  1. Does it say 'Logged in as Delboy' at the top of the page (above the FAQs) When you are logged in it should say Control Panel|Recent Topics |Active Topics | Popular Topics Control Panel is in bold type. If not, press the 'reply to post' buton and that should make it visible. Bon Chance
  2. When you are logged in- on the opening page right at the bottom on the right is a 'mark all' button
  3. I'm confused Did your French guests mean that its illegal to ask for more than 20% in France ? In which case surely it would apply to all your guests whatever their nationality ? Or do you think they meant only French people ( which seems a little unlikely IMHO, wouldn't that open another can of worms ?) I have never heard of it before but if you don't get replies here why not ask the local tourist office. Good Luck
  4. Make sure you are logged in and then go to the top of the 'front' page (just above where the FAQs are) or press the reply option and look to the left of 'Recent Topics'. Control Panel is in a bolder type. Let me know how you get on, maybe I am not describing it very well !
  5. In the second yellow band down (as I type this page) there is 'Control Panel', that allows you to change your password in 'Registration Details' and there is also a 'Message signature' area where you can add your signature.
  6. I liked it because its sensible and asks valid questions, which might make some one planning a move think ....not too 'fluffy' !!
  7. This months mag has a quiz to 'test' your suitability for a full time move. http://www.livingfrance.com/LVFR/content/article.asp?ArticleID=92 Its part of a bigger article and interestingly mentions that women often find it harder to settle than men !
  8. >>I agree Miki. How long did that agent claim to have been working in France? His accent was even worse than mine. And what sort of person would try and sell a business catering to French people to a family who does not speak French and with no knowledge of retail, even in England? It doesn't sound very responsible, to put it mildly.
  9. Have you looked at http://www.defra.gov.uk/animalh/quarantine/quarantine/regulation/eu_reg.htm ?? It looks like this is alll pretty new and Defra will be updating info. Hope that helps Gay http://www.quimperclub.org/
  10. I have no idea what the norm is however I know I have plants that hold special memories so I understand the sellers desire to take a few things. Why not ask for pictures so you can see what will be going and request cuttings or divisions, depending on the nature of the plant ? Gay http://www.quimperclub.org/
  11. From time to time there have been questions about cleaning old stained toilets, in the past I have suggested wearing rubber gloves and using a pumice stone on limey deposits but this afternoon I tried spirit of salts......excellent results. Just pour into the bowl and round the pan and leave for 6 - 8 hours then flush and brush. Its pretty lethal stuff ( DO NOT GET IT ON YOUR SKIN )and rather fumey, so please be very careful. In case you are wondering we live in a hard water area and lime-scale makes the toilet look dirty. Gay http://www.quimperclub.org/
  12. If you have fostered children over a number of years then I would respectfully suggest that you know it really does take all types to make the world....internet forums certainly attract a diverse range of people with a common interest, in this case France. People being what they are, they have different standards of language, manners and politeness, however if you really feel someone has over stepped the mark you should either complain to the moderators or post your feelings in reply. As you say people may choose to use less moderate language among friends, but there are many regulars here and we ARE friends of a sort,(rather like a group who meet in a bar) we might not always agree just like in *real* life, but on the whole ( OK, there are always a few exceptions) I doubt there is very much malice intended, and I guess most of us also enjoy the company of French people. French bureaucracy comes in for its share of criticism, as does British.....c'est la vie. Why not join in and give it a try....?? Gay http://www.quimperclub.org/
  13. 2hour Micheal Thomas CD on offer in Tescos for 8.97 (if I remember correctly) at present Gay http://www.quimperclub.org/
  14. Great isn't it ? But a note of caution, there are fears that it will make a junction further down, at Winchester, worse . Sorry ! Gay http://www.quimperclub.org/

  17. My friend in Finistere often has a glut of Kiwi too, they are harvested in the autumn and seem to keep well in her unheated garage. We have certainly enjoyed them the following Easter Gay http://www.quimperclub.org/
  18. My system (Windows ME ( I'm happy with it) on ADSL) seemed to be running more slowly than normal, so this morning I have been 'scanning' Spybot and Adaware went fine but AVG detected Startpage which it dealt with and Trojan Horse Downloader. VB.3.AX when I attempt to move these to the 'virus vault' as directed I get a 'Cannot remove ' message - this leaves me with 49 infected files! I have tried clicking 'Remove all infected files' and get the same 'cannot be moved' message - so how do I get rid of it ??? Gay http://www.quimperclub.org/
  19. Have you put it through www.mappy.com ? You could adjust the 'vias' for a comparrison. Gay http://www.quimperclub.org/
  20. This year the Quimper Club (see below) is meeting in Bath. The group (mainly Americans, some French) will be visiting Wells Cathedral, the 16th century home of an English member and Montacute House (Elizabethan). To put these places in context I thought it would be fun to put together a 'Time Line' with important dates from French, American and English History. So what dates, esp from French History, would you be sure to mention ? Gay http://www.quimperclub.org/

  25. Saffron, Are you sure you couldn't do it ? I think even I could give it a go and my DIY skills are poor to say the least. A quick search on google bought up some useful advice. Gay http://www.quimperclub.org/
