  1. Thanks Hectorsdad for your very kind words about my mum. Regarding your first points, I think you are right about it adds to the entertainment of the trip. I do very much like BF and I think the staff that work on board are excellent. I used work closely with truckline (BF freight division) and the staff their were great to work with too. Overall it is a superb company. Anyway, maybe it is a new phenomena that I am spotting (being French) is due to Brexit šŸ¤ I have not been on ferries so much since the 90ā€™s.
  2. I get your point. But, I took my daughter to Camden Town last summer and there was a proper French Boulangerie. I told my daughter to go and order something but she had to order in French. Otherwise she pays. You know proper French that only French people speakā€¦..not Chancer French. French ! I wanted to see what would happen. It was a social experiment. They were obviously French born. Do you know what, they were quite miffed to be spoken to in the UK in French by a French person. It was like, you are in the UKā€¦.try and speak some English. I can speak English can you uhhh. I stepped in and spoke in English and then they got what was happening. I should grow up. Their croissants almande were better than those you can get in France. They were huge and very tasty.
  3. Its a reference to the TV comedy ā€˜Little Britainā€™. There is a sketch in the show where an openly gay bloke thinks he is the only ā€˜gayā€™ in the Welsh village where he lives. Then he finds out that half the village are gay too. But they are no proper gays as he says. The sketch often reminds me of Eymet or other such villages in the Dordogne. Im the only ā€˜totally immersedā€™ British person living in the village. Then they find out that half the people living in French village are British too. Yes but no butā€¦ā€¦.they are not as ā€˜immersedā€™ as me. They have not registered their UK car and donā€™t have a CSJ.
  4. I have no idea. An example, I got on the 08:00 boat in Portsmouth and rushed to get a coffee. The bloke being served at the front of the queue was trying to order a hot chocolate in French. The French woman serving had no idea what he was saying with his accent. But that did not stop him giving it a few goes. It went on for a while and the queue was building up. I felt like translating his French into English so the poor French woman could understand his French. Lol. I reckon it was Chancer šŸ˜… So yes, there are loads of British folk on these boats who pretend to be Frenchā€¦ā€¦in Portsmouth. It is very strange.
  5. I have only met maybe five British folk in France in 25 years. And they werenā€™t proper British. So I am still the only gay in village.
  6. Iā€™ve been doing the BF route quite a few times recently due to my mum being quite ill. Anyway, I people watch on the boat for the six god forsaken hours you have to be on it. Nothing else to do. It amazes me how many British on the boat pretend they are actually French. Sometimes quite embarrassingly. So are you British or French on BF ?
  7. Iā€™m torn on this one. Our doctor is fully booked from 8am-6pm four days a week. 30 mins appointment. Or maybe less. She fits in other appointments in between when if there is an emergency. Usually our family and others. So that is 10 hrs (minus 2 hrs for lunch) x 2 x 25 Euros Methinks that is 400 euros a day. She works four days. So that is 1600 euros per week. Or 6400 euros per month. I dunnoā€¦.she has less stress than those working in businesss firms in France. I can tell you. Btwā€¦ i love my doctorā€¦.she is very good.
  8. Hoddy was a great Mod on this forumā€¦ā€¦she did not take any nonsense. Rip Hoddy.
  9. Lots of scams in France ET. A day does not go by when we have an email for this that or the other to get money out of us. I had one last week for a supposed unpaid speeding fine. The link was correctā€¦.or it looked correct. But it was a scam. Nick P is correct for highlighting such things. Dangerous place is France. Keep on your toes my friends.
  10. Alexā€¦. You have a miserable life. You know that, we know that and everyone reading this thread knows that. You really need to get a grip and find a direction in your career. Posting crappy hidden links in random forums is not a job. Alexā€¦ open a gƬte in the Dordogne. It wont make any money and to be fair (like most) you will probably will go bankrupt. But hay, it is better than what you do now. Just saying.
  11. There is a place in Tours that repaired my OHā€™s knitting machine. It was a few years back. I guess they are still there. I can try and find the address if you are interested.
  12. Cajal is quite correct. It refers to Parallismā€¦.i.e the alignment of the wheels. Our wheels get out of alignment all the time due to pot holes, fecking speed humps..dead hedgehogs. No big deal except it will **** your tyres eventually.
  13. Yesā€¦it concerns Brtish who own property in France. But the new rules have nothing to do with British owning a property in France. The rules were not invented for them. There is a big wide world in France that extends beyond a few Brit peeps who own property in France. A big wide scary world. A very scary world. That is the point I am making. Sometimes I fink the British think the world revolves around them.
  14. Do you have a cave ? Or maybe it is the communial bin area ? Place where peeps keep their cycles ? We had all those in our last flat.
  15. I have driven that road hundreds of times as we have a family flat in Alpe du Huez. I find it so depressing. Especially Livet and Gavet. What hard life these people leadā€¦..mostly in the darkness. It was a tricky road in the ice and snow before they widened it.
  16. This has nothing to do with Brits, CDSā€™s or Brexit. LOL This is more to do with towns/cities across France (Baritiz is a good example) that are full of ā€˜Frenchā€™ second homes and all the problems it causes. Not contributing and pushing house prices in the area etc. This issue has been on the TV quite a lot recetly. No one is mentioning Brits. I think it is quite fair for owners of second homes to contrbute more. Same problem in the UK in Cornwall and other such places.
  17. The drive from Grenoble to Bourg dā€™oisans must have given you a fright. It is very grim.
  18. I had the same problem a month or so back when our satelite box blew up. I bought a replacement from Finland of all places. They spoke English, it arrived in two days and it was cheaper than the UK. I avoid buying anything from the UK to be sent across. If I need something I will go and get it. Well done Brexit. All that lost trade.
  19. I was just saying those in glass housesā€¦.. Riggers, you remind me of someone.
  20. Iā€™m not stalking you ā€¦.but your name was a give away šŸ˜‚ I read ā€˜that placeā€™ now and again to remind myself I am normal. Can I say ā€˜that placeā€™ ?
  21. The difference is, this thread has not been closed. The god mods donā€™t fink I stir things up they just think I am a bit of a knƵb. Which is fair. You on the other managed to upset the lefties on SF. BTWā€¦ā€¦your second point is bullshƬt as they say on SF.šŸ˜ƒ
  22. I have just read a very interesting thread on SF. šŸ˜Žā€¦ā€¦which has been closed. You been upsetting peeps again Drayton Boy on SF ? I will say what I like unless someone tells me differently. A bit like yourself it seemsā€¦ā€¦excuse the punšŸ˜ Glass houses and all that. šŸ˜€ On that note, I am back to bed. I canā€™t shake this flu bug.
  23. Blimey folks, this forum has been dead for months and people complain. I start posting again, it comes alive, everyone joins in then they complain. You cant have it boths ways. French forums were alive when people had infantile debates. It will always be the same. Look at the other forum, they just play games all day because they got nothing to talk about. Well apart from Chancer. This forum is now more popular. Lol. Get a grip. And happy year. ALBF has just turned fifty. But I will always remain a child.
  24. Hmmm. If we are playing trumps, I lived here nearly 25 years and have three kids born in France. I have lived in 5 departments (Paris, Lyonā€¦rural etc) and spend a lot of time in 4 others. All across France. North South, East and West. I had a heart attack in Paris and have had three other operations. Spent lots of time in hospital. I win. Wherever you go, the debate is still the same. On that point, I am working with a 24 year old electrician on the family home deep in rural France. It is about 40 mins from Lyon. Anyway, we were talking about rates and what not. I said why donā€™t you work sometimes down in Lyon to get better rates. He said ā€˜it is too dangerousā€™. Next time I see him, I will tell him to get a grip.
