1. I'm only a holiday home chap but in my chosen area the people are great. I try to speak French and they try to help me, so we get on just fine.
2. Ah, I should have looked here before I posted in the Regional Threads. I've duplicated. It's not the first time there have been major rock falls there.
3. This spot is notorious, it only seems a couple of years ago that the road was closed for months while they put in protection... but it doesn't appear to have been enough! https://www.thelocal.fr/20230828/huge-alpine-rockslide-halts-train-services-between-france-and-italy
4. Oh, don't worry, I'm pretty sure I know both what you said and the message that you were trying to convey.
5. Please re read all your comments and consider whether they could easily be interpreted in a way that you perhaps didn't intend.
6. But you did ask "What's wrong with normal?". I'm just pointing out that as nobody is normal, then not being normal is actually ..... normal.
7. I agree. It's was far safer when an accidental shove of script (or elbow) would close a fader instead of opening it!
8. Yes, that works for me as well. I tend to use the "usual" definition because I have worked in Radio Stations and the equipment was "normalised" to how it was normally needed. But there was always a patch bay where things could be over plugged for when we needed it to be different (not bad... just different).
9. I suspect that there is something about you that is not the usual, typical or the expected state or condition, so there is something about you that is not normal. That does not make you bad or wrong. Surely we need to stop thinking that "not normal" is bad. Surely it depends on what the straight person is going to say (or has said in the past) to determine whether a demonstration is justified? Personally, I think we all need to remember that one person exercising their "rights" (to free speech) may adversly affect another persons rights. I would like us all to think more about other people and try to make this world as nice a place to live as is possible. Sometimes all we have to do is put our brains in gear before we open our mouths..... I guess many folk will think I am woke because of that.... but it is a badge that I wear proudly.
10. Appartently noboby is normal in every aspect of themselves. As normal only means "the usual, typical, or expected state or condition" (it doesn't mean wrong or bad) then surely there is absolutely nothing wrong with being normal and absolutely nothing wrong with not being normal.
11.
I believe it was opas (wife) who said that her husband had been arrested in the UK driving a french lorry......... something along those lines. I cannot remember what happened subsequently, if in fact we were told. JohnM any news on the Turin freight line. I have spoken to friends and they seem to know nothing at all, when in fact I reckon that the line will be very very close one particular friend's son's home.
Hi Idun, yes I had a search yesterday evening and found her name which rang a bell, but I couldn't find the thread. I seem to recall that a night or 2 in the cells were included in the story. There is a lot of access tunnel work going on at St Martin de la Porte (near St Michel de Maurienne) and they are certainly doing major earth works at St Jean de Maurienne where the tunnel goes under (I think they had to realign the motorway slightly to give access to the bit of mountain they want to go into) and extra sidings are going in in La Chambre (presumably because some of the sidings in St Jean will be lost).
12. Somewhere (in the archives) of the forum is a thread featuring a member who fell fowl of the "British person,French car, used in UK" is situation. If I remember correctly, they got stroppy with the police which didn't help their situation. (I think that they got stroppy with the mods as well and were banned from posting.... but don't take my thinks as gospel, it was about 10 years ago)
13. I spent a few days last week looking for my Habitation invoice, I couldn't remember receiving it, but being so near to 15th I assumed that it must be somewhere in the house(UK). I was beginning to panic as I didn't want to be fined for late payment and wondered if there was some method of finding out how much through the impots web site. It arrived on Friday with payment due today....
14.
https://www.google.com/maps/place/Actua+GT+Driving/@45.6927206,5.065061,14z/data=!4m2!3m1!1s0x0:0x9f091b2b8e1b7140?hl=fr That little map shows both. I have just looked at the adjacent road at street view and there doesn't seem to be anything there. Maybe plans to build something and didn't? We have two roads in this region that I pass regularly that don't go any where. In fact I remember my drive to Geneva Airport pre full motor way days and they didn't go anywhere and have a feeling that they still don't.
Sorry, your post came up after I had posted my last one (I didn't refresh the screen when I got in). These things happen. There used to be a bridge to nowhere in Glasgow and on the M4 near Bristol there are slip roads.... but no junction.
