1. Thanks Araucaria. That's the news I wanted to see.
2. Thinking of plumbing fittings, when did "standardisation" of pipe diameters, threads etc come in? I've got my eye on some rads which have been removed from a 50's (?) apartment and am assuming that I can "bodge" them into a modern system somehow. Am I right?
3. In response to the question about whether customer of indepenant services can change, I think not. My juice comes from the town Regie and I've just used that official site to see if I can get it cheaper. The site doesn't show me any other options!
4. Well, you and I seem to have a difference of opinion on what is amusing. I feel that there was more than a tad of obfuscation in there. I've just had another trawl through the web and am no nearer knowing the best solution. Looking at the kit available, there seems to be no accepted standard for when to use the RJ11 and when the RJ45. (Yes, I am sure the NF is "the" standard, but it doesn't seem to be accepted).
5. I've just notice your tag line refering to searching for previous threads. I guess you mean when I asked something similar some time back. Yes, I did and I decided not to do anything, until I saw this thread and the 3 socket thing in the DIY shed, I wondered whether to take that option. However, I can not get my head round the wiring configuration and a search on the web has not provided me with a diagram.
6. I guess it is the same with most official paperwork, they have to cover absolutely every eventuality and therefore, for the average user there is a lot of cra.... superflous information. If he is able to tell me in plain simple English what I need to do to replace the T with something more reliable (I've tried three over the years and they all seem to make dubious connections) I will be a happy man.
7. I ordered the book, then thought I might get help from here a bit quicker. I'm not sure I will get the whole of the Department of Trade and Industry in my house...... :-) . I don't know what that acronym means so I can't go and get one, I certainly didn't see anything in Castorama that used those letters and nothing seemed to have an RJ45 Test socket attached. The problem is that I am struggling to learn French and technical things like the NF C 15-100 will probably drive me insane.
8. The connexion just says that in "Electricity in your French Home" by Thomas Malcolm it says that in modern homes the T has been replaced by the RJ45. I've now ordered it, but it will take a couple of weeks to arrive. In the mean time if you can assist.... a pair of telephone wires come into the house.... I don't want the T socket.......
9. I'm a tad confused by all this. The Connexion newpaper says that the T socket is being replaced by the RJ45 so I want to get rid of the awful T (as the plug doesn't stay in without the use of sellotape). I guess I put an RJ45 onto the incoming wires, but what happens after that, where does the 3 way prise come into it? (I can't get my head round it's positioning with reference to the adsl filter and the TV bit which I assume just comes from my sat box). OK, I am sure "I" am not supposed to do it.
10. And.... you can create your content by just using "Word" and when it comes to saving it, choose to do so as a (an?) HTML page. That way you don't have to use the template that everyone else uses.
11. Yep, the poor sod is now 6 feet under..... and 2 feet still above ground.
12. I'm a bit concerned that anyone feels it is necessary to go out in a public place with their identity hidden. I'm a bit concerned that the authorities will be fining the women who have been forced into wearing the "mask". I'm a lot concerned about men who want to control the woman in their life in this way. I'm a lot concerned that these men will probably not ever be fined as it would be so difficult to prove that they make the women wear it (No no officer, I chose to wear it.... because it's easier than putting up with his childish tantrums).
13. I am friends with a family where Dad and both sons have this problem. They have learned that Casino (Geant) have a gluten free counter as do the Bio Co-op. They particularly like the Madelines from Casino! I have learned that in the UK they get a lot of their substitute products on prescription, so they do not mind taking it with them to France or when they eat out.
14. I'm prepared to be corrected, but I thought Jerusalem was about Jesus and Joseph of Aramathea (spelling?) making their way to Glastonbury (to hear The Who play, no doubt, I think they were around at the time). So, if that is so, would it not be the Southern Woollen Mills that they are singing about?????
15. If you go on holiday on a Saturday and come back on the "Saturday after next" then you've had fourteen nights (Fo'rt night). However, the holiday impacts the Saturday that you go and the one you come back, so you've had holiday for 15 days.
16. I think I've glanced at that site a couple of times but not been hooked. Can any of you explain why that thread has been closed? I can't see anything unpleasant, inaccurate or worthy of "This correspondance is now closed" about it. What have I missed?
17. Caen was closed yesterday, so BF had to use Le Havre and our return was earlier than expeted. But boy oh boy did they work hard to make the change as smooth as possible. Emails and phone calls to every contact that they had on file for the booking. Then they had lots of staff at Le Havre and the shoe box checking in system worked well. Although it took an age to load as they had to do the vehicle sort on the hoof, they did so cheerily. Hats off to them.
18.
Can't speak for all of them but the SANEF one only charges the fee in the month's in which it is used.
How do they make the charge? I can not make the total of the individual transactions on the web site, equal the amount that they have charged to my barclaycard. Yet I can find reference to a handling fee on the web based facture. (Never looked in this detail before but the last trip needs some costs sharing out)
19. Thanks. I think I might accidentaly spill some glue.
20. I am sure that I read a post saying that something like "Modern installations must have an RJ11 socket for teh phone". Now I can't find it, question 1 is.... Am I going mad? Question 2 is, how mad am I going? Question 3 is, Is the big bulky thing that keeps falling out of the wall, being replaced? Can I put an RJ11 socket in and then wire everything from that in a similar manner? (I'm tempted to glue a french plug to it's socket and connect that to an RJ11 socket from which everything else works without falling out when the neighbours cat f*rts).
21. I had a lot of time for Dick Smith (I think it was Smith) we crossed swords once but by and large I respected what he had to say (Trouble is, being a teacher he wanted to be right all the time but being human, he wasn't, that's why we crossed swords! :-) )
22. Oh well, if the aerial had seen batter days perhaps it was due for replacement. I worked with the analogue switch off in the west of england and was really annoyed by the number of aerial installers who were duping folk into getting new aerials that were not necessary. Hence my intervention.
23. I've not been following the forum for a while, but I was reminded of this tonight. Has there been update? Have any civil actions been successful or has he got away with it?
24. I hate to say it, but I think you have been done. There is no such thing as a "Digital Aerial". There are different aerials depending on what frequency range the transmissions are in (And "all purpose" for people who are close to the transmitter). There are aerials that "focus" the signal if you are a long way from the transmitter. But you do not need a special aerial. If the signal is strong enough you can pick up Digital TV signals on an old coat hanger.
25. I plan to get one of those FLIP cameras that they sell on Amazon for about £140 (or the Kodak equivalent - which has a microphone input). Pocket sized and used by many "BBC Video Nation" producers. Will still use a big one when the need arises but think a pocket sized one is a great asset.
