idun Posted August 30, 2011 Share Posted August 30, 2011 I know that there a few french people that post on here, so please, tell me which cars were the cars that young french men thought that they could pull the women with from the 70's onwards.I've noticed a few MG's and Triumph's recently and remembered how these cars were bought to impress and pull. A good friend of ours would buy second hand ones and the first job, always was to repair the passenger seat. As a young naive thing, it took me a long time to work out what he meant by saying that it would take a hammering. It just amazes me how many car enthusiasts round here (a bit of a Mecca for sports cars) seem to like British marques but especially MG. Just don't get it myself. They wouldn't have pulled me. idun Posted August 31, 2011 Author Share Posted August 31, 2011 My interest in cars is so limited that I had never heard of the 'Facel Vega Facellia' and as I am bit dyslexic, I though that the utube thing was going to more than a little naughty, but it was just a car, which is pretty much how I feel about most of them.I quite like the look of the Maserati 4 door and some Range Rovers, but that is about as far as it goes. A very good friend has recently bought an Audi hard top TT and when I ride in it, I do wonder why, it's raison d'etre. At least with the dinky old sports cars, they felt fast and a bit exciting, but there again, I found having a ride in a mini the same. That's just me. [/quote]Yes I did, brilliant, glad just to see Jim Clarks mechanic explaining his accident which has puzzled me ever since; somehow I had eliminated the memories of just how terrible the death rate was, and for the first time felt like defending Jackie Stewart against his detractors for the strides he made in track safety, tracks and cars have improved so much since then. Close wheel to wheel dicing I love, after all its not rubbing it's racing, but I was turned off by the accidents. I used to support CC innovations (especially the John Player Specials, unfortunately technology of stress failure seemed to be less developed then, whereas now there is a sensor for when a driver coughs; I remember particularly Hunt & Regazzoni's rescue of Ronnie Peterson, but that wasn't mentioned? I met Regazzoni and chatted to him at Angouleme where he was bravely trying to thrash his big ol' merc around, still game, despite his injuries. Sad episode. A kiss and a cuddle and the start of a little grope in a car, was as far as I ever got. And I did realise that ignorance was not good and addressed the 'problem'. I am not sure if I was ever built for such contortions as mentioned, what with wrestling with gear sticks and back seat ankle straps and windows being kicked out!!! Did I miss out, I'll never know now. Unlike some friends though, the good thing was that my initial ignorance made me afraid of the unknown and I didn't get pregnant until I wanted to and no shot gun wedding as that was what happened then.
