try YMCA sites. They are not simply for the young. We have stayed in large well fitted rooms in Italy for 18 Euros per room per night. Make sure the ymca you contact has individual rooms as opposed to dormitories. Overall much cheaper than Gites or B+B. The good news is that more second homes will come onto the market as the recession bites which will result in greater bargains for the survivors or those about to move to FRance. Thus some one's bad news is anothers opportunity[;-)]
