Supreme Beings

Recommended Posts

Wow! So I'm a Supreme Being, am I? Where did that come from?

Has anyone noticed that when you hold your cursor over the little squares under "Forum Member" or whatever your status is, words pop up. Well, if you do it to Will or Gay, well they are just boring old Forum Administrators. Then, if you do it to others, then you find some are Supreme Beings. One is a Forum Guru. One of the Forum Newbies comes up as a Junior Member, and some just come up as Forum Member. So, I was gobsmacked when Supreme Being came out of my little squares.

So, where do these alternative names spring from, and how did they get allocated?

Had anyone else noticed this?

What are the squares for anyway. They seem to vary in shade - or that just could be because I need a new monitor!

Dick,

Good socialist that I am, I have agreed with the Master Admin that I shall refuse the title that you speak of, to remain a mere supreme with my fellow brothers  I mean members. It is a sacrifice that I feel in keeping with the Red logo on the forum.

Good on you Miki. I was wondering how there could be more than one supreme being anyway.

Interestingly for Forum Admin/tech - it doesn't work in Safari. You just point the cursor at it and wait with a soppy look on your face hoping that you will be a Master of the Universe or something, but nowt. It works in Windoze 1936 or whatever we have at work, though.

Fay, you are an advanced member!

The standard version of this software comes with Supreme Being etc, it doesn't take a genuis to work out that these 'handles' are possibly not a positive thing !

So the mods asked for them to be changed.

Can't help with the squares though, except I think mods and admin are green!

I don't know where Safari is Dick but it works OK here in La Ville Blanche.

Perhaps it's the soppy look that is causing the problem ? Have you tried the gleeful but hopeful look, it works here sometimes, especially if I want some Dinner and a little glass of rouge

I'm afraid there's a very boring and mundane explanation. When the forum software first arrived, people had these peculiar titles like 'supreme being' or 'forum guru' according to how many posts they had made. I think almosteverybody would have been a supreme being, as that kicked in after about the first 50 posts. James managed to get most of the titles changed to something a bit more sensible, but it looks as if the old names are still in there somewhere.

Pity, as you say, 'forum administrator' sounds very ordinary in comparison.

On Safari Dick ? Blimey you do get around. It only seems like last week you were traversing la Mayenne and exploring Roman fortresses and now you're somewhere with the Rhinos and tigers!

Now lets see if I'm a supreme being,  (that's wingdings for Supreme Being)  which is the only real reason for this post

Miki,

Perhaps it's a bit like receiving an MBE or Knighthood. Very nice of the Forum to place us all on an honours list. I just don't know if I can accept mine? Do I deserve it? Help Dilema.

Just take it with good grace Jirac, I doubt any of us are deserving

Paul - I wish I was in Mayenne today - the weather has actually been good. Of course, Julie puts it down to today being the second day back at school.

No, Miki, Safari isn't a place (safaris I know) - it's a bowser. Or browser, even. By Apple. It's good, but newish and still acts in rather unpredictable ways. It may be because pop-ups are disabled, but the little yellow explanatory notes drop down for other things, so who knows? I'll try in Explorer later. All asleep now?

I'll tiptoe out to get my coat...

Well, folks - how do we feel about being supreme beings? Do we want to change? It doesn't seem to work in the same way as the Senior/Junior Members though, because most Senior Members and Forum Members seem to be Supreme Beings. (I'm sure it's true!) Will and Gay said that they thought these had been turned off - will we let them? The question is, what do we turn into next?

I notice that Fay whilst shown as a Junior member is in fact an Advanced Member!

Just looked at my squares and I'm a Guru!

I did think that all this rank flying about was a bit like the army and I now have a feeling that the people who set up this software are taking the p**s in a very gentle way!

I think we should be told.

Aaah, Boggy, you have brought out the hidden Trekkie in me! In the original series it was the 'Squire of Gothos', later identified as a member of the Q Continuum in 'The Next Generation'.

(This post has been put forward as the British entry in the European Pointless Posts Competition).
