1.
Thanks Anton, I'm sure that if I don't produce the old Process Verbal the next (different) tester will not find the same fault on the Camping Car - since I'm sure it doesn't exist! The other interesting one is on the RHD car - the rear fog light is on the wrong side for France, and I was expecting to have to change it. Only an advisory here but an MoT fail for LHD vehices imported to the UK! Thanks again
It's not a failure in France for the CT, but you really need to change it, or put another one on the LHS for your own safety.
2.
Quick question for gosub. This R43, it's not a full blown tax assessment is it?  Not a whole booklet? Lord, why does everything have to be so taxing? (sorry for the pun, which isn't even original)
It;s simple to fill in, you can see HERE last years form to give you an idea,
3.
There's a special form, Ron (it changes each year).  Mine is at home on my desk so can't get the number in short order but no doubt somebody else knows.
We have done this many times before. R43[:)]
4.
Not sure why the rights of preemption would be a problem - it's a standard option in any sale of French property and one that is rarely exercised.
If the property was on sale for a "paltry sum" the Mairie would snap it up.
5. I think it is unusual, normaly  property owners organise their own trench for the EDF Gaine and supply cable. You would need an electrician to connect the supply at both ends, because EDF will require a certificate before they will connect you to the mains.
6. You can copy or print this off and make your own board. Panneau
7. You can get an idea of the cost of one in plastic. bac a graisse
8. If you are registered for online banking, NW will probably send a card reader to the UK address you used, when you opened the account.
9. Although you can buy batteries in places like Leclerc, I think you should go to someone like "Roady" or "Feu Vert" and have the battery supplied and fitted. HERE is a link to a site in the UK, to give you an idea of costs there, I would expect to pay more in France.
10.
Thanks, are there local branches or is this a big one in Paris? And will I have to actually go there, or post it to them? More advice, please./
Some info here with addresses, HERE
11.
A French keyboard is no help if you are a touch typist!  [:@]
It does if you are a French touch typist.[:)]
12.
Hi Clair, thanks for coming back (I had done a search previously and not found the answer).  No, you can't send a text, I've tried sending a text to 950.. (whats the (3) part mean??) and it just states "Failed".   With Orange pay as you go, its just a case of doing #123# and the balance comes on your screen.     Doing the same procedure with Leclerc using 950, I got nothing. EDIT to say.... I've just tried putting a message of "credit?" and sent it via text to 950, 4 minutes after I've got the answer!!!  It can't be free, its cost me 39 cents!
Send a blank text.
13. "Its a long journey, but I have an economical fridge/freezer van that can carry quite a lot. Given the low pound value, assuming I used my French earned money, I believe there would be a decent saving to be made. Hopefully I will be back to UK for a few days early this year, so I will make an effort to work out things, and find out the prices of various shopping items for comparison to here." You can do a bit of homework before you go. SUPERMARKET
14. From Bm's post. Certificates of Conformity A Certificate of Conformity (Certificat de Conformité) should be obtained after a gas-appliance installation, though this does not apply to single bottle installations with flexible tube connections to a single appliance such as a cooker, some water heaters and direct replacement of valves and flexible tubes. Gas Diagnostic Certificate A Gas Diagnostic Certificate (Un état de l'installation intérieure de gaz naturel), which is different from a Certificate of Conformity, must be produced when selling a property. The Gas Diagnostic Certificate is an inspection report of a property's gas system and lists any items not in compliance with regulations. When selling a home, the certificate must be less than one year old.
15.
Cant argue with the sheer commonsense of the regs as posted by BigMac, but in practice??? We have been here for nearly two years now, but inspite of having the equivalent of a HIPS inspection with the house, no mention of a gas certificate was ever made. We have Propane in a monster tank in the Garden and a maintenance contract from Primagaz, our supplier. They have been here once on an annual inspection, but only checked "their" tank and didnt set foot in the house. So just where do these "regs" fit in? Is this another "depends on the Departement" sort of thing?   BobD
The gas certificate is only required if you are connected to mains gas, AFAIK
16.
Marcopa, I've always used IE (& Google!) too, for exactly the same reasons as you. However on reading the article (link in OPs post), where Trend Micro (amongst others) recommend using an alternative browser until Microsoft come up with a security patch, I've downloaded Firefox and will use it until a patch for IE is forthcoming.
I am sure that after getting used to Firefox you won't go back to IE, try "speed dial" a download for firefox.
17. I think it's worth bringing this useful link back to the surface, originally posted by Baz. Connection Wizard
18. I made a pump from an old brake master cylinder and a brake pedal, then measured the distance from the centre of the wheel to the wheel arch, to know when to stop pumping.
19.
However if the hob is purchased in France the supplier will want to register you in order that an inspection of the installation may be made. Connect yourself at your peril .
I bought my last gas hob, in France and fitted it myself, still waiting for the knock on the door.
20.
I think the 35m rule applies only if the well is actively used for drinking water
I think also if used for any other purpose inside the house, toilets, washing machine etc.
21. By the way if anyone is interested it seems you can get pension credit as long as you are over 60, and even if you are not in receipt of a state pension. That's what I was told anyway so my application is on it's way. If you are not a UK resident then I don't think it applies to you.
22. You were in the system in the cut off period November 2007.  I don't see any problem with continuing with CPAM/CMU. You will need to get the usual form from Newcastle, to say you are no longer entitled to a E106, then submit that to CPAM with all the rest of the documents they require, lots of info on this forum.
23. I use Telerabais for most of my calls in France and to the UK but for some reason, calls to a mobile in Switzerland are very expensive. MOBILE
24. If the plumber has not done any extras then No, a Devis is a contract when signed and accepted.
