  1. HD prices are falling in the UK.Our local Woolies is offering HD ready TV for a third of the price elsewhere.32" for £399.
  2. After seeing the French NewYear in,we suggested that the TV was turned on just before one o'clock to see the UK New Year.No Anglophobes that night.
  3. Most seafront car-parks have a two- metre barrier but most communes create a space further back from the front.
  4. Or see if someone in your area has a mercury barometer and set it to that.If it was set correctly in England it should not need adjustment.The pressure goes down with altitude but you do not adjust for it once set correctly.

JR's vat comment is nothing new;many years ago I built a kit car and when I went to register it I was given the option of registering it with an age-related number(now you just get a "Q") or registering it as a new car.I went the new car option and had to give the VAT inspector copies of all the receipts for the components plus an estimate of my time building it.He gave me a bill which I took to a VAT collector-different address(by 40 miles),paid it ,got receipt,back to DVLA and got tax  disc.

  14. Poitrine seems to be available in most supermarkets(smoked or unsmoked) but not always in the thickness you want.In a hypermarket near us(34)they sell packets of horrible pink stuff;they haven't bothered to translate the name-it's labelled "English Bacon".

  17. Ours(a long time ago)not only had to be drawn up by a "Commissioner for Oaths" but also had to be stamped by the "Foreign Office"(5 minute job in a room at the Passport office).
  18. There used to be a problem with getting"MPH" speedos for the UK,Renault did not make them but someone offered a stick-on label.There was never a RHD Twingo-could not even be converted due to lack of space in engine room.
  19. I've been with C/L now for 18 yrs. and have never had a bad experience;as to t/cheques at one time they credited them to me at the branch-now,they give me a receipt for them and a couple of days later I get a letter from the area office showing them credited to my account.
  20. They normally won't let you into the departure lounge till 30 mins. before flight whatever time you check in.
  21. So what's new?;I've seen the same house advertized in two agents in the UK at different prices-in fact,I bought it from the cheaper one.
  22. I've said it before,been with Credit Lyonnaise for eighteen years and have never had the slightest concern,tho' English speaking staff do come and go.
