1.
Another tecchie question, what do I have to do to enable pm to appear on my posts?
It does, but you can't PM yourself, so you don't see it.
 2.
Our cordless phone is a Siemens Gigaset C455 but I want to replace it with something more compatible with the Neuf box. Would anybody who is using a cordless phone with Neuf / SFR box without any problems be kind enough to let me know which model it is? Thanks in Advance
Well, as I have said already, I have been with Neuf for over 2 years now, and it has been very reliable with none of the reported problems.  I use a Siemens Gigaset C450, and two A140's slaved to it without any of your problems.
 3.
I had always thought that the 'code' as such is split - the first 2 numbers are the Department number, and the remaining 3 numbers are the number of a particular village....which makes it easy for Le Poste.
Yes the first two numbers are the deparment, but the the last three can cover several villages, ours covers 15 villages and several thousand inhabitants.
 4.
I do not subscribe to the idea that cycle time for pump operation is related to temperature,
Andrew, I agree.  I was repeating what I have been told by several pool professionals (hence me stating "received wisdom")
I pefer to calculate the cycle time based on the power of the pump and the capacity of the filter. Ideal is 3 hour cycle time.
So do I, and in fact I run my own pump twice a day for three hours at a time thus ensuring at least two complete cycles of the water through the filter.
 5. Received wisdom (I believe) is 1 hr per 2 degrees of water temperature.  IE water temp 26 degrees, run for 13 hours.
 6.
but that link is to 'Pensions et rentes imposables' by definition box T1 is for revenus 'éxonorés' As tax has already been paid in the UK there is nothing to pay, so it can't be reduced by 10%... The only thing it could change is the final global ' revenu fiscale de référence' which  is useful to have if you need a credit, but in that case yu need it to be as high as possible[:)]
The point is, the Impôts have to try to treat your income the same as any resident.  Therefore, if you in addition to UK pension income had French source income, then this French source income has to be taxed at the correct rate.  Therefore, although for many people it probably wouldn't make a difference, the 10% deduction is applied so that any other income is taxed at the correct rate.  This also sets your RFR at the correct level so that (for instance) those who contribute 8% of their RFR for their CMU contributions aren't overpaying.
 7. Do you ,live on a mountain? At say above 3000M, that may explain it!  Have you actually tested the water yourself, ie if it is 10 degrees, then I'm sure you would know it!
 8.
I thought you put the gross, the tax paid, and then put the net in 2042 box TI.
You do, the Impôts do the calculation
What standard deduction? What  is this 10% deduction achieving?
This 10% reduction.
 9.
There were three points for Carte Grise´s, what was everyone doing??
Changing address, changing ownership, registering foreign plated cars and even possibly registering new cars, although the garage does that normally.
 10. When we moved over to France permanently, we brought our two pet rabbits with us.  We tried to book Brittany Ferries, but we couldn't book the rabbits on the vessel. I phoned their customer service to enquire why, and was told it was considered bad luck by French crews to have rabbits onboard.  Indeed, if they knew they were onboard, they crew would refuse to sail.  Appently, back in the days of wooden ships, one was sunk with the loss of all hands after rabbits chewed through the hull.  We managed to move over with LD Lines in the end.
 11.
O brother where art thou?  Starring George Clooney...seriously funny - especially the dance (so un Clooney)!
Great film, very very funny.  Surprisingly based on Homer's Odyssey.
 12. Thanks to all for this thread, now I know where the little blighters are likely to be found, I can wage war on them at grass roots level[:-))]
 13.
There is a special voting card for EU citizens who want to vote for the EU elections in France. Mr Clair was given his card for the EU vote last week and it is marked "la présente carte est valable exclusivement pour les elections européennes" and has a line below blacked out. He has another card which he used for the local elections last year. My card simply says "carte électorale".
My card says on the front in a box...."Les Élections au Parlement Europeen, Les Élections Municipales".  But I did have to fill in two forms.
 14.
No it isn't.  I've just done my two hours on election duty at the Mairie and worked through the count (I'm on the Bureau) and all the cards I saw today clearly state that they cover booth the Municipales and the European elections.  I also checked with the Secretary and the Maire and you only have to fill in one form.  This isn't just a local/24 thing, it's the law, the Maire looked up the Code which we had in the voring room and it clearly states that you only have to fill in one form, which it designates and that the Card covers both elections.  If you have to fill in two forms, it's a local and wholly unecessary thing.
Tony, I don't know about the law, but we had to fill in two forms. I did think it odd at the time. As you correctly state, the voting card covers both local and european elections.  I too have done a three hour stint covering the voting in the local elections last year, plus another 5 hours for the count afterwards.
 15.
What should I really be looking for in that the L'Impot guys need for tax purposes certain qualifications as to the bio efficency of the units.
Here is the relevant text.
 16.
Or were you just trying to get the words Telegraph and scam into the same sentence?
And without following his own advice about spell-checking[;-)]
 17. Thanks to both of you, for asking and answering the question.  One of our clients has one of these trees, and we were wondering what it was, now we know!  I tried the berries, quite tasty.
 18. As long as you are correctly registered to vote, then you don't have to have your card with you, just show official identification. The form to register for European elections is a seperate form from the Local elections.
 19. My memory might trip me up, but I can't remember ever being asked for the CoC when I CT'd my car before registering?  I would only condemn it (the CoC) if the Préfecture doesn't accept it (which I doubt).
 20.
As usual I will be scrutineering...
As did a few of us for the locals last year.............
 21.
300 to 600 euros is about the mark dependant upon the system and refrigerant capacity
Wot! I paid about 120€ for a professional job. This was a single unit, check all connections, pull a vacumn and then open up the relevant valves in the correct sequence, followed by a through leak check.  The gas was already in the inverter unit (R410A I think).
