1. I can only find one reference to this, here , and it does indeed seem to be related to the Canard Enchaîné.  Or was that where you saw it too?
2. At the moment no one in France is forced to have the vaccination, let's hope it stays that way. Saw an interesting piece on how other European countries feel about the vaccine on Telematin this morning, apparently the take up of the vaccine in Germany is only 1 in 10, mainly due to this scandal.
3. Seems it is lo longer operational http://www.completefrance.com/cs/forums/1688661/ShowPost.aspx
4.
Most intelligent people understand me, if there is something you do not comprehend in that sentence please feel free to ask.
Nothing in that particular sentence Dog.
5.

If I get it, I get it. If I die from it, I die from it. C'est la vie.
Obviously, it's much easier for those of us not particularly at risk, to be philosophical about it...[6].
For me, it would depend on the type of risk.  In an occupation that exposed me to a greater risk of contracting the virus, then I would not take the jab.  If I suffered from anything that would make the risk of secondary infections particularly dangerous, than I would have the jab.  In fact, if I'm going to catch the damn thing, I'd prefer to do it sooner than later anyway.

7. No As H1N1 is now reported as having about the same fatality rate as"normal" flu, I can't see the point (in my case).
8. Near Montpellier, an armed man breaks into the home of university professor, pours petrol on his wife and son, but is overpowered by his victim, who then strangles him. http://www.midilibre.com/articles/2009/10/20/DERNIERE-MINUTE-HERAULT-Pour-proteger-sa-famille-le-professeur-tue-son-agresseur-966130.php5 Shortened google English version
9. Could it be saltpeter (salpêtre)? http://www.completefrance.com/cs/forums/555851/ShowPost.aspx
10. Was it mentioned in the contract that the sale was subject to you obtaining a mortgage?  Do you have written proof that the mortgage was refused? If the answer to both these questions is yes, you should be in the clear.
11. A revised version of the HADOPI law was voted in on May 13th, but then declared "unconstitutional" by the French constitutional council on June 10th, as they insisted that only a judge could impose the penalties. The bill was then altered, and resubmitted at the end of September, with the stipulation that file-swappers would receive 2 warnings, and then be referred to a judge for decision on fines and withdrawal of internet access.  The new bill has been accepted by the National Assembly and the Senate. It may still be challenged by the constitutional council.
12. I think the real problem is that although farmers are not seeing a profit (or are making a loss) on their produce, the big supermarket chains still manage to cream off quite a nice percentage.  The farmers want the government to help them out with financial aid, but a fairer approach would be to force supermarket giants to pay a fair price for the produce in the first place. Why should the state subsidise supermarket profits?
13. Shipping fee scams, 2,950,000 (and rising) reasons not to get caught out by them.
14. I've been using hydrocortisone 1% ointment on and off for the last 20 years, and it's the first I've heard of a 1 month bin by date.  A small tube lasts me at least six months, and still "does what it says on the tin" (and nothing has dropped off, withered away, or turned blue after the tube has been open for more than a month)  [:)]

16. Try here, average time 1 hr 20 minutes, cost roughly 9 € http://www.voyages-sncf.com/
17. I'm just wondering why you searched out a year old thread to post your link to BigDan [8-)]
18. You could try 0800 959111 EDIT, I think the 1077 number is only for existing neufbox users, could be wrong though.
19. Say that again when you've tried all of them Leo [:P]
20. The vaccination campaign should start mid October, that's when the 1st deliveries of the vaccine will be delivered (and then on-screen text saying that the 1st doses were delivered 27th August, from Baxter, and then a recorded phone interview saying that the doses did come from Baxter).  Baxter (a pharmaceutical company) confirmed that they issued a product in February, accidentally contaminated with live H5N1 virus.  It was a mixture of seasonal flu virus and H5N1.  It was a sub-contractor that 1st realised the mistake, after ferrets that were injected with the vaccine died. EDIT, missed a bit:  Baxter patented a method of producing viral vaccines, including swine flu vaccine in August 2008, and a provisional application was lodged a year earlier in August 2007.  The first outbreak of identified swine flu in Mexico didn't occur until March 2009.  The video asks why did Mme Bachelot (French minister of health) order the vaccine from Baxter in July?  And also why the video "Danger, Baxter vaccine in France" was deleted from Dailymotion? The concern of the makers of the video is that a 2nd expected wave of outbreaks may be due to vaccinations themselves. The video mention that the facts are already known, and that a journalist, Helen Branswell, has published the information.  I found this http://www.torontosun.com/news/canada/2009/02/27/8560781.html
21. I didn't see any, but I could hear them an hour ago.
22. Oooh, you pipped me at the post Clair, I was just about to post about Cantal Vieux. A lovely rich tasting, nutty, slightly crumbly cheese, and IMHO much nicer than most mass produced Cheddars
23. Here is the proposed legislation, part of the "Grenelle 2" project, which has been accepted by the Sénat http://ameli.senat.fr/publication_pl/2008-2009/553.html  EDIT, and here is what the president of the association of the architectes des bâtiments de France has to say about it http://www.archi.fr/ANABF/documents/Le_Monde_29012009.pdf

25.
The other quote from that sad episode was perhaps "Too little knowledge is a dangerous thing..." The 'scumbag' may not have acted in this way if the police had some time before advised him that he had no oustanding warrants.
If they couldn't find the "scumbag", who had disappeared whilst on bail for his previous offences (not having a valid driving license, reckless driving, resisting arrest and carrying a concealed weapon) to serve the arrest warrant, how could they have been expected to find him to advise him that it had been cancelled?
