2. I am a member of a garden club with French ,English and Dutch members who are holding a FREE exchange of plants, garden tools etc. and the entry is  free as well .![I] There is a free animation and  painting competition for youg children,,a tombola and buvette. Other exhibiters will be selling plants  of all kinds. It is open all day and we welcome visiters to find out about our club and visits to private and members gardens. We have a monthly meeting with demonstations and discussions and translate into the 3 languages. With the falling exchange rate this free fete  may help some of our readers.
3. If you can hang on then watch the daily decreases/increases of euro rate and buy when it is better. Naturally if you need the funds soon then there is nothing you can do about the rate you obtain. No one has yet advised on companies to use and this would be a goodtime for other forum members to advise as we are all in this mess together. p.s. if you live here  and have a garden now is the time to start growing your own veg. to help your budget. [:)]
4. Where it is necessary to burn some waste then leave it to do once a year, say June when it will have dried out and burn more efficiently with less smoke and carbon drifting around . This also helps animal life and possible hibernating hedgehogs etc.,otherwise compost as much as possible.
5. WELL in below 10centigrade you will not need to stop any algae as i beeive it needs higher temperatures. Did you winterise pool i.e. adjust ph cl and salt level before covering??? I also live in Limousin -so happy ice-skating this weekend as snow is about-although  not too much if you are below 300metres> depends on the area as we are a very large region.
6. perhaps-but English living  in France on uk pensions may be going back.!!!!!!!!
7. Do you have any manualsfor the pool and equipment or have you bought property with pool and are trying to sort things out?As poolguy said there are different types -what is your salt electrolser calledetc.??
8. I had a garage with a rough  concrete floor  converted to a bedroom 7 years ago-area23sq.metres by an english  self trained builder. I WAS VERY SURPRISED WHEN HE SAID HE WOULD LEVEL IT WITH EPOXY TWO PACK ,  AS I WAS A  PAINT CHEMIST IN UK AND FORMULATED THESE PRODUCTS WHICH WERE NOT ON SALE TO THE GENERAL PUBLIC. He made an excellent job so gluestick reommendation of  a screed and when dried out the appliation of self levelling epoxy would be the best long term solution as no fear of breakdownetc.
9. YOU BUY A BOX OF STRIPS ABOUT5CM. LONG AND IMMERSE THE END IN A SAMPLE OF SALT WATER AND LEAVE 3-5MINUTES WHEN A COLOUR CHANGE OCCURS AND YOU HAVE A REAA-DING WHICH THE BOX INFORMATION WILL GIVE YOU THE AMOUNT OF SALT PRESENT. TEST DE SALINITY IS NAME AND ABOUT 15EURO. NEED 3900-4200PPM OR 3.9-4.2KG.CUBIC METRE OF WATER.
10. WE USE it each year to and from Limoges and have tried many other routes over the last 30 years and find the 104 overall the best despite being slightly more km(about 40) than the direct route through Paris areas. When you leave after charles de gaul airport there are the few tricky problems of switching lanes but the last few years there has been  an improvement in the roads making up this 104,and no one knows when a shunt or build up occurs but at least it is free dualcarriageway and if you make a mistake then with a bit of map reading you can return to the route. If you can afford a navigation system then it helps but even these can give you errors. Returning northwards is a little easier as I follow signs to Lille/Rhiems then eventually only Lille to return to the A1.   P.S. THE WORST SCENARIO IS YOU END UP IN MICKEY MOUSE COUNTRY.!!!OR YOU SEE SOME INTERESTING PARTS OF FRANCE. I once near centre of Paris was assisted by a passenger and ended up in a rubbish dump!!!!!this made the french workmen smile.[:D]
11. Depends on whether you are married and if so what income or pension the wife has as in france you are taxed on one  total which after deductions the remainder divided by 2 becomes taxable. the experts on the forum can help but need to know more and also if you have savings then interest is taxable. I presume the pension is a company one plus the government O.A.P. Also if you have a pension from government work --then this will still be taxed in uk.-e.g.teacher/armed forces etc.

14. Are the traders reliable and which one/s are recommended and do you sign up on line or initially by post. I cannot afford to loose a pension transfer. thanks.
15. Does anyone know the latest charges for economy ,euro and express methods  when having £sterling transferred to euros into a French bank account.? Last year it  was  £10 for economy transfer taking 4-5 days with a small fee equivalent to £2.20 for the French bank. thanks.
16. No money then they just send you to the guillitine and save the same person making an error again. !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It,s surprising how helpful some drivers behind you can be on an unmanned gate  in France or on QE11 Dartford crossing when your last £1 coin misses the bucket in the automatic lane!!!!!!!!!!! [:)]
17. I tried gardening by the moon but found it very lonely at night.!!!!!!!!!!!![:P] There are many gardeners and pepiniers who do this -so it must be a good idea.
18. Just try a high pressure hose as previosly mentioned e.g.Karcher or other type. If you do not have one they are about 64 euro and only need water and therefore no damage or expensive additives or abrasives required.
19. megs-which area are you in please-will look out tomorrow.
20. I WOULD SAY  you must have a very dry interior where you used the cheap water based product. Properly formulated acrylic wood primers can give excellent results but as a former paint chemist I would recommend not using short cuts especially with the first coat as any failure here naturally brings off the topcoats and is then a bigger loss than the saving by using cheap emulsion. I have recommended the best proceedures to clients world wide but have been guilty in my own house when I did not have the correct primer and used an emulsion as primer and a year later was face withh removing the areas which had not peeled off by themslves.!!!And my boss at home notices these things-help -and says would I like a haf cooked meal? if not d'ont do half a proper job!!!!!!!!![:$]
21. I would teach times tablea at home as the ability to use mental arithmatic is one of the most useful tools in life as especially when everyone uses calculaters and pressing by error the wrong key is not detected . you can always get a rough idea ofthe answer if you are good at mental arithmetic. never looked back since i gave up the slate and chalk when I was only 6years old!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.[:)][:P] Very useful in supermarkets when they give you a huge unexpected bill as youngster at till pressed wrong key .
22. It is  not available  in B/Q as it is a French product and Lasure is a trademarl i.e. like dulux is a product of ICI. Buy your products in France as if you have any problems then advice is easier and the products are designed generally for the hotter climates found here. The breathable products should last better as they allow moisture to come and go from the wood compared to what was available say 20 years ago.
23. THIS MUST BE THE FIRST CASE OF A VARNISHER DOING A VANISHING TRICK! Is the colour he applied darker than the colour he bought and do you know the brand name and colour?? You may get a friendly paint store to lend you there wooden colour charts so you can get a better idea by comparing each at home and then ask their advice. Failing that you could try some test patches on the reverse side of the shutters. It will not be too noticeable after some weathering whatever you do-otherwise you will have to sand off as much as possible down to bare wood.
24. We went from Coussac Conneval to Alicante but used autoroute  from France to Spain and although a few more km. we found it ok and drove in 2 days to south of Alicante. We have had a holiday in the Pyrennies near Andora but were thinking in case weather was bad to drive longer route. Returned same way fortunately as route via centre of     Spain had severe gales and snow in late march!!!!!!!!!!! RECOMMEND CHECK WEATHER BEFOREHAND..
25. another test
