tuppence
Hi,Don't know if anyone can help, but although I have Frontlined my cat she is still 'fleabound'. Normally the fleas have gone within a couple of days with FL but this time she has still got them after nearly 3 weeks[6]. Every time I go near her to comb them out, she does a runner and won't come into the house in case I make a grab for her. Sadly there are a few in the house and I have the bites to prove it[:(]. Fortunately with little or nor carpet , I don't think they will last too long. I am spraying the area frequently and vacuuming the rugs I have got. I'm more concerned about puss. Any ideas anyone?tuppence
suein56
Fortunately with little or nor carpet , I don't think they will last too long.
Does your cat sleep in the house on upholstered chairs? I ask 'cos I used to spray all our chairs, cushions etc at least every six months with this. I also used to wash their beds and then spray those too and anything else they sat or slept on eg rugs. Sounds over the top but I have a bad reaction to flea bites so avoidance of them was paramount. As to Frontline I believe it has become ineffective, I think Advantage is the new preferred product.Sue
val douest
One of our cats is very prone to fleas so I switched him from Frontline to Frontline Combo - even pricier than the standard stuff, I'm afraid, but it kills the eggs and larvae as well as the fleas themselves. So far it seems to be working: I have to stick with the Frontline because as far as I know Advantage doesn't tackle ticks, which he also gets from time to time. The other cat has never had a flea problem but is Frontlined to be on the safe side. The cats are very aloof from one another (and don't sleep in the same places) so their little visitors don't have a chance to socialise.Val
tuppence
Thanks for your responses to my original posting. However, where do you get your Advantage from? I have checked all the online outlets and found that they all need a pet prescription. Do you buy it in France? Do you need a vets prescription over here to get it? The cat hasn't slept in the house since the hot weather we had in June, so I don't appear to have a furniture problem. I have a friend coming over today to see if we can get the cat, and comb as many fleas as possible off her. I did manage to get a flea collar on her last evening but I bet it will be missing when she turns up this morning!tuppence
ali-cat
You can get Advantage at your local French vet – as far as I know they all sell it. I would try the Frontline Combo first though (if that isn't already what you use), as we tend to find it works the best on our three. One word of warning though, you probably shouldn't be using a flea collar along with drops as it could overload your cat's system. Good luck catching & grooming her today!! At present she has probably got no Frontline in her system so the flea collar will hopefully do some good until next week when I shall Frontline her again. I believe that Frontline should be used every 4 weeks so its been 3 weeks since I did her. I'm glad no-one was filming me last night trying to "collar" her. If it hadn't been such a serious issue even I would have laughed out loud[:D]. Also last night, as if having my cat incapacitated wasn't enough, another (probable) stray turned up. Very thin and looks like he/she might have a broken leg, but took off on 3 good legs. He/ she has turned up before but as soon as you go near, her/him goes off into next doors garden. I could have cried, I hate to see an animal in that sort of state[:(].Off to catch my moggy now, teeth gritted!tuppence
buelligan
Sorry, I read this thread very late but felt I should let you know that I had the same problem with my cat earlier in the summer. I have always used Frontline but this May I noticed it just wasn't working at all. At first I thought it might be just the pipettes I had so I bought a new lot only to find that they didn't work either. Did some research on the net and read that cider vinegar (a drop in the cat's water) works. Tried it to no avail. I became desperate (as did my poor cat). Then I bought Biocanispot chat 80 made by Biocanina from the pharmacist (actually cheaper than Frontline). She had her first application on 7 August and has remained entirely flea free since then. We are both very happy with the result![:D]
tuppence
Hi buelligan,As the original poster on this subject I was glad to read your posting today. Like you the frontline was not up to it this year[:(]. Most of my friends said that the hot summer hasn't helped at all with the flea population. However I did my cat a couple of weeks ago and she seems to be flea-free for the first time in weeks. I have combed her several times and she seems to be free. But I will take note of the Biocanispot chat 80 and get some in (we have a pharmacie in our village) for future use. Glad to hear that you and your cat are happy[:)]thankstuppence
Clair
Thanks for the useful tip [:)].It is worth noting there are two versions of Biocanina Biocanispot Chat:version 40 is for small cats (< 4kg)version 80 is for larger cats (>4kg)
cooperlola
I've read this thread with interest as, in spite of Frontlining, I'm still covered in bites, as are the cats (there's a large orange chap who spends all day in or on my bed!) I found the recommended stuff on the internet HERE . Can those who've used this stuff confirm that this is a reasonable price? It seems so to me. Joanna
My vet says that Frontline doesn't work any longer and to use one of the more recent prepatations. Incidentally cats don't need to be done against ticks as they aren't prone to tick disease.
