1. I've had success on http://www.leboncoin.fr/ and its free :-)
  2. I am constructing a landing from the existing stairs in my house. The landing is supported on one side by a block wall and will be supported the other side by the stairs / stone wall. This being an old house nothing is the right size, so the top of the block is in the wrong place just to rest the joists on. Due to the requirement not to rebuild the stairs(!) and keep everything level, I believe I have 2 ways of supporting the joists on the wall. Cut slots in the block, concrete the bottom of the slot to support the joist or secure a joist size piece of wood on top of the block and use joist hangars, however. only the top 2 screws of the hangar would be in the wood, the rest would be in the block (not my idea of a good solution) Is there any other way?
  3. OK, thanks all - Google images seems to concur with Willow Warbler. My wonderful AA guide to birds of Europe is divided by species, so if you don't know what it is, you have to trawl the whole book!

  5.
"FOAD"???  [blink][blink][blink][8-)]
http://www.acronymfinder.com/FOAD.html Probably number 4 :-)
  6.
And yes "UK light bulbs" work in France.
So how do you get the bayonet into the screw fitting then?
  7.
* elderly knees dictate that a step down is not an option, apparently !
Why not ramp down then?

    Police siege

John What difference does it make where the Tornado is flying? Photo missions over Rothbury cost just as much as over the Brecon Beacons. Don't quite see the relevance of the tazer link - you were talking about heat seeking helicopters 20 Armoured cars. Well, that is quite an over reaction - IMHO :-) I wonder if they're going to be returned to N.I. now the problem is resolved?

    Police siege
RAF camera planes, Heat seeking Helicopters and armoured cars from Ireland. .
RAF "camera planes" would probably be on training missions anyway. Most, if not all, Police helicopters have Infra red scanners Armoured cars from Ireland - source please and please don't tell me it's the Daily Mail
  10. We had a phone installed a couple of months ago. As soon as I got the number I subscribed to the liste rouge etc..... The calls still came though. However, our phone keeps a list of numbers that called us and who should be the guilty party? France Telecom! Eventually I got to speak to a real person and they were trying to sell me broadband, which I don't need. So I told them it was only a holiday home and (fingers crossed) we haven't had another call.
  11. OOOPS crossed  posts
Thanks for that DerekJ - I picked up the 2000 years of history, but when I tried to subscibe to the itunes it came back as not being able to find the page - any ideas?
It works OK for me (sorry!) - clicked on the s'abonner au podcast link - clicked ok on the "add to itunes application" box and itunes opened and downloaded it. Click on podcasts in itunes and there it is :-) Where were you having problems?
  12. Sorry, that's the Daily Wail and does not count as a proper news source :-) Try this http://www.theregister.co.uk/2009/06/19/carter_radio_dumb_media/ or this http://www.digitalradiotech.co.uk/dab/fm_switch-off.htm
  13.
by the year 2015 FM radio in the UK will close down and it will be necessary to have a digital radio set.
Who said that? I know this link is a bit old, but this is why I'm querying your source. http://www.theregister.co.uk/2008/04/02/dab_disaster_analysis/ It seems internet radio is the way forward :-)
  14. Like this maybe.........:-)
  15.
I just wish iI knew why when I post the link it doesn't!
Me too :-) I use Firefox and when I mouse over your link the address shows up at the bottom of the page as  http:/// Seems like your copy / paste is doing strange things Idea - copy another link, paste it into notepad and then copy it out again. Notepad should remove any strange formatting that' going on. If that works, then I have no idea what's wrong :-)
  16. http://www.ffve.org/?option=com_content&view=category&layout=simple&id=62&menu_id=123&Itemid=51 Does that make me a geek then?
  17. A roundabout answer, but check here http://www.caravanclub.co.uk/NR/rdonlyres/9979C4E6-4BD7-4933-BB54-6D24AB25CFDA/0/09_Dordogne.pdf Under site 5 in the Dordogne - Moulin du Roch it says "Most watersports are available on the River Dordogne but motor boats, windsurfers and dinghies are not allowed."

  19.
Kewl!  Is it up for sale?  I know someone who would be VERY interested.
How about this one? Only £7995 :-) http://www.milweb.net/webverts/53210/
  20.
some are better for it, witness Offroad Overfinch outdrags 3.2 Mercsports (1.50 on)
And some are not, I presume you know of the "Barry Boys" Forum? http://www.barryboys.co.uk/phpBB2/viewforum.php?f=1
  21. Sorry to highjack your thread, but don't you just love journalists. The Telegraph - "died last weekend from injuries sustained when his bicycle collided with a van a fortnight earlier I prefer Auto Express News (but then I am biased ) "a result of injuries he sustained in a collision between his bicycle and a van" Octane Magazine is even better "an injury he received when riding his bicycle." A pity he retired, then we perhaps wouldn't see the ugly box on wheels the Range Rover has now become. I can just see people going off-road in this................ 22. Nice! Andy - have sent you a PM
  23.
It is forbidden to transport passengers in a trailer so the position of a caravan door is immaterial.
But stopping in a layby to use the 'facilities' and then forgetting where the road is, maybe..................
