  1. SAGA credit cards are also commission free in the EU and have an excellent exchange rate but you have to be 50+.
  2. Sounds all Greek to me!
  3. My wife and I went on a walking holiday(in mountains)-we thought we would be at the back somewhere-we turned out to be the fittest-we had people who couldn't walk on the flat!!!
  4. Also,I have been short-changed and the cashier claimed that I had given her a smaller note than I had, complained and was told to come back at closing time,so they could check the till.Said"No thanks-I'll just stand here blocking the till until it is sorted".Immediate refund.
  5. Yesterday,I bought four identical items as Asda at 8p. each, got home and noticed only one on the bill;must go in next week and give them 24p..
  6. I have a nephew who describes himself as a "Tree Surgeon";however his daughter says"Nah,he just cuts bits off trees"!!
  7. Properly installed French wiring is far safer than it's equivalent UK wiring(each circuit separately fused-double pole circuit breakers etc.plugs you can pull out of sockets without fingers touching the pins).DIY UK and keep quiet? You won't get a supply(if you ask them) or if they find out and your house insurance will be invalid.

    Lave Linge

Our Indesit is now five years old -no breakdowns.I have been told that the slower the spin speed the better-puts much less strain on the bearings.(Forces will go up as the square of the speed-I think).
  9. Recovering your costs?in the old days it was-now they charge extra for it and call it "legal protection!!".
  10. GIN and a soft toothbrush.
  11. Thats worse than one of our so-called friends.Invited us to dinner-both my wife and I chose dishes from the menu that wouldn't bankrupt him and when the bill came-what did he say? you've guessed-Shall we split it?.
  12. Is this one of these marvellously cheap companies that offer everything that people keep telling us about?People in the UK are finally finding that you don't get owt for nowt(particularly from insurance companies);when they say we'll beat the best quote by £100-ask yourself how they can do it.
  13. There has been considerable correspondence on this previously. Most manufacturers produced special vehicles for sale in France using different gearboxes and final drives to the rest of Europe just to be able to get into a lower CV rating for France.
  14. The "s" doesn't matter and you can write the cents in figures tho' most cheques state "toutes lettres".
  15. It depends how your names are printed on the cheque;if shown as "ou" either can sign;if "et" then both must sign.
  16. Worked for a while this morning;this evening back to signing-in!!
  17. Is/was that bike available in France? If so,what were the mods used to reduce the power to make it legal?
  18. Sounds like you need an accountant rather than a notaire-your notaire can probably recommend one.
  19. There are rubberized paints, ones with glassfibre and resin in and even PVA but I think all of these would only be a temporary solution-even if it stops water coming thro' the wall directly it will come under or round in time.As already said, tho' apparently not possible, the only permanent solution is to treat it from the outside.
  20. Try M.Bricolage.Our local one(34) stocks three different makes in all sizes/shapes.
  21. Le Mans,Tours seems to take you a long way out of your way-have you considered the N154-Dreux,Evreux,Chartres-most of it excellent road(they're spending a fortune on it)-turn left at Rouen onto the Paris autoroute for a few miles, then onto the A154 which becomes the N154 all the way to Orleans. In fact I use the N20 rather than the A20 down to Vierzon-they run nearly parallel.
  22. STANSTED please;Stanstead is eight or thirty miles from the airport depending on which one you're writing about.
  23. Only if you happen to be William Arthur King.
  24. I have several friends in business in the South and echo what you say about sleeping over the shop in high season-also staying open till the last customer has gone-could be two/three in the morning. The season starts at Ascension and closes second week of September irrespective of the weather-high season is from Bastille to Assumption-mid July to mid August.I have seen a young couple who had obviously rented a little restaurant sitting just inside the door as we went out for the evening and still sitting there as we came back several hours later-not one customer but they still have to have the stock/food in place.
