1.
Well we sent off the resiliation to Alice,   and then - as advised - applied for Orange Decouuverte 15 days before the end date for Alice,  ie 15th April. Within 24 hours we've been cut off completely.   Alice say that it's FT/Orange disconnecting them from us and there's nothing they can do (in spite of the fact they "win" two weeks abonnement from us) ,   but I have no access code or password from Orange,   (not surprising,   they probably send it by post).  I can't use the internet to seek assistance,  so I'm really enmerdé. PLEASE could someone with Orange ADSL post a technical assistance phone number here so that I can ring them and find out what is going on. Yesterday one of our neighbours died,   and with no cheap phone/Skype  access now I'm really fed up with the situation. Thanks
Martin, thhis happened exactly the same to me. I was cut off from Alice the day after ordering the Orange. I had not yet recieved my livebox so I was annoyed too. Anyway, you have your own router so all you need are the codes which they can give you over the phone even though you will receive them in a letter soon. At least it also means your Orange line is activated.... Call  3900 from within France they are open all weekend unlike the English speaking service. You may have to choose the department vocally or wait a bit and enter the number for the service commercial. You only need two codes to set up your access. One indentifiant ADSL which starts fti/******** the other is a ADSL password of about 8 letters or numbers. They gave me these over the phone so just insist. Danny PS you don't need the technical help, the commercial people will give you the necessary info.
2. Hi Martin, http://www.lcd-compare.com/televiseur-SAMUE22D5000-SAMSUNG-UE22D5000.htm I found this site useful for advice, best prices, real customer reviews and reliable info on all the current tellys Danny
3.
Better still if I could find a dual SIM flip phone - hate the ones with open fronts because they get damaged in the bottom of my bag.
what are you waiting for Deb? Not really you??? http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Quad-band-Dual-SIM-Disney-Mickey-Flip-Phone-MP3-MP4-FM-/320664158037 more conventional http://www.nextmobilephones.com/philips-xenium-x216-dual-sim-clamshell-phone Danny [Www]
4. Martin, I haven't used the Netgear modem but I have read that you may have to adjust the settings for wifi if you need to use it or re-install the Netgear modem on the computer(s) in France if it has already been used in the UK. There are different settings for different countries apparently. see here further down on this thread http://www.totalfrance.com/france/forum/viewtopic.php?t=102451 good luck Danny
5.
Has anyone tried this method for fixing lines on plasmas? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7nwVQ2yWnBY
I think you will get better results if you call them up [:D] they were very good when I helped someone with a faulty computer monitor still just inside the 3 year guarantee. They came out within 2 days on site with a replacement and took the faulty one away. Danny
6. and don't tick the 'recharge automatique mensuelle' - unless you want a monthly top up of course. Danny
7. Or you can send a blank text (this is free) to 950 and you will recive one back telling you your credit Danny
8. I think you mean 12607 Vertical 27500 unless they are doing another frequency too......no? Danny
9. Thank you Chrissie, that confirms that you are not going to get any faster than about 1 Mb speed..... even if you change your modem for a livebox or other modem/router. [:(]Never mind. Danny
10. Chrissie, can you try to test your line here: www.degrouptest.com enter your telephone number only and click on TESTER When the results appear, scroll down the page a little and click on 'plus de détails'. Copy all the parts on the left under 'Informations techniques' and post the results here. That will give us more info on the line capabilities. EDIT EDIT Don't copy and post the box with the star which says 'Être informé en cas de changement....' as this displays your telephone number. EDIT EDIT also where it says Opérateurs - Offres FT Internet IP/ADSL can you post the results from the first column? On the line 'Code Commutateur Local', click on 'fiche détailée'and copy and post the bits in the table that says 'Offres France Télécom disponibles sur ce NRA' as well. Danny
11.
Jane and Danny, Please explain how, if it is not a setting within the box, the account is automatically opened. It is not a cookie on the computer, the server cannot guess who has just connected but it can recognise the internet connection password and automatically connect to the account. Setting up another a/c does not stop a third party from accessing the connection owner's account but it does give a way of logging out each time.
JK, It is not a cookie and it is not a setting in the livebox either, it is a setting on the Orange site. If you have only one account - your 'compte principal' - then it open automatically without any login/password as it recognises your internet connection to Orange. If you do not want this to happen you need to create a second user/email account and then once you log in to either (assuming that you don't tick the box which says 'mémoriser le mot de passe') and then close your window, you will then need to re-enter your password the next time you want to access your account. You do not need to use the second user account but must keep it there. If you delete the second user account, you will then be automatically identified again. http://assistance.orange.fr/ne-pas-etre-automatiquement-identifie-sur-orange-fr-544.php "Setting up another a/c does not stop a third party from accessing the connection owner's account but it does give a way of logging out each time" I don't quite understand what you mean here. It does stop access as you have to use your password to log in. Danny
12. it is recommended to do a factory reset but this is slightly different for each model livebox. http://assistance.orange.fr/livebox-remise-a-zero-3135.php It is very important to have your adsl code and password handy as Quillan says otherwise you cannot set it up again. Danny
13. It is not a setting on or in the livebox. It does not matter which model livbox you use.  As An0ther said earlier (on the fourth post) you need to create a second user/email account in your espace client and then you will no longer be logged in automatically. Danny
14. Clair some reading here http://assistance.sfr.fr/internet_neufbox-de-SFR/connexion/brancher-un-disque-dur-ou-cle-usb-neufbox/fc-463-70371 I am not sure if you need to access by password or not but why don't you try it with some ramdom files on with just your computers connected and see how it works. Sorry, I can't find any other useful info. Check the settings page for the périphériques de stockage to see if there are any choices about who to share with. It may be that you  need to unplug the hard drive from the neufbox when you have anyone else connected. Danny
15. it sounds like you already have 'Découverte Internet' But the cost of this is now 21 euros per month from 1st feb 2011. check your recent bills to see what your package is called and the price. It would be useful to know exactly what it says in your espace client/ ma formule i.e decouverte internet 8M(1M) for example. If you do have this package, you can rent a livebox from Orange or buy and use your own modem/router if you want. But as Albet says you need to make sure that your computer has a network slot to connect to. As for the deconnections, there are some possible causes listed here. http://assistance.orange.fr/deconnexions-intempestives-des-modems-adsl-usb-106.php most of these are caused by settings on your computer or your line - other phones, filters, fax machines, telephone extension leads etc On the conputer, for example, Energy saving settings which switch off the modem after a certain time. Go through all the suggestions on the page at tyhe link above and see if there is any improvement. Danny
16. Quillan, That'a a bit late, seeing as the prices changed on 1st February - two months have already been paid at the new rates [:-))] Danny
17. Martin, It seems that to confirm your new contract you need to confirm it in your espace client by clicking on 'suite' and then continuing. So it seems you have done so yet. This will involve a new contract with the same terms as those of Free, including the 96 euro fee for 'frais d'activation' which works out in practice like the 'résiliation' fee of SFR and others. With Alice/Free the amount goes down by 3 euros each month so e.g. if you cancel after one year it is 96 - 36 = 60 to pay. If you cancel after two years it will be 96 - 72 = 24 to pay. If you dont want all that and if you decide to cancel, then you can do it via the espace client easily too. In the menu on the left near the top there is an item 'résiliation' or 'formulaire de résiliation' (I forget exactly) and you can easily tick some boxes and print off your cancellation letter. Follow the instructions and make sure you keep a copy for yourself and also send the letter and the box back by AR + AR and keep the registered post slip when you get them for a long time as proof of their having received both - just in case there is any hassle! I did this when I cancelled Alice and it all went very smoothly. No guarantee that will follow of course!! Let me know if want some help in choosing an Orange or other package which may be best for you. Danny
18. Even those without ADSL TV are affected by the TVA change as everyone previously had a reduction in TVA applied due to their ability to watch the WEB TV even though it was pretty useless. Danny
19. read the second post by Busyspider on the first page for starters. Also it seem that you are not alone in not having received any email notification of changes. You are wise not to confirm or tick anything at the moment. Danny
20. it seems strange that this has been sent without your request. If you are in France, I would call 1033 and tell them that you have not and do not want to change your contract. If this relates to the changes to the TVA - all of the ISPs have been affected - then I presume if it is going the same way as it is with Free, you will be migrated automatically to the new offer unless you tell them you do not want to. In this case, your account should be terminated. I think you should have received a previous email telling you about the changes. Plenty to read here http://www.c-alice.com/phpBB2/consequences-des-nouvelles-cgu-2011-pour-les-non-migrants--vt18680.html I will have a read  through and let you know if anything relevant jumps out..... Changing to Orange soon may well work out a better idea in your neck of the woods..... that's another question though. Danny
21. Sounds like the dish needs a small realignment or the LNB needs the correct skew (or twist) to improve the signal quality. http://www.bigdishsat.com/technical.php?sort=fit_twin for an example. Danny
22.
Can't help re your access, but when I used ExpatShield for the first time this week, I ended up having to close several pop-ups offering live sex... [Www]
Probably better than the ones offering dead sex [Www][Www] Danny
23. Whe you install the adblock plus add on, there is an option to use a choice of ready made filters/subscriptions (i.e. lists of sites/ads to block) Pick a popular one and it will block most pop ups or ads. Then you can always right click on any image/ad and choose to block image and you should not see it again. More here - you can choose one and just add it by clickong on subscribe. http://adblockplus.org/en/subscriptions Danny PS When I tried Expat Shield, I had no adverts at all. I think I have the easylist english, if I recall.
