1. the boy stood on the burning deck his pocket full of crackers one went off between his legs and blew off both his knac*** :) , I'll get may coat!
2. I know someone in the same position, had two or three good years but this one the orders have dropped off, I posted about it on another forum, advice so far has been, your  accountant should talk to the RSI, with a comment that the acc is being lazy if he has not already. Apparently, the Chambre de commerce sent out a block email asking them to get in contact with them if the business was in difficulties. As you have said, ridiculous, what if you have an even quieter year?
3. quite common and still in use today, similar style brick is also used for internal walls, see below: http://www.bouyer-leroux.com/catalogue-produits/briques-de-plafond.html
4.
Thanks for the information. I understood that vets are supposed to issue prescriptions if asked, but when I spoke to the vet we use in France, she refused, saying that the matter of vets' prescriptions was "under discussion". I have checked with MedicAnimal and they tell me that they will deliver some medication in France, with a French vet's prescription, or they will deliver to a UK address on a UK vet's prescription. They are cheaper than buying from the vet, but more expensive to buy the items for delivery in France than in UK. I think the best thing to do is to try a different vet to see if I can get a prescription there. I'll also have a word with the pharmacist when we're in France this summer. Our pharmacist here in UK will dispense some items on a vet's prescription, but not all of them are available. Price is about half what the vet charges. Thanks again for your help.
Try another vet, my vet gives me a prescription that states the quantity, dosage etc. this means I can take that anywhere to acquire the medicine. there is no time limit on it it says the particular treatment is a permanent thing, ask another vet.

Wisteria
I've had a wisteria that hasn't flowered at all for 3 years, it's growing nicely and seems to like the place we've put it but I understand that to have one that flowers often is to have a grafted one. What would I be looking for on a label please in a French garden centre to explain it's grafted.
Ours was like yours, we planted it and although it grew furiously it didn't flower, then after about 5 years it burst into life I read somewhere that it can take 7 years for a young plant to begin to flower link to RHS
6. Try looking at B&YOU (bouygtel), SOSH (orange/FT), FREE. SFR do one as well but can't remember what they call it RED I think. These all came about when Free started up the cheap mobile phone service and forced the other main players to provide something similar.  I use B&YOU probably only because I was already with Bouyg. For 9.99E I get unlimited Texts unlimited calls to fixed and mobile phones in france plus 20meg internet. For 19.99 you get the same calls but also includes calls to fixed lines in about 100 countries plus some American mobiles and an incrrease in internet to 3gigabyte (after which the speed is reduced). I think most of the others are around about the same. B&Y can be cancelled at any time. These are all internet based and as far as I am aware the shops don't mention or advertise them as they want to sell you an all singing all dancing contract for 1 or 2 years at 50 odd euros a month! (you do however generally get a free or subsidized phone) The all do a prepay sim only service too. I don't go abroad often just the odd visit to see my mum in the UK the phone has always worked there without having to arrange it as I used to, always get a text (well lots of them actually) as soon as the phone roams onto the UK network telling me how much calls will cost both making and receiving plus the cost of sending texts and MMS. So far I am happy with them I am saving nearly 12 euros a month compared to my last contract Hope this helps
7. In the absence of any replies so far, yes vets here do issue prescriptions, I just go along to the vet with it when I need more pills. I have not tied an online drug supplier as the pills my little mut has are only 15 euros. Mrs P did look online once but found them no cheaper. It is a long time since I have used a vet in the UK but when I came here I always felt they charge a lot less than the UK
8. Ah! I hadn't notice the Canada connection, if indeed mum is in Canada then my offering is of no consiquence (certainly the top up ehic bit) OP we need more info to offer good advice
9. I used this company when my 82 year old mother came to visit,  a top up policy that will cover the parts not rembursed by the EHIC/CEAM card they do Travel insurance too. http://www.exclusivehealthcare.com/index.php
10. Strangely enough I have just tried to do mine, I have 2 links bookmarked, one direct to Net E and the other the AE website, I found the same problem that you described 'password incorrect' that was the Net E (http://www.net-entreprises.fr/start.aspx) site. I then tried my other bookmarked link (http://www.lautoentrepreneur.fr/) clicked on declare button and it went in fine. The latter of the two links is the one I use habitually. I could of course have made a mistake first time round on NetE but just thought I would mention it as a possible solution
11. I have a B&Y forfait, I am charged to send sms to a UK mobile, You won't be charged to send to a french mobile (assuming sms is unlimited) that is in another country. I doubt there is much difference in the policy between prepay card and forfait.
12. Don't recall ABBA being involved!! Bee gees http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ILxjxfB4zNk Take a look at some of the 'I've been Vinnied' vids
13. Couldn't see a way of embeding a picture directly into a post Jpeg file of info for sat freqs Edit ...... if all else fails do a search on the forum
14. In the days when I looked after a lot of gites some of the owners would supply protectors that were 'crinkly' and noisy! regularly found them stuffed in the corner of the room so the soft ones are the ones to go for if you can find them.
15. Our local HyperU now has a notice that they will not take a cheque for more than 200 euros, the transaction must be done by card! bit of a bugger if you only have a low limit on your card
16. I am not one for big ex-pat type of get togethers, I've dipped my toe into most of them over the years but rarely go back. I wondered if it some sort of deeply ingrained herding thing sort of comfort of the familiar. Last week I had to go to the company AGM this involves 300 or so of my colleagues from 2 factories one here in the Vendee and the other in dept 49 the coffee break and after meeting buffet saw everybody all mixed up so to speak but gradually the little groups started to evolve, two very distinct ones, the two factories, then within those groups sub-groups of people mainly consisting of individual departments within the factories. I'm sure some psycho-annalist would have some explanation for this behaviour. Going back a bit on this thread the french are forever winging about colleagues in the canteen I just wonder what they are saying about me when I am not there, I have had on one occasion one of my colleagues winging to my boss about me that really Peed me off, if I had done something wrong then he should have said to me Grrrrrr PS I'm a 6'3" lorry driver  well 2 out of three ain't bad Mrs P doesn't have to hide her lingerie mind you she goes for comfy these days
17. Not sure someone else will confirm or not , but I think there is a form to send with the 'bon de transport' if you have driven yourself, you need to know the Kms and the 'puissance' of your vehicle. http://www.ameli.fr/fileadmin/user_upload/formulaires/S3140.pdf this is the form I have seen in the past
18. Like you say 'no brainer!' I have been using a 19.00euro contract with Bouygues for a number of years, that gave me 45mins of calls to french landlines and french mobiles, plus 200 or so texts. internet was extra as was calls to europe. I have just changed to B&You 19.99 so now have unlimited calss french landlines and mobiles, unlimited landlines europe, 3Mb internet reduced debit after, unlimited SMS/MMS. Calls to USA inluding mobile (not that I know anyone with a USA mobile!) but still I am paying roughly the same price with more options available, just need to avoid calling UK mobiles. Good to see they are doing a prepay now that doesn't run out, think orange was the first in the UK to do that? I have never grasped the fact that a company could be so forward thinking in one country and so backward in another ?????
19. Just as an aside, If the OP is a registered business in the UK, why can't he just give them a quote and at the end an invoice? The reason I pose this is over the years the company I work for has had various works going on, all of which have been carried out by companies outside of France, Belgium, Italy, Germany, and some of the labourers were Polish and Bulgarian. Perhaps these companies have had other contracts witin France so all the hoops have been jumped through already! EU free trade and all that, yes, I know this is France :-)
20. Give this company a call they may have what you are looking for and at worst would be able to advise you, mini tractors are very expensive in france even second hand ones, http://www.compact-tractor-sales.co.uk/
21. I have to arrange a site visit between a friend and my bosses at work rencontrer seems to be more of an of chance meeting where as (se) réunir seems to be more of an organised meeting I know at work when we have operational meetings it is a 'réunion' so I suspect I already know the answer just thought I would ask what I am asking is along the lines of, The owner of the property will be arriving on such and such date and would like to organise a meeting (I would use réunion here)  at the site is it possible to meet (here rencontrer or (se) réunir) on the 1st of april? It is just a quick email, and we normal don't use formal ie vous so can dispence of all the usual polite letter endings I think!
22. I'm keeping my head down at work today [:)] no doubt I will be told England cheated!! I remember being told once when england beat France largely due to Johnnie W kicking drop goals that we weren't play properly and they felt it was cheating!! they are such bad losers the French [8-)]
23. I think this year 2012 a horses name should start with the letter "C" so colic might be very apt :-) Photo please
24. pretty car, but the boot doesn't look very big for those doggies? Kia have certainly upped their game in recent years , sister has had a few over the years all of them were very reliable
