Today we hear that 5 police officers are critical and up to 77 injured after the latest riot in Paris during which the Police were shot at   and their vehicles burned  !!    The report stated the riots started after 2 youths from North Africa were in collision with a police car and came off a motorbike and were killed ..... were they being chased  ?

At first views varied on whether they were being chased or not, but now witnesses confirm that the police car was being driven at normal speed, with no siren or flashing lights, at around 40 - 50 KpH. Also reported was that the "motorbike" was one of those mini-motocross type bikes that are not permitted to use public roads, and that neither of the youths was wearing a crash helmet.  The bike had failed to give priorité à droite to the police car, and the two vehicles collided.

The first rumours directly after the crash suggested that the police had immediately fled the scene without giving first aid to the victims.  The  rumours have now been disproved by witness statements, but not in time to prevent the riots.

Watched the news at lunchtime. It's going to be mayhem tonight because it looks as if the police will be ready to fight back a bit more.

I was wondering how the rose tinted glasses brigade cope with this, or do they close their eyes and jump to a pink fluffy thread?

Paris, like most large French cities has a large immigrant population which is the result of post-Algerian migration plus the encouragement for North Africans to migrate to work on various major projects such as the massive extsneions of EDF power transmission, toll roads and the railways system; as well as low-skilled workers for the industrial towns such as Tolouse, Lyon et al.

Unfortunately, these immigrants (and particularly their kids) believe they can achieve equality by violent demonstration, rather than study and self-improvement.

Obviously, there is a degree of racial discrimination. However, this is invariably elevated out of true proportion by the Left Wing. And, of course, the Bunny Huggers.

What's different to the UK, Raindog?

If you really believe otherwise, then I can only suggest you spend some time in Barking, Essex; Ilford and places like Tottenham in London! At night!

Then travel to the Moss Side in Manchester, the St. Paul's district of Bristol and Toxteth in Liverpool. Finishing up in the more interesting areas of Nottingham!

The singular difference is that in France, the gendarmerie, the police and the CRS take no prisoners!

Le petit Nicolas was elected to sort out this problem as well as many others: indeed, his statements when Minister for the Interior ought to send messages to the marauding mobs.

Having read as many verifiable news sources as possible, early this morning it seems that the police vehicle was hit by an illegal motorcycle, which was stolen; the riders were not wearing crash helmets; rode dangerously and managed to sucessfully kill themselves and damage state property simultaneously.

How dare the police be in the wrong place and impede the illegal passage of two criminals! Who do they think they are!

No wonder there was a riot!

As Paxo might say "Yeeeeeeees!"

I just happen to have more faith in the French government and the various forces for policing than in the UK: let's face it, on current performance, the UK sucks! Like Sir Ian Blair's men in blue shooting the wrong people; and the Home office repeatedly letting dangerous illegal asylum seeker criminals out; and so on.

Edited for lack of accuracy.

Sorry, being a bit cryptic there.  What I meant was that if this was only shown on the French news, and only reported on French news sites, many Brits living, or with holiday homes in France might not even be aware that there was a problem.  And that that makes it easy to deny that problems like this exist.

Unless they read all about it here, that is [;-)]

Was that the kind of pink fluffiness you meant?

Not sure if you live in la belle France Raindog; I'd be wholly surprised if you actually did!

If you do, then I am rather surprised by both your comments and your pre-move analyses; if you don't then why join a French oriented forum?

I seriously don't understand this. What are you talking about?

Apols, Raindog. Your comments about rose tinted specs and an earlier unrelated thread caused me to confuse you with another poster.

Serves me right for trying to write "On the fly", with far too much going on at the same time.

It's been a bad day..............................

BTW, Cathy: I'm rarely aggressive on this forum, however I do find it very strange how certain members delight in enjoying a wholly negative mien to France and living in France.

Of course the place aint perfect: where is? Utopia and Shangri La don't exist on this planet! It's far better than many places IMHO.

Just thought i'd slot this in here for anyone who dosen't know about it. A superb discussion program on every evening at 5.50 on France 5 called Dans l'Air, chaired by Yves Calvi with 3 or 4 specialists invited according to the subject. Tonight it was called Banlieues: Pourquoi La France (obviously about the events of the last few days). Fascinating stuff. One of the statistics which was mentioned was the burning of between 36 and 40 thousand cars a year, it's become so common that it's rarely reported.

Anyway, I thoroughly recommend this program [:)]

(it's great for improving your French too!)
