  1. Panda- I know what you mean. 'We' have a small pack of about 10 dogs who are tied up ,on chains , outside all year . Some of them are in runs but most of them are beneath the tree for protection. Even the locals feel sorry for them. The highlight of their days are the twice daily feeds. Poor things.
  2. We had no shooting at all last weekend in 61 . Here is some info about birds... http://www.rspb.org.uk/supporting/campaigns/illegalhunting/france.asp No idea about animals though!
  3. Thanks- will look out for those![:)]
  4. Help please...... Anyone know what the French equivalent is for John Innes No1 ( for seeds) and John Innes No 3 ( for potting on) ???? Seems daft to take stuff over from the UK! ( also - is it much the same price, and easily found??) Thankyou!
  5. We have a blue passion flower growing on the south facing side of our house, and it's grown like crazy. I believe they can grow up to 9 metres! It's in a Belfast sink sized pot and isn't watered much at all- might that do for now whilst you're saving your pennies?? It has kept it's leaves over this winter and the flowers looked lovely last year.
  6. vidfleur- if this is the accident you are talking about, then we  moved into the next village last summer and were told about it by the locals. One of the shops handed us a sticker in English to put inside the car to remind us to drive on the right. It must have shaken them up quite a bit to go out and get them . I'm very sorry for you- must have been awful.
  7. If someone really wants a property and offers the asking price then I understand that the vendor cannot then sell to anyone else for a higher price?  ( ie gazumping above the asking price isn't allowed). We wanted our house and paid the full price. The vendor couldn't have been more helpful...and still is one year later!! Our estate agent said that the locals liked to sell to the English as they were much more easy-going to deal with than the French. I wonder if that means compliant with the price???[:)]
  8. Happy birthday! [img]http://bestsmileys.com/dogs/1.gif[/img]   woof woof
  9. How interesting!!! Thanks[:)]
  10. Do the French celebrate Shrove Tuesday in any way???? ( Lemon and crunchy sugar on mine....yum yum!)

    Cat diet

Our first cat died of kidney failure- and we were told to feed him on that. Nothing else suggested. He did live on for another 4 or 5 years if I recall! - well worth every penny!
  12. Fennel tea is supposed to be good for wind.....[Www]
  13. Yep that's the stuff!! I know cos I've got a packet infront of me..... Saint Louis.....   Sucre Glace a Saupoudre... ( and at the bottonm of the label it says icing sugar and again in 7 other languages!!!![:)])
  14. Remember you can always turn the radiator down or off...it's when it's -6 C that you'll be needing to feel warm!
  15. Inbreeding???? A fine waterspray may sort out the habit????
  16. Didn't realise there were so many cuts of beef!!!!! Makes me think I've not the first idea about cooking now!!![blink]
  17. I know the cuts of beef are different in France, but is there a simple list anywhere which translates the French cut into how it can be cooked? ( the sort of thing you could print off and take shopping with you??) Would be useful!! ( I have bio beef  in the freezer but the cuts mean nothing to me!!![:-))]  As it was expensive I'd hate to stew some fillet or roast some stewing steak!
  18. Well I have bookmarked it coops![:)] We have old slate tiles and the moss and lichen take a hold very quickly and they are eating into the slates. It looks nice, but it's clearly damaging the tiles. Ours was cleared by the previous owner last spring  and will certainly need redoing by next spring. Rather than 'poison' the stuff I'd prefer to paint something on to repel it.....although that would probably cause some other problems with the roof then!
  19. Is anyone able to tell me if meat and dairy products are still restricted??? I want to take out bacon, sausages and English cheeses for our neighbours and I don't want them confiscated!  ( I know I am being a bit lazy here as I could check withDEFRA, but it seems to take ages to find the right bit on their site![blink]) Many thanks! We are celebrating Xmas in UK and New Year in France. Merry Xmas and New Year to you all- hope you have a lovely time!
  20. Excuse me Missy...but I think it for the Matron to check n'est pas????[:-))]
  21. ( Any photos???- strictly for historical purposes for the cultural edudation of the gals of course!!![:-))])
  22. We bought basic flat pack beds from Conforama which we were able to take 'home' in our car. We'd brought the mattresses from England rolled up ( really quite small!!)- from John Lewis .  I can't comment on the quality of Conforama mattresses.( John Lewis also sell flat packed beds of vey good quality and reasonable prices- but that's no use if you are hiring a car in France!) We have very steep, narrow, twisting staircases in France, so we had to go for flat packed,. Conforama will deliver, but you'll need to book it ahead if they are busy.
  23. What an eggstrawdonary thing to post!![:-))]
