1. Here here woolley....  Nasty indeed, who really cares about these things is not worth sympathy. Get a life. [:D]
2. When I was in England, it was all the scroates and pimps too that had flashy cars as credit was so easily accessible and cash. Every day brought another 0 percent offer to the door. To show off your wealth (or credit limit) for appearances sake, is not an attractive site in any country.   I guess some are paying for it now and there are those that are easily impressed. That's what is sad.
3. [:D][:)][:D] Nice one woolley.
4. Yeah this happened to me except I had about four all oozing yuk! Someone told me they were spider bites.[:'(]
5.

Might she have been winding you up? Mark you I have known a fair few round the places I've been who sound similar. Some survive. Most don't
Two retired British couples in our village: one pair lived in Spain but found the heat down South too much, so moved here and the other got lost on the way to Spain, spent the night in the South Vendée, liked it so much they decided to stay. Neither of these couples spoke a word of French and speak precious little now. But they bedded in very well and have been here over three years now. I think they get on so well BECAUSE their expectations of integration were so limited. Two couples with children who did all their homework, learnt a fair bit of French and had high hopes of integrating in short order lasted less than two years and moved back to the UK. I’m not drawing any firm conclusions from this, but the observation, I think, is interesting.
Yeah don't learn French, ignorance is bliss!!![:D]   Georgina

7. Thanks Powerdesal for the laugh!!![:)]
8. It's okay, Emily you come, don't worry, you will only be slightly less popular than us Brits.[:)]
9. Hey Grecian, I am from West Yorkshire, and I posted the same question.  I also could not get a straight answer out of Nationwide, hence why I asked on here.  So far I am really happy with the account.  Seemed too good to be true, being from West Yorkshire and all, did not believe it, - was waiting for the catch, relax, there isn't one.  [:)] Georgina
10. http://brittany.angloinfo.com/forum/topic.asp?topic_id=74558 One for sale here.  Not me I might add.
11. Okay, give us all a clue - Jackie Kennedy??? Or is this a private thing?>
12. School holidays in a couple of weeks..... [:)]
13. I have just paid 20 per cent for a non operation overnight stay = E160 - not a private hospital.  Bit of a shock this was.[:'(]  but well worth it.
14. No i do not think it is just Australians, I believe some people just cannot understand why anyone would do anything for nothing,  because that is the way they are.  I remember in England, ringing up a neighbour a few doors down, at work to tell her that their car was flashing its lights.  I thought their battery would go flat.  They shouted at me for bothering them, and made out that I was ringing to complain - it left me rather flabbergasted.[8-)]  No really it is beyong comprehension to some that you mean well, sad really. Sign of the times but one reason for living in France eh?
15. Sounds like he has bought himself a Playstation 3, men eh??? [:)] Take it back and buy yourself some earrings Georgina
16. Belle, I have tinnitus (constant ringing in the ears), and when it first started, the only noise that would let me sleep was the sound of frogs in a tropical forest. So I got a tape and played it whilst I slept. I would have given my right arm, to just hear that noise because the other alternative can drive you nuts. However when I stopped concentrating on the noise and had a distracting one, my brain adjusted - I still have the tinnitus but I don't concentrate on it, i think maybe you can do that with the frogs if you try. At least it is not permanent. [:)] Georgina
17. It's amazing how many things are called tampons.  I feel sorry for any poor French DIYist in say B & Q in the UK.  What they must end up putting the paint on with...... [:D] Georgina
18. I know this probably is not helping but there has been an outcry in Britain about the number of foreign vehicles on the roads getting away with allsorts, hence why the police, unless it is immediately obvious, will not let anyone go without them proving themselves totally or being available at a later date for questioning.  I think if they do not readily find all this information, they are having a bit of a spate and if you cannot prove your address have the right to take you in.  I know from several friends in the UK that it has got out of hand recently with all the dodgers and they are clamping down on the tax big time.  I am not saying that you are dodging at all but it would explain their behaviour.  I also noticed on a recent visit how few old bangers were on the roads lately, which was immediately apparent.  Anyone who is sent on a Sunday from a solicitors, even if they are not experienced in European law, should be able to access the correct informationto help your case through their firm. 19. These people know every trick in the book, if they go to court, they sometimes know more than the solicitors about their rights and the loopholes, and boy do they use them.  They know how to cheat the systems and that is passed down generations, the kids do not have a chance, they are brainwashed into that way of thinking the minute they are born into thinking that society owes them.  They pop out and the first words they learn aren't mummy daddy, its 'benefit' and milk tokens. 23. I have a debit card which I pay E32 per month. I can also use a cheque book. There is no other charge.  However if I wanted an overdraft they would charge me  5 euros per month, are you sure you have not accepted an overdraft facility?  You just have a debit card, not a credit card? You should just be paying for the debit card at around E32 depending on the branch. I use Britline, the Brit speaking arm of CA. Georgina
24. If you are not bothered about being popular, get some large boulders, make them heavy. Just today, I had another two dogs in my garden whilst the owner casually strolled down the street.  She seems to think as she has done this all her life then it is okay for them to drop one in my garden every day.  It's the mentality of some I am afraid though thankfully not all. Georgina
25. I loved the fact that M Sarkozy at the banquet was so thrilled to be there, he could hardly contain himself!!! He was grinning in all the wrong places when everyone else was looking stern and serious. He had trouble stifling his cough during the Queen's speech which must have been terribly embarrassing.  I would have thought Carla was trying to look virginal so as to deflect the attention from herself and rightly so. We don't want Carla to become another Diana. Georgina
