1. chocccie.  I'm working with CS2 so I have to guess a bit how Elements handles this but..... As for the missing toolbar... Go to "Window" >> and ensure Options is ticked.  If it has become unticked then that toolbar will disappear. If that fixes the toolbar problem, make sure that you have none of the preset crops selected. The easiest way to do this is hit "Clear" at the righthand end of that toolbar. Don't know if that will help or not but that would (should) fix it in CS2.
2.
Mr Thomas, not you!  I mean, who says "you be here"?  I just don't think it's helpful to try to translate something by using English that isn't English! Profuse applogies if I appeared to be referring to you.[:$]
Sorry. I was being too sensitive.
3. "For a quick example, just look at Michel Thomas's explanation above - unhelpful at best, utter r*bbish at worst!" Just to be clear here... is that comment directed at my input or Michel Thomas.
4. "Je souhait que vous soyez ici." Pads.  If remember my Michel Thomas correctly.... The "vous soyez ici" actually means "you be here".
5. There seems to be zero confidence that the slide will stop. In conversation with one of the specialist curency conversion companies today they were talking in terms of  getting no better than 1.22/1.23 for money forward booked for about 3 months time.  As far as our potential house purchase that may just about kill off the idea.
6. Thanks for all your answers. I guess there are some conflicting views on this and I'll need do some more research. The cubic capacity of the actual room with the fire is going to be in the region of 55 x 2.4 = 132 cubic metres. So it appears that the woodburner I'm looking at should be sufficient and not underpowered. Whether it is overpowered is now perhaps the question? Just little more information... the house is in the Lot a bit south of  Labastide Murat and at an altitude of around 370 metres.
7. I never thought I'd ever say this but.... Well done Wales, thoroughly deserved!
8. Thanks a lot Anton. Yes, that how I'd worked it but I wasn't sure whether I should be taking into account the total house area or just that of the room it will be installed in.  I agree that the stated output is going to be under optimal conditions. Thanks again.
9. We are looking at suitable woodburners to install in a new home. The 2 storey house is double glazed and appears to have good wall insulation. The room has underfloor electic heating and the other rooms in the house have electric radiators. The actual room it will be installed in is around 55 sq metres and I believe the ceiling height is around 2.4 metres. The total house area is 125 sq metres. The Godin woodburner we are considering is rated at 11.5Kw. I've seen calculations that suggest "With a head room of 2.4 meters you will need 60 to 70 watt per sqm." Does that mean that the 11.5Kw would be a massive overkill or should I be considering the total area of the house, not just the room it will be installed in? We want this fire (or similar) for both heat and ambiance and the look of it as well. Thanks for any advice.
10. When we left for France just over a week ago we were transferred from Sea France to P&O due to the Sea France strike. We arrived at Calais yesterday afternoon after a pretty windy drive up from our overnight stop at Orleans and were transferred from Sea France to the Channel Tunnel. I don't know what would have happened if we had been booked with P&O and whether we would have been given a  free transfer to the tunnel? Yesterday certainly wasn't a great day for driving though and the conditions on the M25 were pretty terrible at times.
11. Thanks for the warning about the scameras Anton.
12. Just an update on this.  The Sea France strike is still on and will go on until at least Monday from what I've been told by them. We've been told to turn up and book in through the Sea France lanes at Dover and we will get put on another operators ship. Let's hope it works that way. looks like we need to find another route down as well, probably M25, M20 then across on the A249 to the M2 and into Dover that way. Any better ideas? Wish us luck [8-)]
13.
If someone gave me a Hardly Davison experience, I would think that they don't like me! Everyone to their own I suppose.
Hey Bob.... they can be kind of fun. I had one a few bikes ago and in the right place, the right weather and in the right mood they can be kind of fun. I believe the new ones even have brakes now [:D](sadly mine didn't)! [:'(] I'd consider getting another one even if just for the noise.[8-|]
14. Oh joy unbounded [:(]   We are due to take a Sea France ferry from Dover on Sunday morning. I've just called them and of course, they don't know what the situation will be by then. One of the aspects of France I find less appealing.[6] Thanks for the heads up though... I hadn't heard about this.
15. I'd put pride behind me with these guys... they can cause you a lot more pain than you can ever cause them.
16. Hi Weedon. I absolutely agree 100%.  This morning I went out and bought 3 CDs - the Highwaymen Collection, The Best of Willie Nelson, and Classic Allman Brothers. The City of New Orleans is on the Willie Nelson compo... one of my favourite all time songs. Very evocative of the US which I love btw.... always stirs the emotions a bit. The one thing I miss about being retired is that I don't get to go to the US every couple of months.  Oh, and yes, you wouldn't want to be with me in the car with that tracking... I certainly sing along, although sing might not be the right word.[:)] Anyway, the combination of these 3 new CDs got me through waxing a load of new doors! [8-|]
17. Although I've always been Johnnie Cash fan (especially his "American" series) I wasn't aware of the Highwaymen.... Johnnie Cash, Willie Nelson, Waylon Jennings and Kris Kristofferson and heard the track Highwayman for the first time yesterday... went out and bought the CD today. Brilliant stuff IMO.
18. We never felt a thing but we got told about it just after 1:00 by our son phoning (waking us up) from Lincoln to see if we were OK. That horrible feeling when you get a late call you aren't expecting and hearing his voice... what had gone wrong, what disaster had struck? Couldn't get back to sleep after.
19. Thanks for the warning. Thankfully we travel out of Dover this coming Sunday (2nd) so just miss it... but I guess we'll have the joys of it on our return.[:(]
20.
There is indeed a tax bill to be paid by the surviving party of a Tontine. The exemption from inheritance tax was removed by the 1980 budget (Article 69 de la loi n°80-50 du 18 janvier 1980) by amendment to the Code Général des Impôts (article 754-A). Only property which is the principal residence of the parties is exempt from tax, and then only if is worth less than 500,000FF (now €76,000). This exemption ceiling has never been altered.
This is consistent with what we were told and is supported by several website searches including this one. The only difference appears to be that there is a further uplift of €50k with the allowances depending on the circumstances. I'm not putting this forward as the definitive source of information but it seems to be born out by other sites if you google "Tontine inheritance".
21. Ron.  The deal wasn't that I used that particular notaire to take out the régime de communauté universelle  but that simply that was the recommendation to acheive what we required from an inheritance perspective and that we should do that with the "business as usual" French based notaire who would be handling the purchase. The UK based notaire was used by us to provide us with guidance on not just this topic but far more wide ranging aspects of buying a house in France. The person in question is/was qualified as a notaire and is French but now lives in the UK.
22. You may want to read this. This relates to the régime de communauté universelle with the clause d’attribution intégrale. This is what we were advised to do by the UK based French notaire we consulted prior to starting the house buying search. You will see reference to the situation regarding children form any previous marriage. Now at this stage we haven't actually found a house so I can't comment with knowledge of actually having it in process.
23. On holiday in India last November we visited the Mehrangarh Fort in Jodhpur. I was just coming out into a courtyard from one of the museums but happened to look back over my shoulder. The long and the short of it is that I met up again with an old friend from before I retired from IBM. He was based in Sydney and we used to meet at international meeting and various conference calls. He is originaly from India and was on holiday there with his wife..... what are the odds of that?
24. Stick a front wheel on it plus a lawnmower engine and you've got a tuk-tuk.
25. Which reminds me of  this from Mr Harry Enfield Puts helmet on and ducks out of the way of incoming fire[:-))]
