on the motorway at around 55/60 miles an hour the tyres stayed on the rim, unfortunately, the tyre depots in France or Spain had no idea what they were, replaced the tyres and gave back the Tyron Bands,
7. I guess by asking about the waste pipes, that it is a shower enclosure/tray that you have bought?
8. The property would have to be completely unfurnished and you would need to convince the Mairie, that it was uninhabitable on January 1st 2009, if you can do that, then you would not have to pay the Taxe d'habitation. I think that having water/electricity walls and a roof and the fact that someone has recently been living there, you could have difficulty persuading them otherwise. Although I have heard that some people get away with just showing it was unfurnished on Jan 1st, as normal in France it all depends on the day. If the property is so lacking in basic amenities then I would guess that the Tax would be very low anyway.
9.
Sorry but my french is not good enough to read the link Clare.  I too need french mobile phones, my daughter has told me that it would be better to get a sim contract in france and buy a cheap phone in UK as phones in France are very expensive.  I don't know how true this is and would appreciate any input.
To put it simply. 1: You can buy a Sim card for €15 put it your own phone and that's it. 2: Buy a Sim card + €50 credit and only pay €50 (making the Sim card free). 3: Buy the Sim card + €50 credit + phone for €65 (if you don't want the standard phone as supplied) you can get €30 off a phone of your choice instead. Take all your paperwork (proof of residence identity etc.) with you when you go to Leclerc and register the Sim card straight away, very simple. If you have a mobile phone already you can keep your old number full details on the website. If you make a top up within 12 months all your credit is carried forward for another 12 months. I hope I haven't missed anything.
10.
I have been trying to use this potentially useful program, but I have found that it uses feet and inches[:-))] Has anyone used it and if so is it possible to change it to metric? I have tried but as yet have been unable to find where!!
On the menu go to Window then Preferences.
11.
You can check on your points HERE  If you had somehow unknowingly lost all your points then surely you would be driving 'sans permis' and if that were so I think I'd want to know it rather than find out the hard way [:-))]
Didn't you like my link to the Telepoints site then Ernie?[:)]
12. You can check your points here. I seem to remember that if you have only lost one point in a year then after 12 months it's returned to your licence. As you are not a french resident, at this time your foreign licence can not show any french points but that may not stop the gendarms knocking on your door one day.
13. You don't get a reduction just because you are a "Senior Citizen" it's possible that if your income as reported on your tax return is below a certain figure, then you could get an automatic reduction for this years Taxe D'habitation.
14.

I drive on a EU one....
What is an 'EU' licence [8-)]
A Republic of Cyprus licence would be valid to drive in the EU and therefore could be classed as an EU licence.

18. Atlantic are big players in the electric water heating market, I don't know about that particular model.
19. I have sent you a PM, If you require any further info just ask.
20. You can get your sprigs and sprogs here.http://www.thefreedictionary.com/sprog
21.  You will have a meeting just before hand over day and you will be able to go around the property with the clerk of works and detail all the faults for them to rectify, you don't need to sign the final document and pay the last stage payment until you are satisfied. You say it's a national company, I would be interested to know their name, by PM of course[:D]
22.
Thanks very much for your comments and reassurance. There is a chimney poking out of the roof. I presume we will get the "Notice Descripive" when the house is handed over but I shall ask the builder for a copy of that now. Another concern is the general standard of the finish. We wanted to paint the place ourselves so they builder agreed to hand the place over "ready to paint". We reckon we have a couple of weeks of rubbing down before we get to the "ready to paint" stage but we cannot get the builders to accept that our concerns are anything other than a culture difference between what the British expect and what the French would accept. I mean the tiles in the bathroom end with just the raw tile edges.
You should have had the Notice Descriptive at the very start of the build (and signed it) It describes every single process of the build and materials to be used, how were you able to check the specs without it? "Ready to paint" is a joke.[:)]
23. You should have in your "Notice Descriptive" under Conduite de Fumee, the full details of the chimney and associated pipework.
