1. It would be interesting to know how this dispute was resolved (or otherwise) Luvarmagnac.
 2. The responsible person in this case is of course the person who left two 3 year old kids alone long enough for this kind of thing to happen. Had this happened while the children were with a child minder or in playschool then there is no doubt as to who would have been to blame! There was not sufficient information in the newspaper report to proportion blame, we don't know who was in charge of the children at that time.

First purchase  HERE Second purchase HERE That gets rid of a good chunk of it then I would probably give the wife something for putting up with me all those years.
Oh how I detest that phrase! It puts her on a par with 'the car' or 'the chair'. Surely after 'all those years' she's entitled to be referred to as 'my wife'? FairyNuff (who's someone's wife!) [:D]
Just been searching for a telephone number for a friend and I came across this in an old post - Can I refer you to http://www.completefrance.com/cs/forums/1637309/ShowPost.aspx Quote: "We've been into mutiple offices and spoken to people, who verify that we're in the system (we do have paper attestations), but that they're waiting for a permanent social security number from Paris before they will issue one for "him indoors", then they'll get round to me I suppose." Oh how I detest that phrase! It puts him on a par with 'the dog' or 'the cat'. Surely after 'all those years' he's entitled to be referred to as 'my husband'?

 6. So how much was it? I mean if you are talking about 70€ when your usual bill was 10€ then not much of a problem. If it was 700€ then you have a BIG problem and probably left a heater on when the house was empty. Also was the bill estimated and if so have you read the meter to see if it is anywhere near what you used? We have a 5 bed house with all the usual mod cons but not electric heating and we use about 1000 units a month split between HP and HC. Useage stays about the same summer and winter as we heat the house and water with oil & wood in the winter but heat water by electric in the summer.
 7. He did and very nice it is too!
 8. A Bendix master cylinder on oscaro.com is about 200€ and garages like to add on their bit. That, together with labour will work out to the 400€ mark at a main dealer. The C5 is an expensive car to maintain and a 2001 model is getting on a bit so you have to expect the odd problem. Personally I would look for a smaller garage to service the car if I couldnt do it myself. It is getting more and more expensive to use main dealers. My wife has a C1 and has to have it serviced at a main dealer for the guarantee. An oil change cost us 115€ and they didn't even change the filter!
 9. Did you miss out the word "Irish" before builder on purpose?
 10. Just got it - it's a block of cement that holds the pole for the dish!
 11.
The pigeon provokers I get, the through window connectors also although I would never use one, but what on earth is the Tupperware box filled with what looks like sand for? Is that your idea of a weatherproof joint box AnOther?
Looks like cement to me - come on put us out of our misery, what is it??
 12. You don't need to activate the card. I've just received two new cards which replaced the blue cards, plug and play - so to speak.
 13. Don't you think you are flogging a dead horse when someone posts once with a stupid question for a forum such as this and doesn't respond again?
 14.
Thanks Guys; that was most helpful and sounds very reasonable. I'm off to "Electric"now. That's what I used to call it when I arrived in France
I think you will find they are shut today, I'd wait till tomorrow. Funny that you should call it "electric" - we did that for years until we moved here to live.
 15.
So what is the Leclerc rate for international texting, UK principally ?
http://www.leclercmobile.fr/compte/tarifs.html
 16.
Hi Jay Could anyone clarify for me if it's 60 or 70 that you get a reduction/exemption as another thread on this subject seems to suggest 70. Confused.com ??? Thanks Mel.
Yes it is 60 if you are also on low income. No doubt somebody will be along with a link to the appropriate regulation. As far as I am aware, if you are eligible you do not receive a bill or any notification. You can always check on the Impots.gouv.fr site.
 17.
Thanks pickles & SD, all is now clear. I'll not panic yet!
Of course you may have turned 60 last year and be on low income then you would not receive the bill at all.
 18.
Good news of a sort, I suppose? http://www.hifx.co.uk/marketwatch/market_news/headlines/uk_boe_sit_tight_for_novembers_key_decision.aspx
That was last months news!
 19. Perhaps you should rename this thread Au Revoir Teleconnect (spit) Bonjour FT/Orange (spit).
 20.

Have you seen it tonight 1.1156
QED[:D]
Surely you mean CQFD as we are in France!
 21.

55€ here.  Yes he was here for about an hour, but much of that was spent clearing the c**p from his vacuum cleaner, from the previous visit.  He did remark how clean our chimney was, which speaks well for the o/h's diy efforts for the last four years.  We decided we'd better splash out this time, if only for the bit of paper to keep the insurance company happy.
What do you mean?
Oh my gosh - you mean to say you don't have your note to say your chimney has been swept by a "professional" for the house insurance company? Wow, you do live dangerously.
 22.
On the surface what you say looks good but bear in mind that a) it is seasonal work b) he also pays for transport and petrol and c) he pays all his cotis.  I doubt his books look quite as healthy as it would appear they might in theory.  Few businesses of this sort give uninterupted continuous employment, do they?
Yeah, my post was a bit tongue in cheek, where's your sense of humour? Point is, it is not a specialist job and I still say it is a rip off because they are the only people who can issue the scrappy bit of paper each year.
 23. 140€ an hour, 8 hours a day, I make that 1120€. For a 5 day week that's 5600€. Assuming he has six weeks holiday a year that means he earns a total of 257,600€ before tax etc. So the old saying "where there's muck there's money" is true. Even 104€ is a rip off for a job which requires no qualifications or specialist equipment. Why is it we just accept such blatant robbery. To clean my 3 chimneys takes me about an hour, I spread the soot on the garden and the equipment (brushes) cost me 8.50€. OK...OK.... I know I can't write myself a scrap of paper saying job done and if my house burns down I may not be insured so don't shout at me!
