1. Pierre Get ready for a 'phone call/visit from the agent informing you of one of the following or a combination of all three. 1. The law was never enacted. 2. It doesn't apply to individuals, only companies. 3. Anything else they can think up (1. and 2. are not exhaustive).
2. Congratulations  [B] Our posts crossed so I'm pleased that your buyer has turned up. My post may help others who are running out of time.
3. We were in a similar situation almost three years ago. Three year old Focus Ghia estate diesel auto which we put on LBC, AI and a couple of less than memorable French web sites. This was probably about this time of year and............nothing (except one time waster via AI). I don't know what it is with French car buyers but as you've found out they don't seem to go for internet advertised higher priced items. March drifted into May and our house buyer was in place for the end of June. I decided to look for UK based buyers of LHDs and found one in Basingstoke. The deal was done over the 'phone with lots and lots of questions and one Friday I caught the ferry to Portsmouth and drove directly to Basingstoke. The bosses son, who I'd dealt with, had had to go out suddenly so I dealt directly with the boss. A good look round the car with his sons' notes that he'd written from our 'phone call and then he took it for a spin for a few minutes. Came back and pronounced "exactly as described". We sat in front of his computer and the payment for the vehicle was made directly to our bank account at the agreed price. He told me a few stories about bodged cars with dodgy resprays which hadn't been declared and I think that's the crux of doing this type of deal. Be very honest with one another. Sure, we got a bit less than we would have liked but it was one more thing off the list to be done before we re-located.
4. I am a bit over the top on these sort of things but I would be very wary over this. It may have been so that they could take a closer look inside your property. Similar to a distraction burglary. I'd try explaining it to a neighbour and see what their reaction is.
5.
Maybe you could make a "feature" of the ducting? Angela
Love it.   [:D] You weren't an estate agent in a former life were you Angela?
6.
There are two separate issues here. One is how you can remain in the system, and the other is the ALD. To deal with the ALD first you should have a médicin traitant that you have declared as such. You consult that Doctor  who makes a protocol de soins with the specialists that treat you and gets this cleared by another Doctor at the CPAM. You then have a piece of paper stating exactly which disease or diseases you have covered as an ALD, and these are reimbursed at 100% This of course is dependent on being in ths system
There is one other possibility. If your doctor considers that your incapacity constitutes a disability as defined by CPAM then they can make an application on your behalf to CPAM to be classified as disabled in France. If this status is granted then most costs, not just those treatments covered by the ALD, are reimbursable at 100%. What isn't covered are costs such as accomodation/food costs when hospitalised, prescriptions which are reimbursed at less than the standard rate. I don't know all of the exceptions so, if you get that far, you should check with CPAM. The classification of an immigrant as "disabled" puts you on the same footing as a French resident and you cannot be discriminated against because you are not French.
7.
Oh well, not worth crying (or having another child) over, what you've never had you'll never miss!
Rubbish!  [:D]  [:D] It's a well known career move down a well trodden path for many young ladies in the UK.  [:P]
8. In church I heard a lady in the pew next to me saying a prayer. It was so sweet and sincere that I just had to share with you:- "Dear Lord, This has been a tough two or three years.   You have taken my favourite actor Patrick Swayze.   My favourite pop singer Michael Jackson.   My favourite Blues Singer Amy Winehouse.   My favourite actress Elizabeth Taylor.   And now my favourite singer Whitney Houston.   I just wanted you to know that my favourite politicians are  Ed Miliband, Tony Blair, Nick Clegg, Ed Balls, Gordon Brown & John Bercow."
9.
One upmanship about speaking french, moi. I  have a great sense of achievement about my poor french, because EVERYBODY who choses to move to France as a full time resident should learn french. ....... you should see what they sent me yesterday a gift that was far too much,
I think I know where you're coming from but it doesn't come across very well.   [:)] Around these parts it's also called bragging.
10. I don't know why but the Spanish prune their olive trees after harvest  and immediately burn the prunings.
11. A bit like Clarkson, you either liked or  hated him. The  back page of the ST Review section doesn't seem the same without him, especially the Hymie jokes. Don't forget he only wrote his last column at Christmas. R I P.
12.
Yes it would be great if social charges were lower here - but they're not, and I knew the score when I moved. Live and let live, horses for courses and all that.
I think you're missing part of the point MOZMAN is making. France is already seeing taxes/social costs rising. Will you be as content as you currently are when you see the massive increase in State employee numbers that your taxes will be funding?
13.
Thank you both.  No hubby drove me up there in our own car on Monday, did a return journey on Tuesday in blizzard conditions (non claimable) and then he battled the snow to get back up to collect me yesterday. Will send it to CPAM. Thanks again. Suey
Do we take that as two return journeys you are claiming and not just one?
14.  We asked our doctor to sign in 2007 when we renewed. No problem and no cost.  [:D]
15. If you used your own transport CPAM.
16. As andyh4 says it's straightforward Physio. The methods used may vary to the UK but the end result is the same.
17.
No sign of the photo now! The police beat me to it. x
The silly thing is it was already in the public domain.
18. PaulT This BBC article reporting Jessops float in 2004 seems to give a different slant on things than your point of view. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/business/3726034.stm
19. Don't mess with us old ones. We have all the time in the World.   [:P] It's nice to see I'm not the only one to keep records. As Rh says it becomes apparent in a fairly short space of time where the money goes. We threw away a satsuma (gone bad in the box). Mind you the braised little gem lettuces that were past their best weren't a roaring success.  [+o(] Here's another one for you PaulT. Never ever accept an insurance renewal without going on to more than one comparison website to check for cheaper quotes.
20. Thanks for the additional information, especially the "history". As a non-techie I'm struggling to cope with the move from Windows Vista Home Basic to Windows 8 so I have enough on my plate without having to worry too much about the sources of software.   [:D]
21. Thank you for that quick response. I've just bought a new laptop and never pay for application programmes. My wp/ssheet requirements are fairly basic and I've used Open Office for some time now so I don't want to start using different software. New tricks and old dogs,
22. Quick question. Is Apache Open Office the same as Open Office, the free application from Google?
23. As many of you have remembered it was Sunday Driver and it was MAAF. Armed with his experience I approached our top up provider, AXA, to ask for a reduction given Mrs Benjamin's ALD. No way, was the answer. A short time after this we discovered that as Mrs Benjamin was also classified as "disabled" so all of her medical costs (bar things like daily hospital fees and prescriptions reimbursed at less than the standard rate (vignette colour) ) were covered 100%. Off I trotted but was again told no way. As Hereford is thinking we then decided to take Mrs Benjamin off cover at the next renewal date and take our chances. We never paid out anything as it so happens as we were beginning to pay out, like others, quite a lot.
24. I think we're coming from the same direction Chancer. As a youngster I was deputy to someone who, when challenged in a meeting, would come out with something like "I suggest you look at my memo dated.........". Never failed! They walked in to it every time. Taught me a lesson which I've remembered, and used, all my life. It's just a shame in France you have to always pay for the priveledge proving they received it.
25.
I've been told the local garage is a bit pricey
Unless you're a competent mechanic your local garagiste is your friend. Sure, he may be a bit more than the national chains but then he can be a lot more flexible and helpful. I first of all took my camper to him because the F**t dealer in the nearest town was known for being unhelpful. We got on well and I tried him for my next car service with a very satisfactory outcome, Remember, his clientele is very local: he can't afford to do a bad job or very soon he wont have a business.
