1. This was from a post Will made in January   "Just a reminder that problems with intractable CPAM officials can often get sorted via the English-speaking help line, 0820 90 42 12. Even if you don't really need the English speaking aspect, the people on the phone are used to dealing with the sort of problems that the British encounter n France. 2. Nick. Thanks for the speedy and informative reply, hopefully that will save me a few euros, getting the utilities connected have cost enough already.   What do think about the extra coffret back to back with the EDF one? Most new builds around here over the 30m rule seem to have them, is it a regional thing? I was told in the early stages of the build that we would require this extra coffret and disjoncteur and then EDF would make their final connection to this, after getting the certificate from the Consuel. I am just about to go up to the land to see if EDF have been, I paid them for the work last November, apparently only 6 months wait is a good result. [:D]   EDIT: EDF have beeen today and fitted what looks like a coffret with 4 compartments 2 on one side and 2 on the other side. if that helps.
3. I have not read through it all, but is it not talking about if the deceased lived in France?[:)]
4. We are nearing completion on our new build house and EDF are coming tomorrow to fit the meter! The house is more than 30 m from the EDF meter (40 m) and I know that they will not connect up to the house, and that, it is our responsibility to get this done at our cost. What I would like to know is it something I can get a friend to do? He is a fully qualified UK electrician, he lives but does not work in France and would be doing me a favour,  the gaine is in place, the tableau and all the house electrics have been done by the building company. I believe that we need to supply a coffret back to back with the EDF meter and a disjoncteur. Maybe someone can give me the full facts regarding this. I have had some quotes of over €2000 to do the job, which for a simple connection at each end and to supply & pull 40m of cable through the gaine I find excessive. Any input would be appreciated. Thanks in advance. Les
5. "It's a longere we are buying, and want to keep the place looking 'nice' rather than borded up when we are not there." If it was an insurance requirement, why are they not fitted already?  The house must be a good few years old.[8-)]
6. "I've seen looks so much narrower than the old stuff that I wonder if it would be possible to push it through the existing pipe." I have seen this done in France, hard work to get it through but could be worthwhile.
7. Our favourite? Without a doubt Jean-Luc Fau at Gouts et Couleurs. Why? The dining experience at Le Moulin (and Le Vieux Pont) is swisher and I think one might be able to argue that the cooking is "better" (at least at Le Vieux Pont) ... BUT Gouts et Couleurs is the place to put a smile on your face. Two small examples from the meal we had last night (menu saison €48): You are out of my league at €48 for a bit of grub, we can eat a 3 course including wine at Ma Maison in Sauvetat Sur Dropt (47) excellent quality for less than €30[kiss]
8.
When we first came out to France, we invested in a copy of 'Larousse Gastronomique', a weighty volume which seemed ideal for those of us living/cooking in France - just about every cooking method, foodstuff, description that we were unfamiliar with - there it was, in English, with the full description, history (and often a relevant quote from French literature to boot!) and nice colour pictures.  Invaluable!
But did it answer the posters question?[6]

Applying for E106?

Bob, I think you should re-read the posts[:D]
10. Was the €6000 for the UK reg car or the roof?[:D]
11. Have a look at the FAQ on E106 at the top of the page[:)]
12. You need to get the trailer registered. http://www.code-route.com/code_immatriculation.htm
13. Because having an MOT done and registering a vehicle are two different things, anyone can present a vehicle LHD or RHD for an MOT  and no questions need to be asked if it going to be registered in the UK, it just needs to meet the current MOT regulations nothing to with type approval etc.
14. If he's retiring with a pension at 53, will he have a service pension police/millitary etc. or a civil service pension? If so these will be taxed in the UK but need to be declared on your French tax return.
15.  "it will need RHD headlamps and a mph speedo to be fitted before it can be MOT'd " I have to disagree with that, I was a Mot Tester in the UK and we could pass a foreign vehicle, if they had put tape on the headlights to mask the full beam, no mention of the speedo being in MPH.
16. If the other codes don't work try this link: http://www.sjstv.co.uk/skycodes.html
17. I think maybe they will estimate your day time useage and send you a bill, we had the same problem with our meter; but the other way around no night time usage showing on the meter, they sent us a refund.
18. Do you have the magnifer turned on? Click on, programs, accessories, magnifier.
19. This question was asked a few months ago, maybe you can find the replies using the search facility[:D]
20. A kit de distribution is the timing belt plus the tensioners and rollers, a Timing belt kit in English.
21.
Check out Virgin PAYG recharges and validity, Nick, they're on the Orange network. Funny, but when I check my nrj credit bought prior to Oct, it expires end December, not next March........anyone else checked? Steve
You are correct it is the end of December, December 2030 (deux mille trente)[:D]
22.
Mairies can be equally lax, and I don't think TU's is at all unusual in not being very efficient. I bet many people have cadastral plans for their houses that have been out of date for years and nobody has noticed. I don't know where the real, reliable, master copies would be kept - I know the mairie should have current ones, but it seems many don't. Maybe the DDE?
If anyone wants an up-to-date or a larger scale plan cadastral they should go to their local Hôtel Des Impôts office.
23.
I believe that, for some strange reason, you can only get a written forecast rather than an online one if you are overseas - though that might have changed since we did ours.
Will's right, if you live overseas you can fill in the form online but you have to print it off and then sign it, before you can snail mail it to the UK.
24. Why did you cancel it so early? It would have been better to get quotes from the other company's and when you get the renewal notice from your present insurance company you could make the decision then.
