1. French sized HEP2O available here http://www.realheating.com/?lng=en they will deliver. Simon
2. The 22 mm Hep will fit the french 22 mm copper, so you can move onto UK size 15 mm via that route, having said that you can get the french sizes here in France so why bother.
3. I have read through the FAQ, very helpful, but I still have a few queries. Firstly, condensing boilers are more effiecient, and I am surprised that they are not found in France.  Is that still the case, or are the FAQs out of date?  Secondly, I am confused by the differences in the fuel types, there seems to be 28 or kerosene that is used in the UK but rare in France, then we have 32 or fioul, and lastly 35 or Mazout.  The latter 2 are from what I can glean from the posts here less efficient than 28, and run dirtier that I assume leads to an unhappy life constantly cleaning out burners?  Can anyone help me out and give me some advice on what system will give me a trouble free and efficient running?  I don't want to get bogged down in sizing the job and looking at alternatives, I just want some general information on what is available.  If I was in the UK I would be buying an external condensing oil boiler using kerosene, can I get something simular here? regards Simon
4. What's wrong with the little devil traps you get at brico for a couple of euros, very effective, very cheap. Simon
5. The netgear router replaces the modem, you do not need both. Simon
6. The trouble with having RJ45 as a standard is that if you connect your pc lan card to the phone socket by accident it will not like the 60v when it rings.  RJ11 is fine for phones, and is the standard in many countries.  I appeciate that you can run multiple services through RJ45, and in industrial applications that is fine as sys admins know what they are doing, the average householder however does not. Regards Simon
7. Would something like this not work best? Simon
8. I spotted this fellow in the garden this morning, it is the first one we have seen.  For those who don't know it is a European Green Lizard, which is a very lazy name for something. Simon
9. Does your DVD have new firmware available from the Phillips website, this can solve many compatibility issues. Simon
10. Reading the info, you are on wired only, your PC has an address of 192.168.2.2 picked up from the dhcp on the router 192.168.2.1 which is also used as the source for dns.  That is all as it should be, and as you are not wireless then that is a red herring, and suggests your issues lie elsewhere, probably with the build on your pc.  Try working through this article and see if that helps, and you might want to get the firmware on the router and modem updated - try the manufaturers website for the updates. Simon
11. Yes posting here is OK, you won't give anything like a password away, and most routers use a standard set of IP addresses for their dhcp, and if you have not changed it then anyone would guess anyway. Simon
12. Try holding down the windows key, normally second in from the left on the bottom of your keyboard, and then press r.  That should call up the run option.  Type cmd and press OK and you will have a black dos box.  ipconfig is a useful diagnostic tool and you can see all it does by calling up its help option by typing ipconfig /? Note the space between ipconfig and the /.  The option I suggest you use is ipconfig /all and then post the results here for the chaps to inspect. Simon
13. I have mixed feelings on this, very sorry to see people put out of work though, a pity it was not all settled in advance of the store opening.  I like the convenience of Sunday shopping, but one of the reasons I like France is its attitude to the family and the work-life balance. Simon
14.
I'm switching broadband provider, and sending a letter recommandée + AR to Orange in Bordeaux. Anyone any idea how long they take to cancel an account? I know they'll want the Livebox back, but I want the overlap with providers to be as short as possible... Cheers, matey peeps. [:D]
What address are you writing to, and what details have they requested that you send; it will save me a phone call. Regards Simon
15. Birdsong, Sebastian Faulks Atonement, Ian McEwan Lolita, Nabokov All brilliant.
16. 15mm is not found here, so buy the french equivilent, though I have found 22mm copper much cheaper in the UK.  If you are using speedfit fittings, why not use that right through, it is quicker and works out less expensive due to not requiring so many joints?  I personally favour Hep2o, which you can get in most of the big plumbing firms; you can get 16mm for use here too. Simon
17. 22mm Hep2O and fittings, paint obviously, copper pipe and fittings, LAN equipment, lights, I did get my kitchen from the UK, but the french equivelents at the time were dearer, 2 shower units, though those were bought via eBay and came from Germany, oak wood flooring which was much cheaper via the web in the UK and I despise laminate. The other way has gone an entire bathroom suite, a set of french doors, a new back door, and a heated towel rail. Regards Simon
18. Bought a couple from Leroy-Merlin, €11 each, not too bad, and they seem to be good quality.  2 boards up, many more to go... Thanks to all Simon
19. Thanks Clair, that is really helpful. Simon
20. I've given up trying to plasterboard the ceiling without assistance, does anyone know the french for plasterboard adjustable prop and where I can get a pair? Regards Simon
21. Yes 8 mbps equates to about 1 MB per sec, there being 8 bits in a byte. Simon
22. I'm cream crackered and off to bed...
23. I don't know anything about Volvo's I'm afraid, but these people do, try posting here. Regards Simon
24. Much as I like Earl Grey, why is it that French supermarkets have a choice of 10 different sorts of EG and that's about it, bring on the Lapsang Souchong? Simon
25.
Thanks for the responses I had thought about an independent email address but I wasn't sure how to go about it and if I could open it in Outlook.  I have a hotmail address which I use on occasion for certain reasons but I much prefer using Outlook. Could I open gmail in Outlook? Lynpy
You can use 1&1 via outlook, and it is only £8.20 per year. Simon
