CeeJay
Have to pick up daughter and son-in-law from Montpellier airport on July 14th.!!!!!!!!!!!Not only Bastille Day but Le Tour starts from Montpellier to Mont Ventoux.Trying to find details of road closures but with little success, have to get from the airport through Montpellier to Quissac, Sauve, area, any thoughts would be appreciated although I think perhaps it best to go down to St.Jean de Vedas and then up? NormanH
Derek gave a very useful link to the Tour handbook which gives loads of details...http://services.completefrance.com/forums/completefrance-forums/cs/forums/3387018/ShowPost.aspx

NormanH
One possibility, but I haven't done it recently, would be to go to St Jean de Vedas and cut through the village to the sort of bypass that goes north to the west of Montpellier, then go up towards Ganges etc.The other might be instead of going inland towards Montpellier follow the coast road towards Carnon, La Grande Motte then try to cut up towards Nîmes from le Grau de Roi... CeeJay
NormanHThe St.Jean route may be the easier and the quickest, although I will have a look at the other route you mentioned, thank you.

Gardian
Norman's advice about St Jean de Vedas is good. You should be clear of the airport by 10.30 and then I'd take the motorway (west) for 2 junctions and then head north and out of town towards Ganges. After you get out of town, you can cut off towards Quissac. The Tour starts in the centre of the city and heads out in an easterly direction. They can't close the whole of the ring road - it'll bring everything to a standstill, though don't expect it to be a blissful journey! I find Montpelier tricky at the best of times! CeeJay
Yes, thank you Gardian, Ganges is where I want to be so that is the best option and I know the route quite well.
