  1. I don't think that trying to get through to some Americans ( Obama included) that BP is not British Petroleum will be helped by the fact that Call  me Dave is reportedly going to speak to Obama about the oil spill. It IS a multinational company and not the fault of the British , so why is the British PM getting ionvolved?
  2. I agree it is a good idea to speak or better still write to the father but depending on how the house is owned, it could be possible after this length of time that the two children could force a sale.    Find an English speaking notaire and ascertain what rights under French law your wife and brother have.
  3. I am looking to buy a weber BBQ the round bottomed variety. They are so much not only more expensive in France than they UK but then the difference between the price of the compact kettle and the one touch original is much wider in France than the UK too. PS can any weber user tell me if there is a big difference in functionality between the two types please?
  4. http://bleuciel.edf.com/ael-premiere-connexion-47816.html if you put either your reference client or numero client in, it should lead you through the process.
  5. This is very good http://www.toutallantvert.com/savon-noir-liquide-lhuile-dolive-1l-multiusages-p-601.html but pierre d'argile is my favourite tough spots cleaner at the moment, it does need applying and rubbing by hand, but it does the job without having to get tiles etc too wet. I buy mine from carrefour and it's about 6 euros a pot but you can get one (different brand to the one carrefour sells) also from the above website .
  6. If you complete the form on this site http://www.ameli.fr/assures/soins-et-remboursements/comment-etre-rembourse/le-parcours-de-soins-coordonnes/choisir-et-declarer-votre-medecin-traitant.php and declare the doctor you prefer to use as your medecin traitant, you will get a better remboursement.
  7. Perhaps I read more into the it's not a holiday unless you leave something behind line than was there, but if he had a medical condition whereby he couldn't help defaecating in the shower, what excuse could he have for not washing it away? I wouldn't want him as a house guest.
  8. I have seen threads about people wishing to get their UK qualifications recognised in France but nothing that fits this question. I have a dutch friend who for employer in a job that he has had no previous experience of in Holland or French qualifications in. There only evidence that he can do this catering job is at workplace. He wants to try and get another job in same field but it seems that his experience alone is not enough. As he has been doing this for a number of years is there anyway he can get accreditation and a qualification, BEP or CAP etc. The only other way he has found that he can get even a basic qualification is to become an apprentice on day release and he is a bit long in the tooth for that.
  9. It is for you to keep. I never bother signing and dating mine, but I probably would if I needed to go to the tax office.
  10. We get the vouchers sent every couple of months and we get a bigger return for our money than with the other store cards we have. The info on the many receipts you are given usually just informs you what you have bought that qualifies towards your voucher. When there is a bank holiday coming up pay closer attention as they often give a special (large) money off your bill voucher valid for the bank holiday only.
  11. I wouldn't know if I have a "bleeding heart ivory tower dwelling liberal mindset" but I cannot see anything wrong with the statement made by the 'silly woman' that "Too many asylum-seekers have been treated with brutality and contempt by staff taking their cue from Labour's “clear tough policy”. Respect and compassion would reflect better on Britain, and would make no difference to actual numbers." The second article is not really anything new. Legally migrants can be returned to their place or origin within the EU if they cannot fully support themselves, without recourse to benefits ( which of course many immigrants to the UK are not entitled to claim despite the rubbish spouted by the UK press and this is why they are on the streets!) . I wonder how many Brits would be caught up in the net if France ever decided to do the same thing? As for the myth that all asylum seekers are flocking to the UK to be given a sackful of cash and a free house, the reality again is somewhat different. Asylum seekers in France are given 10€ a day and are not allowed to work, whereas those that manage to get to the UK are given just between 35 and 42£ a week. Asylum seekers whose appeals fail but are too unwell to return home are only allowed 35£ in vouchers.
  12. I have looked at the Waifs website and I would like to offer some hopefully, constructive criticsm. Firstly, I don't think it portrays your organisation, business , charity in a good light when you use a large section on your opening pages to have a moan about forums where you feel that the response has been negative. I think it is unprofessional and unwarranted. Who are you? women in need maylike to know a little more about who you are, why you are involved and what your qualifications are if relevant. They will be coming to you in a low point in their lives and your website seems angry. The section about what every woman should have, IMO , is trite and again doesn't seem very professional, but makes the author appear (to me if no one else) as though she has an axe to grind with men and a little patronising. The idea of waifs ( don't like the name either) is good in principal
  13. Enquiring about students applying for lycees.
  14. No, they don't do a free version like in the UK.
  15. I can tell you that the braces that are all metal are cheaper than the ones with clear retainers. I think you also get a bigger remboursement from CPAM. Some dentists have monthly payment plans and other you can pay quarterly. How much you will get back will depend on the quality of your top up , your 11 year old may be 13 or 14 before the treatment is finished.
  16. The full amount or you will just get 50% of the 49€ and include the facture.
  17. Remplissez la case DB ou DF (page 4, section 7). "sommes versées pour l'emploi d'un salarié à domicile".
  18. Could anyone give me a rough outline of how the points system works eg who awards them and for what? How important is a good brev result in all of this?
  19. My pleasure. I am interested in WW2 airforce activity in my local area. I have learned that if you search by service number , there is more chance of getting straight to who you want to find.
  20. No, I try and do it myself. I don't suppose it will make too much difference if I can't include it. I have been sent a tax brochure from my bank and it has made for good reading as I have found things that I was previously unaware I could claim for. Re the section on the prime pour l'emploi it tells me where to declare "si vous êtes salarié" which I knew about before but also mentions "si vous n'êtes pas salarié". Another trip to the Impôts may be called for!
  21. Yes, It's whether I can include the 3 days unpaid but compulsory residential course I went on in order to get the job, that I need clarification on.
  22. Mystery solved! http://www.conscript-heroes.com/Art%20Laming.html
  23. I am adding up my hours in order to complete the section on my tax form for the prime pour l'emploi. Can I include the 3 days I spent unpaid on the pre job offer course? I had to complete that before the job offer was made, so I wonder if I can mention those unpaid and technically unemployed hours at 2042C ligne NV to PV?
  24. Great, I think I can cope without an accountant now. Thanks to all.
