1. My tax office stated I had completed tax form correctly last year. This was as per sunday drivers post. I intend to complete it the same this year. Previously for 16 years I completed it as per Norman H but I was notified last year of the change.
2. To receive French TV via sattelite you will need a TNT sat box plus card and dish pointing at Astra 1 . To receive UK TV you will need either a Freesat box or a Sky box and dish pointing at Astra 2 I am not aware of any box which combines the two but that is not to say there is not..
3. As advice on the internet is ambiguous or contradictory ,apparently, why not pop along to your tax office and ask them. That is if you believe this advice is neither ambiguous or contradictory, if not then just ignore it.
4.

You do write some incomprehensible sh1te PPP ! Just for the record is English your 1st language or are you trying to prove something ???
I think he's trying to impress us. As far as I'm concerned, he's failing.
The post to which you refer contained a constructive receipt element AND an actual receipt element reflecting the two navel gazing conflicting ideologies of the thread.
Absolutly.
5. If you were not responsible for the sale not taking place presumably the vendor was. If that is the case there should have been a penalty clause written into the contract (normally10%) payable by the vendor if they withdraw from the sale. Nor should you be liable for the notaires fees. Perhaps, as is often the case, the agent does not have a scooby about French law. However the fact that you received nothing from the notaire could mean that they are pursuing the vendor
6. I have taken my pension payments (paid in euros gross) for year 2011 and have come up with an average of 1.15 € to the £
7. It is a misconception that the deposit can be returned instantaneously. It can only be returned with the express agreement of the other party. If this is not forthcoming then litigation is the only way forward.
8. Get them here, but only at certain times.
9. Can I ask the point of the post, especially the quip about the check out persons being foreign. ,Do I detect a whiff of Xenophobia
10. Perhaps the Scots should seek compo for the invasion and destruction of property in 1314
11. Possible a politically correct area, does such a place exist in France
12. Very true but nothing forces me to respect those views.
13. It will not apply to England and Wales as they have opted out .Was your quip about suicide an attempt at being funny or are you just a natural boor
14. You did say Unless you are French resident, or at least have a genuine French address, you cannot register a vehicle in France which in effect means that no UK resident could ever register an imported car. This flies completely in the face of EU rules for the free movement of goods. Then you denied saying it by saying Yep but I never said otherwise when I pointed out that they were not breaching EU rules but in fact complying with them
15.
Sorry wrong again. The DVLA will have no problem with this any more than a prefecture will have when registering a vehicle with a UK V5C in a previous owners name. Unless you are French resident, or at least have a genuine French address, you cannot register a vehicle in France which in effect means that no UK resident could ever register an imported car. This flies completely in the face of EU rules for the free movement of goods.
The DVLA will demand proof that you are the legal owner if your name is not on the registration document. I have been there done it got the T shirt. EU rules on vehicle registration states that vehicles must be registered in the country of residence so EU rules are not being broken, Wrong again Another ,you need to tighten up on your knowledge base.
16.
I expect the reason the UK has opted out because the law there is that you can leave your estate to whomever you like already so it's irrelevant!
Scotland has it's own Inheritance laws and you cannot disinherit ,a widow/widower/civil partner have prior rights and children have legal rights.I do not know the situation in N Ireland. So bang goes your reason.
17. He would appear to still stay at the address given ,according to the telephone book, the carte grise appears to be genuine and the lines etc are standard practice. Not all French are au fait with all the rules, just as all Brits are not aware of eevery law. Just phone the person confirm they sold car and ask them for a certificate of cession ,job done. Phone number 0561810711
18. Mine is not it is a pretty pink colour since being in the washing machine.
19. Probably a Xmas bonus, try before you buy ,or a whoopsee
20. It is highly doubtful if DVLA will reregister a vehicle in a name other than on the carte gris so your suggestion is just not workable. However, if after establishing who the original owner is then a cert of cession could be obtained from them, there is no point in "what if's" except if you want to be a pedant.
21. It is all very simple.Ask the current owner for a copy of the carte gris. Then contact the person named on the carte gris, have him/her complete the required documentation and you can then register the car in France. There is no need to go the silly route suggested by another, the DVLA will want an MOT which will entail new headlights UK insurance etcetc in fact all sorts of grief.
22. In the real world, following an accident while towing, the insurance expert will examine the tow bar to establish whether it conforms.
23. A Gite is self catering accommodation A Chambre dhote is a bed and breakfast
