1. SB, I didn`t understand the hand washing at the kitchen sink after car repairing either...one takes the car to the little man for repairs doesn`t one?
2.
As always TU, you answer a perfectly legitimate question with another completely irrelevant question. Why? Was the question too difficult? Why not just leave it to those who may or may not choose to...
you come on here with 3 posts to you name and jump down the throat of the first person to respond .You talk about this person ,TU, as if you have been lurking around, but have obviously not done so well enough ,as TU is a lady poster not a `He` as you refere to later. No other comments on this subject as I have no experience on it.
3. Following the 5 hour interview,I recieved 2 phone messages last week for Mr O(he was away) neither of which I could understand as the person making them was a  monotoned ,bored stiff functionaire and muttered into the phone, I got the general drift of who he was( the phone no was a givaway!!) today Mr O decided, after getting the engaged signal for 2 days , to visit the company as he didn`t want his allocation to be stopped through lack of effort. He met the `tranport manager` in the hope that all these well paid jobs had been taken, only to be sent to the`Medicin de travaile` for a medical. OK why not ...insurance for the job etc. Medical went ok ,except for he is now invited ,free of charge to go for a examen de pulmonary(sp) due to a past chest/breathing infection......still no certain job offer, which is only going to be tempory.  watch this space! Do we take it that most of the other people sat waiting who did`nt look 100% are being examined because they are long term sick? Ps , didn`t he do well, he has grown 2 cms in the past 3 years (last medical) ...no he is not a child he is over 40!!
4. NO , No, No SB,  I meant the bit about `have you got the spanners`,cricky charley don`t you start giving us cooking tips.....My cast Iron stomach has got the gastro as it is!  so it must be a bad one......
5. Sorry,  teresainlanguado, I am orriginally from the north of England ,but that expression is lost on me
6. love `em JoH, and so does Mr O. Now how would the customer feel if the Shop assistants complained about the things they (the customer...are they always right?)left in the trolley? This is as true as I sit here, The trolley lads(you know the ones who wander the car park and fetch the trolleys back to store) in my old store in Chadderton, handed in at Customer Service( not to me mind.....I would have thought it was a wind up!) to be written up in the lost property book ( you know ,where lost brolleys and house keys , the odd tenner etc go) yes I am getting to the punch line!!)  A Vibrator uh how disgusting, where had that been.....and do you know it was never claimed, don`t even think the trolly lad bothered either....he would have if it had been a tenner!
7. Root veg is something I realy miss. I love parsnip and sweed, but havn`t seen any in our area ,only turnip(the small white ones....I am from lancashire)
8. Strangely enough there was a programe last night on french tv showing ballroom dancing, seems to be the `in thing ` at the moment. I always wanted to learn but it is not Mr Os cup of tea, when we first got married he worked with a chap who went ballroom dancing and asked me if I wanted to go with him,I didn`t particularly like the guy and would prefer to dance with someone of my choosing. Where abouts are you? Mrs O
9. Because we had to have a reliable car in the UK and our old faithfull had finaly given up the ghost,we bought a nearly new car only about 12 months befor departure and would have lost far too much money in selling back to a garage .A private sale possibly could have left us without transport, plus the fact that we have a trailor and used this to bring over what we wanted from our Uk home. Mrs O
10. Cabbage ! I love it, but choucrout is a different kettle of fish to me. It is on offer at the moment in Champion for a silly price, about 30 cents a killo I think. I think perhaps its the `dressing` that ruins it for me , I usually add balsamic to my cabbage mmm yummy, bought two white cabbage in Lidl for 50 c each, and both weigh more than 2.5 killo, so we will be on homemade coleslaw, cabbage gratin and roast diner with  yup you guessed it cabbage, may even try to stuff some leaves.
11. It seems very eerie thais morning, it is that quiet after listening to the wind and trees all day yeesterday, lets hope its gone and not the calm before the storm! On TF3 (I think) last night there were some quite horific pictures of property damage and HUGE trees blown over, with the Sapiers pompiers cutting them up......I wonder if they return today to collect them for next years wood stash!
12. Oh Yes Please Pip rob, it is freezing here, well about 6 degrees, which is too cold for me. it has been very windy and has blown my satelite off its ,well degrees and mins(not of the chimney though!)  Plus side being I have watched Bergerac and a circus on french Tv and done loads of boring washing. Have a sea view from the roof terrace and It looks decidedly lumpy today, will watch TF3 around 8pm here to see if there is any change. To look out of the window this afternoon was very deceptive,it could have been a summers day, blue sky and no clouds to be seen. Regards Mrs O
13. It doesn`t matter that you may live in a`backwater`, the detector van still drives around, there was a notice on our local Marie a couple of months ago announcing this......but the funny thing was they stated the day and date!
14. Belinda, your old man will be loosing weight too if you go at the seafood at this rate....you do know what it does for you don`t you ,more exercise through the night! Mrs O
15. Heres a twist on one, Our youngest had her friend to tea, she is learning English in school and asked what the various cutlery items are called, so we did glass, plate, knife ,fork......she gasped and giggled with our youngest and started to whisper...fork is a swear word in french she says whilst showing her fingers! .......try it with a french accent! so that is a french word to I take it.
16. I think you may find that doctors records and hospital records are two different issues. Mr O went to get our daughters and was given them without any problem ,free of charge and with a handshake. These notes obviously have a breakdown of specialist visits and procedures she had undergone etc, but X Rays ,Monitor readouts and graphs are not in those. So next step was to contact the various hospitals and specialists to get further info , I didn`t speak to the various departments ,but basicaly my husband was told that these were the Property of the NHS/United Kingdom,so subsequently the Hospital here has made a request as these involve a growing child.
17. Saw the Meteo last night and they were predicting strong winds, they were right! They started about 8 am and are now really gusty...will be putting the tv on in a bit to keep up to date. Missed the 13.00 hrs buletin but decided to look at wanadoo, it is saying Force 12 for Argeles Plage which is the nearest to me, as an ex sailor that does not bode well!
18. JoH where do you find this S^&* that you post on here, keep em coming ,they make me smile
19. Yes I do agree that more people understand English and have orrigionaly told me they do not know any, but after getting to know them and become familiar they then test their skills on me. One mum at school asks If she can speak to me in English and me respond in french , which we always do.
20. Help! I have just returned home and on checking my phone the tone indicates I have a message. Usually I dial 3000 let the lady do her talking and then press the star button, which then gives out various choices , I press 1 and get my messages.  Usually I said,as it all apears to have changed and am sure that the message says that I havn`t signed up for the message sevice...has something happened and I missed it, there was some leaflets with the phone bill, which I would have read but Mr O threw them away. Please can anyone help ASAP as I would like to access the message, I am expecting an important call. Thanks to those who looked in on this...problem now solved as there seemed to be a fault on the line befor and is working ok now
21. Yes the French do row in public, one of our neighbours a few months ago was having a right ding dong in the street with another,(one male ,one female) when it started to get physical Mr O stepped in to stop the man from slapping the woman(both aged roughly 40) as none of the other bystanders were doing anything but enjoying the row. At this point the mans daughter in her early 20s told my husband that it was ok as the people arguing were brother and sister! This seemed to be acceptable to the audience and we do know that the lady in the row has also been hit by her husband in the past as unfortunately one of our girls was in their house at the time. Still trying to piece together the argument, but know for sure it stemmed from money...
22. This issue was discussed on here quite recently, yes you should be able to get a copy of your records from your GP, hospital ones could become a different matter(ours have now been requested by the specialist here). Translation wasn`t needed as medical terms appear to be similar and most educated french have some grounding in English and what wasn`t understood ,we explained in other terms.
23. I know our girls are not fluent, that takes years of learning , I wouldn`t say I was fluent in English even though I was brought up with the lingo, I still occasionally look up a word that I am not sure of the meaning of. What I have found with our youngest is that she will describe something in french that she has done that day,and can`t find the word in English to translate it ! All I can say is that I wish I had been given the chance to learn a second language so young, first year of senior school is far too late in my opinion.
24. Of course we remember. The girls did too,as the past 2 days in school has been all about the war(s). Ours were invited to lead the procession to the memorial, where the mairie said a very nice speach(there was a bit that I did`nt understand whilst trying to interpret the last bit!) Some beautifull flowers were laid, just a little saddened that more didn`t attend, probably about 40 people from a village of about 500 and ony a handfull were women. Then I (Mr O is away at the moment) was invited to the salle de fete for a degestif, pity none of the men were under 50! Joking apart, it was a very sombre day.
